  1. Saw all of the pre- Court Jester movies. The only later efforts I remember seeing and liking were Me and the Colonel and Pinocchio. He was quite a talent. They don't make 'em like that any more. Later
  2. There is nothing better than a bad made-for-tv Sci-Fi channel movie*. And the original Sharknado was one of the most painfully best. I can hardly wait. Later *= I think all of them star Michael Madsen.
  3. NEW YORK -- Zach Lutz is headed to Japan to play for the Rakuten Eagles, a sources told ESPNNewYork.com. The 28-year-old third baseman was hitting .291 with seven homers and 37 RBIs in 227 at-bats with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. He appeared in 22 games for the Mets in 2012 and '13, producing a combined .226 average and two RBIs in 31 at-bats. Have fun kid. You'll always be welcome to stop in for dinner next time you're in town. Best of luck. Later
  4. My newest kid (Montero had to leave my house when he made the majors this year) is catcher Kevin Plawecki. The ex-Purdue Boilermaker hitting to the tune of a .899 OBP at Binghamton. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=C&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=608700 He was drafted with a supplemental pick 2 years ago, and is considered a good hitter, so-so defender. Kid, I hope we'll be seeing you with the big club this year. Later
  5. Welcome to the bigs, kid. Now, out of the house. You're on your own now. Gotta' make room in the pipeline for another prospect. Later
  6. Biblical remake. Or is it a re-write? Good cast. Good special effects. And no animals were harmed in the making of this film. How did you like it? Please note, the poll is in inverse order - bad to good. Later

  9. Let's all give a standing round of applause to minor league veteran Alan Dykstra. He's finally in AAA. He started at 1B tonight and is currently 1-2 with 2 RBI. Good for him. Later
  10. This isn't a case of Sherman Lollar or Gus Triandos not making the majors because Yogi Berra was blocking them. So far, the only thing blocking Maron's progress is Maron. Later
  11. Thanks for pics of all my kids. Later
  12. Regarding the show last night: The freaking show was going on its (seemingly) 25th hour when Ellen decided to order in pizza and waste even more time. (Why couldn't they have had Bette Middler sing while they were paying homage to the dearly departed, not after?) The poduim partner of Anna Kendrick was the Academy's way of telling Anna, "You're not a big star-yet". I wonder, if Gravity had been nominated for, and won, the Oscar for costume design, would they have awarded it to NASA? Later
  13. Montero will start the first exhibition game later this week. Later

She thought it was excellent, but there was a part that was kind of scary for him, so she rated it 4 1/2 stars How young? (Ours is not quite 4, and is GENERALLY good at handling dramatic/scary moments in kids' movies, but...) Almost 3. And he doesn't get scared by much. He likes dinosaurs. Later

  17. The 2014 Baseball Almanac just came out, and BA says Montero was the organization's minor league player of the year. Don't know if that is their take, or if this the official decision. Later
  18. Abel Gance's Napoleon - original version ran about seven hours. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napol%C3%A9on_(1927_film) This 1927 classic has been restored and re-cut many times. I saw it in 1965. Later
  19. Since this has been expanded to after-kid bad movie experiences, here's mine. My high school buddy and I skipped school to see Psycho on 42nd street (when they used to have first run movies there). During the tense scene where the detective is climbing the stairs, a woman starts yelling, "Masher! Masher! Masher! He tried to put his hand on my leg!" The movie stopped, the lights went on. And we saw what looked like an 80 year old lady bashing a 90 year old man over the head with her umbrella. The ushers came down the aisle and dragged him away. The lights dimmed (many in the audience were still laughing) and the movie resumed. But the mood, and the tension, weren't the same. Later
  20. 1) Winchester '73 2) They ran out of ice cream. Later
  21. Anyone who has been checking their TV listings this past holiday season has seen this musical comedy appear frequently, probably more than Bing Crosby musicals. Its about an all female acapella group (the Belles) trying to wrest the "Intercollegiate Acapella Championship" away from the all male group (The Troublemakers) from their college. There are funny moments between, and even during, the musical numbers. And I know several people (adults) who have seen the movie more than once. How do you score it? Later
  22. Sorry: New York MetsVerified account ‏ @ Mets # Mets add LHP Steven Matz & RHPs Jeff Walters, Jacob deGrom and Erik Goeddel to their 40-man roster. Mets 40-man roster is at 40. Later
  23. TransMonk wrote: I don't know that I have seen a 3D movie in a theater since I was about 8 (Creature From The Black Lagoon, 1954)... What? You missed House of Wax with Vincent Price? I didn't like Titanic either. Told wifey that I would see if if it would have a different ending from the other film versions of the story I had seen. Didn't work. She dragged me to see it and didn't understand why I didn't like it (for all the reasons mentioned in this thread). Reading this thread makes me want to see Gravity. Later
  24. I agree its an issue. But I prefer to take the glass half full approach that the Biogenesis usage was in the past and that he did not fail a drug test while he was putting up those numbers this year. Time will tell. Later
  25. Not only has it not gone unsaid, but you just said it twice. And in other threads as well. Later
