  1. Just heard a replay of a Jeter interview after yesterday's game (on the Seth Everet Show on ESPN Radio). When asked about A-Rod homer, Jeter said (I paraphrase) " He has 600 homers and he's 35 years old. He'll be playing for another 15 years." Seth mentioned Jeter was taking a shot at the remaining 15 years on A-Rod's contract as well as the fact that Jeter will be looking for a long term deal from the Yankees after this season. What a little bitch. He couldn't even offer his teammate a sincere congratulation for a milestone feat. Later

  3. Nope. BTW, I have to confess that I didn't know this until last week, but saw the answer in one of those "100 Things for Mets Fans" books that I scanned at Borders. It was otherwise unworthy for putchase. Later
  4. Nope, and, nope. Later
  5. Edgy DC wrote: Good guess. I'll go with Yogi Berra. Ben got the question. I meant most WS hits while wearing a Mets uniform. However he got the wrong answer. No cigar. Later
  6. Since I got that right, here's my question: Which Met has the most World Series hits? Later
  7. "Zippity" Duda is the only righthanded power hitting prospect for the Mets playing at a higher level than A ball. That may be to his advantage when he is compared to the others (Kirk, Ratliff, Martinez, Lutz, et. al.) I'm not sure whether Evans is part of that group since he has already played in the majors. Later
  8. Alex Cora. If you count guys on the DL, Sean Green. Later
  9. My tall, thin, unpronouncably-named kid is currently pitching in the Gulf Coast Rookie League: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=villas001edi Decent ERA, not as many strikeouts as i would like. Later
  10. I voted the usual suspects (mentioned in posts above) plus the wilpons. I want to see Mikhail Prokhorov buy the team. Later
  11. That reminds me. I've got to look for my Dick Stuart Bobblehands doll. Later
  12. Very good KTE. But, how can any KTE, especially one with such an historical perspective, about the Braves be complete without at least one shot across Chipper's bow? A line such as "that motha' Chipper Jones is still there" would have been sufficient. Later
  13. The debacle on Mets HOF induction day showed that just because they bring back popular figures from 1986, it doesn't guarantee success. We liked the 'tude of that team, and Backman was a prime example. But I'm not sure how being a member of that team translates to the players on the current squad. I'd prefer to look at Wally's managing style, situational moves and decisions. In a game last week, he had a high draft choice, who is being looked on as a future power hitter (a catcher, his name escapes me) bunt in the third inning. This is the kind of stuff that Jerry has been doing all year. Of course, later in the same game, the kid hit his first professional home run. So maybe Wally used it as motivation. If so, maybe there is something there that shows how well he knows his players and can motivate them. In any event, IMO he is certainly on the list of future candidates. Later
  14. I guess he learned the dive from watching too much soccer. I can't remember that kind of thing happening here. The closest thing is when a batter takes an inside pitch that may have hit the handle of the bat and then tries to go to first, pretending he was hit by the pitch. Teh umps usually will getthat one right. Later
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Really? Are you really that angry? Not really. I felt the muse, chanelling all the people (and hosts) talking about the lack of a deal on WFAN. (And it will probably continue tomorrow as the weekday hosts resume their tedia.) Personally, I'm happy that Omar didn't mortgage the future for a brand name band-aid. But there was a lot of talk a few days ago about a Peresz + Castillo deal for Carlos Zambrano. Omar even discussed the possibility in a post-deadline interview. I would have been OK if he had pulled that off. Later
  16. The rest of the season is going to be a war. And this is the Antebellum: Views of future victories, Scattered all around the floor. Reaching for the phone but, he can't do it any more. And I wonder if itll ever cross his mind. But hes runnin out of time. It's a quarter after one, Omar didnt get it done and Im steaming now. The Mets wont play this Fall, Omar dropped the ball, and Im steaming now. Not sure if they can compete without that trade they needed now. Keep looking at the done deals, Wishing there was just one more. Omar might complete one, just like he has done before. And I wonder if it ever crossed his mind. It used to happen all the time. It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk, And I need one now. The Mets wont play this Fall, Omar dropped the ball, and Im steaming now. Not sure if they can compete without that trade they needed now. It's a quarter after one, Omar didnt get it done, and Im steaming now. The Mets wont play this Fall, Omar dropped the ball, and Im steaming now. Not sure if they can compete without that trade they needed now. They just need it now. They just need it now. Yes I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all. Later
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yes, they released Jose Reyes. I was being serious. Didn't the Mets once lose a player because of little known roster move technicalities? (IIRC it was the proper sequence for making a roster move - purely procedural) It may have been one of the Chavez clan. It doesn't hurt to check with MLB before you do something like this. Later
  18. I asked this question when his contract was mentioned earlier this week. Don't recall if there was an answer. Does his signing, for one day, cause anyone to be bumped off the 40 man roster? Later
  19. TheOldMole wrote: What did Mookie say? "Be my little baby"? OK, now that we've temporarily gone retro, does anyone else remember that Archie Bunker was a Mets fan? The Mets are referenced in quite a few AITF episodes: (1) The one where Archie first meets Henry Jefferson (who faked being George Jefferson) because George Jefferson skipped out on the dinner gathering (he went to the Mets game instead). (2) Archie asks Mike The Liberal what he'll say about 'equality' when Mike's Mets are being managed by a woman. Gloria, Irene Lorenzo, and Edith all say hallelujiah, and Mike says "Let me think about that for a while." Archie then goes into a classic rant about 'equality.' (3) The 1st Meeting between Archie and Mike has the ice broken by talking about the Mets. We now return you to 2010. Later

  23. The Phillies already have $135+ Million locked up for next year: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tSSu2Qy8G9pTSsguHAbeu-A&output=html You know what? Nobody seems to mind that they will be adding Oswalt's salary. My question is, will they also offer Werth a contract extension? Later
  24. Ceetar wrote: Steve Popper notes here that they will (http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/amazinstories/gooden_comes_home/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter) sign a pitch on Saturday before the deadline. the catch is that it's a one-day contract to a 45 year old. He will be on the field for Sunday though. If it is an official major league contract, even if its for one day, will they have to cut someone from the major leage 40 man roster to "make room"for him?
