  2. When I first saw him pitch, I thought his arm motion wasn't as fluid as it should be for someone who throws as hard as he does. It is a "short arm" motion (down, Fman, down!) that puts stress on the elbow. His motion reminded me of a Pitcher the Mets got from KC (Appier ?) who threw the same way, and writers used to say he was an arm injury waiting to happen. Later

  4. Ask him about the brown spot of dead grass in left field in RFK stadium where he used to stand. Then, make him feel better. Ask him about the blue painted seats in the upper deck of RFK which mark where two of his longest home runs landed. Does he remember the pitchers? The pitches? Later

I don't recognize the song from that parody. Link, please, to the real one. Later
  6. Oops, just checked. I confused Duda with Lutz. Duda is the lefty batter, Lutz is the righty. He has played fewer than 10 games in right field in his minor league career, but plenty in left. Let's give the kid a shot. Later
  7. is moving on to become head of the NHL Players' Association. http://www.nesn.com/2010/08/report-donald-fehr-agrees-to-become-head-of-nhl-players-association.html I'm thinking it can't be about creating new jobs. NHL teams already have designated hitters. Later
  8. Last night: 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 0 HR, 10-6 GB-FB, his AA ERA is now 1.32. It was a 7 inning complete game (second game of a double header). Later
  9. Speaking of variations, an appropriate title of this thread to describe Jerry might be the title of the old song "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". Later
  10. Full of "whats" and totally barren on "hows". It would be nice to see at least one reporter (I hope it's Waldstein) write a real plan on how they would go about fixing the problems they identify. Its one thing to talk about the heavy contracts of Perez and Castillo. Don't any of them have "resources" who might tell them which other teams might want them, and for what/ who? Instead of listing the candidates for GM, who would they recommend? Why? (The closest I've seen is some writers mentioning that Towers built a contender with limited financial resources. Would he be the best choice in terms of the overall responsibilities of a GM?) Rubin "wanted to be a GM" according to Minaya. OK, Sparky, tell us what you'd do. Later
  11. Here's a scoop for ya', Heyman. I'm from Bayside (went to Bayside High) and absolutely nobody has asked me to become the GM of the Mets - yet. Later
  12. Longtime NL umpire Satch Davidson dies at 75 By BEN WALKER, AP Baseball Writer Longtime National League umpire Satch Davidson has died at 75. Davidsons family says he died Saturday at his home in Houston. The family did not give a cause of death. Davidson was the home plate umpire for two of the most famous home runs in baseball history. He had a first-hand look when Hank Aaron hit his 715th homer in 1974 to break Babe Ruths record. And he was behind the plate in 1975 when Carlton Fisks shot won Game 6 of the World Series. Davidson was an NL umpire from 1969 through 1984. RIP, Satch Later
  13. 77 % Vic, I appreciated your comments, especially about including the chronological edition of GF I and II. As for your comment about the new things in Citizen Kane, I recall learning in films class that it was the first time that the ceiling of a room had been shown in a movie. And, I would have included his Touch of Evil on the list. But because I haven't seen all of them, I don't know which I would have bumped to make room for it. OK, yes I do. Sound of Music. Later
  14. Three years ago, Tom Glavine and Paul Lo Duca distributed to their New York Mets teammates bright orange T-shirts bearing a picture of a clown and the slogan, "There Ain't A Big Top Big Enough For This Circus." That was the shocker for me. I don't recall reading anything about that. It should be interesting to see Part II, because Rubin will be telling us what needs to be done to fix the situation. Now we'll get to see the kind of GM he wanted to be. Later
  15. Nice career, Lou. I remember you as being a very loud Yankee manager. Have a nice retirement. But right now I'm more concerned that the Mets offense looks like it retired before today's game. Later
  16. Some writers at other papers who can't give Omar any credit probably wouldn't like that article. The organization did a really good job in that draft. Later

  22. Bonus tidbit, I assume she has giant areolas like teacup saucers. You didn't find out? Are you trying to tarnish your reputation? Literally laughed out loud. Later
  23. Looks like he will finally get to answer in court. About time. Honestly, I preferred baseball in the old days, when pitchers doctored the baseballs instead of themselves. Later
