  1. "I can't be here anymore," the second baseman told The Post before last night's series opener against the Phillies at Citi Field. "I know I'm not going to be here next year." Now, if he can predict the team willing to take him, it would make Omar's job a heck of a lot easier. Later
  2. Do we really feel bad for a girl that dates a dude who wears hit hat like a schmuck? Date a loser like that and you can't be surprised when he jumps out of the way and allows you to get nailed by a baseball. He handled that ball like the guys who played infield on the '62 Mets. Uh, yeah, hot. Later
  3. All he could find out was that is an "undisclosed injury, and he is listed day-to-day". Later
  4. He was pulled from the game after GIDP. I hope he didn't pull a hammy trying to beat it out. I asked my guy at Mets Inside Pitch what happened and he hasn't found out yet. If I find out before I have to leave for work, I'll let you know. Later

Even Ed Bouchee got more chances to play in the majors (scroll down to 1958): http://www.meetup.com/phillies-7/messages/boards/thread/2759318?thread=2759318 Later
  6. Ratliff is hitting .329 with 14 home runs and a .977 OPS in Double-A (in 52 games) in his second full season in the system. This is a fourth round pick showing his wears. He's giving the Mets another value bat at the upper levels. You've got to like that. Later

Did anyone even know they had a jailhouse at CitiField before this? In one "King of Queens" episode, they said there was one at Shea. They could be the first team to have their closer make the long walk from his jail cell to the mound!... That is assuming he gets one phone call a day and its not used up by the 9th inning. Later

But if they give the job to another minority perosn, do they have to interview anyone else? Or Can they hire, say, an Alex Cora without actually interviewing him? Later

If it had been his mother-in-law, I could understand it. Later
  10. Misch made the IL All-Star team this year. His overall record has been good, including his last start. But a few of his starts before that were bad-Pelfreyesque. It will be interesting to see if he is Misch-matched against major league hitters this time around. Later

  12. Frayed Knot wrote: That's the full quote which you probably won't get on BB2N or on your late local news. For some reason the Cards took offense to that which started a mini-brawl in the bottom of the first before the first Cincy batter - not coincidently Brandon Phillips - even got a pitch. Did anyone on the Cards get bitch-slapped? Later
  13. From Baseball Prospectus: "Theres no reason for me to get real excited about it because the chance of more than one of them making a major impact by the time my contract is up is pretty slim." Royals starter Zack Greinke on the young players acquired before the deadline by Royals general manager Dayton Moore. 14. Mets fans have sensed the Evil Empiricism of the Yankees. Later
  15. He's now up with Buffalo, and hitting .333. I listened to the wrap up/ highlights of the Buffalo game last night. Kirk's last RBI was a bases loaded walk. The AB before that, he hit a ball off the right field wall and got to second. It wasn't until I saw the box score this morning that I noticed that he was awarded a single. I guess the official scorer felt it made it to second on the throw home. That's what happens when you're on the road. You hit the ball off the freakin' wall and make it to second, it's a DOUBLE. Yer kid wuz robbed, FK, robbed! Later

Edgy DC wrote: Well, the problem is that "what you can get for them" clause. Maybef I can get Albert Pujols for Jose Reyes, he goes. If I can only get Brian Schneider, then not so fast. Key to the strategy is that if you don't like what has been offered, you can negotiate. That's why I mentioned recallable waivers. Its not like you will lose the players for nothing. Of course, an oft mentioned baseball phrase is "no players are untouchable" if the deal is right. That said, who would you protect/keep? Later

metirish wrote: How many hundreds of players are in the entire org? Maybe 250-300. I worded it that way so as to include some prominent minor leaguers we've been talking about in the prospect forum, and who are not currently on the 40 man major league roster. Later
  18. When Bill Veeck bought the St. Louis Browns, he realized they were terrible. So he put the entire team on recallable waivers, hoping to pull them back and work out deals for those who were claimed. No one player was claimed by another major league team. So, I'm asking, channel Bill Veeck for a moment. You just bought the Mets. You feel there's something deeply wrong with the makeup of the current team. You tell your new GM to find out if any of your players would interest another team. But you tell him that he can only keep 10 players from the entire organization and see what he could get for the rest of them. Which 10 players would you keep? Later
  19. I wouldn't say personality, but I can say physique. The inside chest protectors allowed them to bend their fat asses down to get their eyes in line with the "top of the zone". Even when that top was lowered, they couldn't get down far enough to do that with the outside protectors. So, a high strike was subject to their personal interpretation. But with some of them, its still a magical mystery tour. Later

  21. I remember when they signed him, and wondering if he would be as weird looking as his brither. And the relief when I saw that he wasn't. Later
  22. Lutz now has 15 HRs in 155 ABs at AA. Later
  23. Looking at that list above reminded me of a gamecast I heard about a week ago. IIRC it was the ESPN radio game of the week. The guys in the booth (couldn't recognize the voices) mentioned Braves sluggers in the past, going back to the 60's. They talked about it for about 5 minutes and nobody mentioned Eddie Matthews. Shame. He was goooooooood. Later
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Those are some amazing bonus clauses. Yesterday's homer was worth as much as Steve Austin! That's why he listened when he heard someone say "We can make you stronger". Later
