  1. Along with the new uniform announcement was a list of 50th anniversary promotions. Banner Day will be back. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111116&content_id=25983192&vkey=pr_nym&c_id=nym Yayyy! Share your thoughts and memories. Later
  2. The full announcement. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111116&content_id=25983192&vkey=pr_nym&c_id=nym They're going retro. But the best news to me is, Banner Day is Back!!!! YAYYYYYY!! Later
  3. Mike O'Connor signed by the MFYs. http://www.metsblog.com/2011/11/16/yankees-sign-mike-oconnor/ Later

  5. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Only, he would have been wearing 49 then. Stephenson didn't wear 12 until 1966. Oops. You're right. Well, the image is still etched in my mind. But dammit, the uniform number is blurry after all these years. Never mind. But Joe Ginsberg wore #12, didn't he? Later
  6. The image of John Stephenson striking out for the final out of Jim Bunning's perfect game is firmly etched in my mind. Later
  7. According to ESPN radio, Jason Pridie signed with the A's. No terms mentioned. Later
  8. Holy Gears and Sprockets, Batman! Have we all mised this? While the baseball world has for years been trying to come up with a fair measure for "clutch", it appears m.e.t.b.o.t has come up with a way to quantify the "anti-clutch". I can see it all now. Instead of just saying a player is a "gagging motherfucker", we will now be able to say how the player ranks on m.e.t.b.o.t's scale of suckitude. Get an oil change and a lube, you mechanical marvel, and send the bill to SABR. You've earned it. Later
  9. IIRC, there used to be a rule that required a pitcher to throw the ball within ___ (20?) seconds if the bases were empty, or the ump could call an automatic "ball". Charley Finley had a clock installed on the scoreboard to time it, and MLB made him take it down. As for today, there must be stats about length of games for both the AL and the NL. If so, I'm guessing AL games take longer. And if I'm right, I blame the DH. If I'm wrong, Vic's statement about the situational pitching changes is probably correct. Anyhow, I blame the DH for everything that's wrong with the world. My solution? Get rid of the DH. Later

  11. Don't you have to release a player and expose him to waivers in order to remove him from the 40 man roster? If not, what is the process? The article says he has been removed from the 40 man, so your roster should not have him on it. I was providing you the information so you could update it. Later
  12. Pridie released and removed from 40 man roster: (you have to scroll down to find it) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Later

Seriously, that's terrible. Hope he is released unharmed. Later

You're asked to bring in your own fruit, ah, perhaps even something handheld. Maybe that's an apple, ah for some that might be a banana. Alright, let's just keep it rollin, rollin, rollin. Page 79, um, unfortunately I'm called upon to review the dry erase board rules. If you took a vote of WFAN callers, they would say the Wilpons should continue to eat cantaloupe. Later
  15. That scene was put in the video specifically to drive away any Vegan baseball scouts. Later
  16. Ceetar wrote: Edgy DC wrote: Screamers. Waddayagonnado? Trade them to the Yankees for a CrazyTradeProposer to be named later. That reminds me, we haven't had a 2011- 2012 Mets WATP thread yet. The "Bay for ..." thread never gained momentum. Anyone want to start one? Or rename that one? Later
  17. Back to the large one. Last week, Mike was actually saying good things about Jose Reyes. Very good things. Then I realized that this was the day after Jose became a free agant and wasn't a Met. I wanted to post it then, but my power was still out, I had no computer access, and had other things to worry about until the power came back on. Later
  18. smg58 wrote: Given that Aroldis Chapman is still more hype than results, and the Blue Jays invested substantially in a Cuban shortstop who may or may not make the majors at all, I'd let somebody else do the buying. I still remember when the Mets passed on obtaining Luis Tiant for $25,000. (He was available in that year's equivalent of the Rule V draft) There are Cuban players, and then there are Cuban players. A competent scouting organization should be able to determine which ones are worth the investment. Later
  19. A guy at work told me that Jon Heyman just reported that the Mets will tender Pagan. Not sure whether it was twitted, tweeted or (since it was Heyman) twatted. Can anyone provide a link or confirmation? Later
  20. I'll stay with the classics: Draw and quarter. Then tar and feather the pieces. OE: That sounds too extreme. Howz about: Lock him in a warm, humid room and pipe in a constant loop of Tiny Tim singing "Tiptoe Through the Tulips". It will turn him into a mindless bowl of babbling silly putty. Of course, it would be hard to tell the difference. Later
  21. I was invited here by someone who doesn't post here any more. On the other board (and, before you ask me again, it was NOT whatever MOFO was) where we "met", his screen name was Ghost of Throneberry. I think here it may have been Piggy's Tomatoes, but I'm not sure. Later
  22. We all have to remember what an emotional roller-coaster it means to be a Mets fan. That tradition tells us two things will happen: 1) The Mets will re-sign Reyes. 2) The very next day, MLB will put his thyroid medication on the banned substances list. Later
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: NYM Carlton Willey makes history (sort of) in the top of the 8th of this game It was youngest brother Jesus's ML debut and since the Mets were (quite naturally in 1963) kicking ass (OK, it was 3-0 at the time) the Giant's mgr decided to go to some PHers and make the Alous the first trio of brothers to bat in the same half-inning. Willey retired them all. I was at the game, sitting down the right field line in the Polo Grounds upper deck. The fans kept yelling "Hey, Alou! Which Alou are YOU?" Later

  25. Who says you need an extra hitter in the lineup to play good, exciting baseball? Fuck the DH and everyone who likes it. Well done, National League representative! You made us proud. Later
