  2. Frayed Knot wrote: But the big news is that Jayson Werth rolled over on his wrist while trying for a sliding catch and looks like he hurt it bad. Looked a lot like the play where H. Matsui did the same thing a couple years back when he was still with the Yanx. He wound up out for the season. Reports on Yahoo sports this morning say the wrist is broken. Later
  3. At least the (Yank) hacks haven't written that its because of that superior AL pitching... yet. Later
  4. Tomorrow the Asps are starting a kid lefty up from AA. Any day now teams will be digging up recently deceased lefthanders to start them against the Mets. Later
  5. Great KTE. enjoyed it. Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Especially from those raised in the Mike Francesa school of critical thinking, Which he loves to summarize in one brief prrase "I told ya' so". Later
  7. If Joe Torre dies in the next few days, will it mean that he really did have a pact with the Devil? Later
  8. Don't know if there's a thread for the new Clemens trial, but ... Lying fuckers: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/andy-pettitte-helps-roger-clemens-backpedals-streroids-case.html Both of them. Later

  11. metsmarathon wrote: yankee fans were raging assholes before the housing house of cards tumbled to the ground. That's funny, because the most virulent Yankee fan in my office calls people from the State in which the Red Sox play "Massholes". I see a pot/kettle thingie going there. Later
  12. They're now 21-4. Later
  13. KTE: The Houston Colt .45s/Astros Cool former ballparks: Mets: Shea, Astros: Astrodome, Advantage METS Nice KTE. But this one was not always true. I remember when it seemed like they could mess with the air conditioning at the 'Dome to blow their fly balls over the fence. And THAT was an advantage. Later
  14. Fman99 wrote: See what the designated hitter does to people? This. And if it remains unchecked, it will mean the end of civilization as we know it. Later
  15. I liked Moose. He was a typical first baseman of his era - a big slow guy who would get about .275-25-80 every year. Later
  16. Edgy DC wrote: We don't have results for tonight yet. That's why I said "so far". I still have hope. Later
  17. Moyer was my boyhood idol. Funny stuff. But if the results are anything like tonight (so far), you ain't writin' any more KTEs. Later
  18. metirish wrote: Ask them if they happened to see the Ted Williams exhibit at Fenway, it's supposed to be a must see. That's thinking too far a head for me: http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-201_162-533849.html Seriously, I will. I saw Ted play. Didn't know about the exhibit. Thanks for the idea. Later Edit - was typing this when Ben posted his comment.
  19. Flores has been en fuego. He's now playing third base and is hitting .323/.355/.523 Later
  20. Dear Abby, This Sunday will be my grandson's (first) birthday party. Friends of his dad, from where he works, will be there. They are Red Sox fans. Virulent Red Sox fans. They just were at the 100th anniversary game at Fenway Park, because that's where he proposed to her. What should I do? Should I: Remind them about 1986? Kid them about Bill Buckner? Talk about Bobby Valentine? Something else? If so, what? Later
  21. Edgy DC wrote: Cleon Jones went from A-ball to a brief taste of the bigs in 1963 before bouncing back to AAA in 1964. Leapfrog! IIRC that was because of a crazy "first year player" rule of the time. There was no draft, so you could sign as many players as you wanted, but could only option one to the minors, the others you had to add to the major league roster for at least one year or lose them. (I don't recall the mechanism for that.) I believe Cleon was the guy they added and Kevin Collins(?) was the guy they optioned. Maybe I have them switched. It was an administrative clusterfuck and they changed the rules shortly thereafter. Later
  22. Welcome to the bigs, kid. Once you get that major league meal money, I'm not feeding you any more. Out of the house ya' go. Later
  23. I voted Gardenhire. First one who came to mind. Later
  24. He could hit enough to be a regular. A hit about his infielding is that they've been playing him in centerfield. Later
  25. TransMonk wrote: They shoulda just DFA'd Batista. That may be coming, but maybe not too soon. DJ Carasco started tonight in A ball. He went one inning. Don't know if that was because of a weather delay or they wanted him to get his inning in before any inclement weather would cancel a relief appearance. Later
