  2. Never seen a more descriptive description than a "righthanded Thole". Later
  3. There have been rumors for years that the Mets wanted to get him. The fans too, because he has shown power in the past. Until today, I always thought he was a lefty batter. Sometimes you get what you wish for. Later
  4. Edgy DC wrote: Fartinez called back up by Astros. He's 2 for 13 in his 1st four games since being recalled. Later

  6. The railroad is a big part of the history of Scranton. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steamtown_National_Historic_Site What used to be the headquarters of the railroad was converted to a hotel. (It was a Hilton the last time I was there.) I spent a lot of time in Scranton on business but it was over 20 years ago. The two things I remember most (other than the museum/hotel) were: 1) A restaurant downtown near the U of Scranton that had over 100 beers on the menu. They were pictured around the placemat that they gave you while you waited at the bar for a table in what was one of the top-100 rated fish restaurants in the country. You circled the one you wanted and they brought it to you in the bottle that many folks kept for a souvenir. 2) The rusting cars that covered the hills on both sides of the river, starting just outside of town and seemingly extending for miles. It was quite of sight. Anyhow, if they pick the railroad name, it woukd be very appropriate. Later
  7. Rafael Montero was placed on the St. Lucie Mets disabled list because hes been shut down after hitting his innings limit. Montero, 21, has thrown 122 innings this year between Savannah and St. Lucie, after throwing 71 innings last year. Montero goes out on top after hurling 7.2 no-hit innings against Palm Beach in his final start of the season. Later

  9. Edgy DC wrote: Yeah, congratulations, as you gave that part of his life more coverage than just about anybody. What I couldn't get is how he could put enough into it to become such an elite champ at such a boutique sport and just walk away from it. I can understand it. Something similar happened to me. I think I have mentioned it before. Later
  10. I wonder how many times a player has finished a single short of the cycle? The triple's the tough one. Later
  11. TransMonk wrote: Although, ninth inning leads are not necessarily a Mets specialty. R A stays in to bunt. They must have heard you and he'll be pitching the ninth. Later
  12. Makes sense that Toronto would want to have their AAA team in Buffalo. Its about a $20 cab ride (depending on the current rate of exchange). But I hope if that happens, the Mets will find a AAA city closer than OKC. Later
  13. I hope Dickey has the sense to pitch around Stanton. LGM. Later
  14. Fman99 wrote: G-Fafif wrote: Rob Johnson has a swollen hand. Again, probably an Fman joke in there somewhere, but I'm not sure how, exactly. So, you're saying his hand was, uh, engorged? Look up a few posts. Metfairy suggests it was engorged while it was, uh, engaged. Later
  15. My new kid, Rafael Montero will race Tapia to the majors. I betcha he'll be on many prospect lists next year. Later
  16. Now that my kid Lutz reached the majors earlier this year, there's room for this skinny pitcher from the Dominican Republic at my dinner table. He's not on anyone's pre or mid season lists, so he needs a home. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=606160 Later
  17. Rays, because they have good luck against the MFYs. ChiSox, because a longtime friend roots for them. Rangers, because they would be outmanaged again in a World Series, and lose to an NL team. Pirates, the team I rooted for when my first team moved West. And that's why ... I can't root for any teams in the NL West, so none of the would be my "backup". Later
  18. Memo to Mets pitchers: Pitch around Reyes and Stanton. Memo to Gwreck: Excellent job. Later
  19. Thanks for the pics, JCL. Later
  20. They sure have had a lot of different uni designs. Nice gesture toward the kids. But this would have been a lot more interesting if they had given their local little leaguers uniforms of other teams, not their own. But I like the idea of a PCL jersey in th emix. Later
  21. Since that one got answered, I have another one. I read that Tom Seaver hit a home run against the Mets after he got traded away. Who was the pitcher he hit it off? (I don't know the answer) Later
  22. A year or so ago, a friend who is a VP at NBC News told me this is the last year of the NBC contract. She said they will party hardy on closing night. I'm not sure if a new one has been signed yet. Later
  23. Until you added Spahn, I was thinking pitchers who were acquired twice by the Mets. Later
  24. I read a few weeks ago (forget where, Yahoo Sports?) that there would have to be serious negotiations with the MLBPA to have them allow their players to participate. The earliest it can be added would be 2020, so there's plenty of time to get the talks going and reach an agreement. Later
