  1. The Jays have a 23 year old righthanded hitting outfielder named Moises Sierra at AAA. Seems to be ready for at least a shot at the majors. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=sierra001moi Maybe the Mets can sweeten the pot a bit and get the Jays to add him to the Dickey deal. Later
  2. Eddie Coleman told Steve Somers that the deal might not be completed until tomorrow (Sunday) - a lot of moving pieces. Ed said he spoke to Thole and Josh said he has not been told about the deal (as in, he might be included). Later
  3. As a right handed hitting outfielder, he does fill a platoon need as the current roster is constituted. As I said, he had injuries during the year. He was flirting with .300 most of the year, then when he came back from a late season injury, his average took a 10-15 point drop. He has played all three outfield positions including substantial time in center. There, he would be the occasional righty when Kirk is sat down against a lefty starter. Barring a trade, he is the only righty hitting outfield prospect in the organization who has played at AA or above. So he has a shot. Later
  4. HYC - Hyperbolic Yankee Clutchness He got one hit with men in scoring position in seventeen post season at bats. But it drove in the key ninth run in that exciting 11-2 win. Swisher's HYC percentage of .0588 is off the charts. Later
  5. Hey, I just got the idea for a new game. Drop a Scrabble set, then close your eyes and pick up three tiles. Then you have to make up a baseball related acronym out of those letters. Later
  6. He had nagging injuries during the year, but still did ok in 2012: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lagare001jua If he gets off to a hot start, I'm hoping he could find his way to the Mets as a platoon player this year. Later
  7. WFAN reporting that Ichiro re-signs with the MFYs. They're not sure if for one year or two. Pretty sure he'll be ranked above Hector "What a Pair of Hands" Lopez on their all-time list of living left fielders. Later

  11. Then everyone sings: Sandy Baby Sandy Baby, slip a catcher under the tree, For me. been an awful good fan, Sandy baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight. Sandy baby, a reliable clutch hitter too, in Mets blue. I'll wait up for you dear, Sandy baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight. Think of all the fun we've missed, Think of all the years that weve felt pissed, Next year I could be just as good, So just check things off my wishing list, Sandy baby, I wanna pitching stud, And not one just good, Been an angel all year, Sandy baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight. Sandy baby, forgot to mention one little thing, Some bling. You know Im talkin some World Series rings. Sandy baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight, Hurry down the chimney tonight, Hurry, tonight. Later
  12. If I were Mark Ellis, I'd get a new agent. Later
  13. Does he want to adopt me? Later
  14. Edgy, I was joking about awarding extra points. I know they are derrived using a formula. But a guy who frequently catches a knuckleball pitcher needs to get some kind of "purple heart" for all the bruises. Later
  15. Thole has logged 424 of RA's best career innings catching the knuckler... Maybe they looked at all the innings Thole caught Dickey and said "He must be a very good defensive catcher" and threw him some extra WAR points. And maybe not. Later
  16. seawolf17 wrote: Which numbers, exactly, are you looking at? The .239 OBP last year? The 85 Ks and SEVEN walks? Olivo brings nothing to the table that you don't already get from Josh Thole, except MAYBE a little pop. And that little pop would be acceptable in the platoon role he would fill. He's not a long term solution by any means. But he is what he is. And if he could be signed for a reasonable price, its acceptable. Later
  17. Oliva's numbers don't seem all that terrible. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/olivomi01.shtml His offense hadn't declined much with age. Defensively, he throws out a decent percentage of baserunners, but he has led the league in PB a number of times. If they signed both of them, I wouldn't use him when Dickey is pitching. But other than that, looking at Edgy's list, they could do a lot worse. Later

  19. bmfc1 wrote: Memories of Kyle Lobstein thread? Adam Rubin ?@AdamRubinESPN Jon Mayo, my former editor in college, reports Mets took Kyle Lobstein for another team. Makes sense. Mets said they weren't picking. Not picking? If they deal Lobstein, they'll still have three roster spots open on the 40 man. Thought they's use at least one of them in the Rule V. Something has to be brewing. Later
  20. Nahhh. A little club soda will take those stains right out. Anyhow, what time (Eastern) is the Rule V Draft today? Later
  21. (Channeling Janis Joplin) Oh Lord. Wont you find us an outfielder who sends ball over fences? With our outfield, hed blend. Each years RBI would be a dozen times ten. And Lord, for that player, wed find money to spend. Oh, Lord, can you get us two relievers or three? With blazing fastballs that make batters pee. A bullpen like that would be so pleasing to see. And, Lord can you toss in a catcher for free? Later

  23. Vic Sage wrote: I guess its a nicer way of saying "19th Century" or something Except that the "pre-integration" era went halfway through the 20th century too. And what kind of Orwellian bullshit word is that anyway? It's not the "pre-integration" era; it's the era of "segregation". Stop putting smiley faces on our ugly past. Bingo. Also- While Rupert sold the Yankees long before baseball was (re)integrated, they were the next to last team to integrate. His selection by that sub-committee reminded me of that fact. Later
