  2. Koji Uehara. There's someone there with Metley ties (one time minor leaguer), but my dark horse for MVP if he will be on the WS roster - Mike Carp. Later
  3. Is Director, Social Media the same thing as Spin Doctor? I guess it depends on if he is doing his thing before or after something happens. Let's wait and see. LAter

During his press conference yesterday, he said he made decision after a win in Kansas City back in September. Had breakfast with the GM the next day and told him, but they didn't tell anyone else in the organization until now. Later

That doesn't make much sense. Radio reception up here is weird. less than 60 miles NE of NYC, I sometimes get radio stations from as far away as Maine and Cape Cod overpowering the signals of some NY stations, both AM and FM. I get WCBS-AM loud and clear. I think I read (heard?) its because many NY stations beam their signals toward upstate NY and New Jersey because they figure Connecticut has its own stations. Not sure the reason, but it really pisses me off. Later

    Happy birthday, kid. Later
  7. Sawks in 6, but I still have to root for the National League representative. Later
  8. Yes. Since 2004, we have learned that we don't like the Cardinals and the fans of our cross town team don't like the Red Sox. That makes us like the Red Sox. Later
  9. Torii Hunter was my Al guy like Beltran was my NL guy. I wanted them to finally get to play in a World Series. Oh well. At least Carlos made it. Later
  10. If you believe that baseball is a thinking fan's sport as I do, shut off the tv sound and listen to the radiocast. Orel Hersheiser is doing excellent color commentary, letting us know not just what pitch was thrown (any color analyst can do that by reading the monitor) but why it was thrown and what it might be setting up one or two pitches later. Fascinating stuff from inside a pitcher's (and catcher's) head. Later
  11. I hope they're going to simulcast on one of the WOR sister FM stations because I just tried to get 710 AM up here and got a festival of static. Later
  12. MF reported about Carson being claimed by the Angels in her "remember" thread, Metsblog also announced that the Mets also announced today that LHP Sean Henn and RHP Greg Burke were outrighted. Also heard that the other Los Angeles team had claimed Mike Baxter from the Mets. Waiting for confirmation. Is it still a rule that teams must wait until after the World Series to make moves? MLB put the rule in a few years ago so news about moves wouldn't take attention from the post-season games. Later
  13. Had good stuff. Not so good results. I wish him well. Later
  14. Ed Bouchee was born in Montana and moved to Washington State, where he attended Washington State University. He majored in Biology and minored in Animal Husbandry. He taught those subjects for many years and then went into research. He spent time in Europe, working with the team that successfully produced the first cloned sheep. Having reached the pinnacle of success in that field, he returned to the States and rediscovered his first love - sports. He coached youth teams at the high school level for many years. But his aim was higher. He wanted to coach college athletes. He coached at several colleges, assisting several coaches to reach the College World Series. In an interview earlier this year, just prior to his death, Ed said that the one place he wanted to coach was at Penn State. As he said, "There are always new openings to explore". Later

Frayed Knot wrote: If someone were to show you then & now pictures of Mike Napoli, like they did the other night only just still shots, from back when he hit his 1st ML HR off Justin Verlander in 2006 and then when he hit the one which won the 1-0 game; and you were to compare the clean-shaven, relatively clean-cut, non-tatted look of the younger one to the shaved-headed, gnarly-bearded, inked-up version of today, which thought would pop into your head first: - Man, the last twenty years have not been kind to that dude! - I wonder which third-world country he had been held captive in over the last seven years? Neither. After viewing both pictures, the thought that would pop into my head would have a stereotypical Brooklyn accent and would say, "What is he? Fuckin' stoopid?" Later

  19. IIRC, Charlie Finley once installed a clock (when the A's were in Kansas City) to show the time between pitches and MLB made him take it down. Later
  20. I agree its an issue. But I prefer to take the glass half full approach that the Biogenesis usage was in the past and that he did not fail a drug test while he was putting up those numbers this year. Time will tell. Later
  21. Not only has it not gone unsaid, but you just said it twice. And in other threads as well. Later
  22. My kid finished the season early because of the PED suspension. But from his numbers, I'm confident he'll be fighting for a spot on the 25 man roster next Spring. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=puello001ces Later
  23. In a close call, I still think Bud Harrelson was consistently a better fielder than Ordonez. Bud prevented bloops down the left field line from turning into doubles better than any shortstop I ever saw. Later
  24. A paraphrase from Orel Hersheiser, doing color on the radiocast, "Carl Crawford has no baseball instincts, especially base running." Later
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think it probably is the end for Niuewenhuis, Carson, Burke, Byrdak, Feliciano, Valdespin, Henn for starters. Edgin? Who knows. Has not made the kind of progress they'd hoped. I voted that Edgin stays, the rest go. My thinking was that Byrdak is getting long in tooth, coming off injury. They can probably re-sign Feliciano. Henn has no real track record of success. Carson is a AAA pitcher at best. There are no lefty relievers ready in the minors. So Josh stays by default. Maybe with Scott Rice. Later
