  2. duan wrote: Out of interest, can they use someone in the final innings of the other game and then option them down? Possibly. There's a rule that says a team can add a 26th player for doubleheaders. But because the first game is a completion of a suspended game, I'm not sure if this rule applies. Later
  3. I voted: Anyone can have a bad month and Needs two or more days off. Lucas has shown that he can be a streaky hitter, and I think he needs a few days off to get his shit together and rest. Later
  4. Another quirky roster situation - if the Mets had postponed today's game instead of playing it, and made it part of a scheduled double header, they would have been able to add Matz to the roster under the "26 players for a doubleheader" rule. But because tomorrow's two games involve the resumption of a suspended game, I'm not sure if they will have to remove a player (dl? Paternity leave? option? etc.) to add Matz. Later

  6. Lefty Specialist wrote: Lol at the ESPN headline..... Jake makes Brewers hitters look like ... Mets They should stick to sports they know. Baseball isn't one of them. Betcha' they're going absolutely orgasmic about the NBA draft. Later
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: They should worry because whatever's happening doesn't particularly seem to care if they're Jewish or not. You're right. In fact, they're probably wondering WTF is happening. Anyhow, I prefer more believable, mature movie themes. I can't wait for Sharknado 3. Later
  8. Thinking Jeff Conine, but I'll keep looking. Later
  9. So, the actors are playing themselves? Jay Baruchel (I had to look him up) has one Orthodox Jewish Grandfather and is a "self proclaimed agnostic". Seth Rogen is Jewish. He attended a Talmud Torah and his parents met on a Kibbutz. So, why are they concerned about "the Rapture"? It wasn't in the Bible of their (grand)fathers. Were they traumatized by moving from Canada to the United States? Lorne Greene and William Shatner weren't. Whatever the cause, why should they worry? Feh. A Shonda! Later (I'm removing my tongue from my cheek now, but still won't see this. Sounds dumb.)
  10. Good to hear about Uecker. I spoke to him many years ago, when he was a guest on a sports talk radio show (either Bill Maser or Art Rust Jr.). We talked about when he caught the spitballs thrown by Lew Burdette. He might be the second oldest baseball broadcaster (behind Vin Scully). May he continue calling games "just a bit outside" the norm for many years. Later
  11. Speaking of absences from the booth, have any of the broadcasters (TV or radio) sent best wishes to long time Brewers announcer Bob Uecker? He was struck by a ball during batting practice about a week ago and has been sidelined since then. Later
  12. A J Pierzynski. OE: probably not, too few NL games Later
  13. Granderson. Later
  14. From gwreck's post: Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible. The way I read that, once is enough to ban him permanently. How, or if, that may have later become an addiction seems moot for purposes of enforcing that regulation. Later
  15. The folks at Grammarly (whatever that is. It is underlined in red by my spell checker) must have had a lot of time on their hands. Later
  16. Willie showed us real class yesterday: http://nypost.com/2015/06/20/stottlemyre-shocked-by-plaque-as-willie-randolph-swipes-at-mets/ Class D. Later
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: So it turns out that, even after missing most of two complete seasons, ARod is a much better 40 y/o player than Jeter as well. .278/.384/.505 vs .256/.304/.313 And probably a better player in each and every younger year. The problem was, Jeter wouldn't let him show it. Later
  18. I heard that Matt, Jacob and Noah will be on the next cover of SI. So I thought immediately thought "jinx". (I think "jinx" if I watch the game from a different chair, but back to this story) So, sure enough, anther arm injury, but not one of those three.: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/18/mets-manager-terry-collins-hints-that-juan-lagares-has-ligament-damage-in-elbow/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs Kirk, keep your bags packed. 19. A hit! At least THAT won't happen tonight. Later

Later That made me laugh out loud in public. Wasn't it one of those guys from Duck Dynasty who suggested that Dickey and Colon should never go against each other? I dunno. Ask Daniel Murphy. Later
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Thole's in the minors right now (AAA Buffalo) as he has been off and on since the trade. Well, bring him up and play him, dammit! WE WANT JOSH WE WANT JOSH WE WANT JOSH Later
  23. Martin catching Dickey? I hope they regret not giving us our Josh Thole sighting. Later
  24. dinosaur jesus wrote: Bill Hands pitched against Don Gullett one time, in 1971. Both pitchers started and relieved that year, but a large majority of their appearances were starts, so I guess that's an answer to the question. And it doesn't cause painful convulsions like Edgy's world-class-awful pun did. It was so bad I'll definitely have to remember it, so I can use it some day. Thanks. Now, back to the IGT. Later
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: I dunno. Did Bill Hands ever pitch against Elroy Face? Their careers overlapped, but Face was strictly a reliever by the time Hands came to the majors. So, we're still looking for a pair of body part named pitchers who started against each other. BTW, even though Face was a star reliever in the majors for many years, MFY announcer Mel Allen always called him Leroy instead of his name, ElRoy. He should have known better. Later
