  1. You're right about Brown, who only played outfield in about 300 games during his 11 year career. But Burgess caught over 1,100 games in his 17 year career. I remember him as a strict platoon player with Hal Smith for a while with the Bucs. Later
  2. Going back to Smokey Burgess and Gates Brown, I like guys with a gut who can hit. Later
  3. While we're talking about NOT watching MFY games, my #1 reason for not watching (even recaps) is not having to look at Sweeny Murti. How ugly can one person be? He looks like the result from a union between Bobby Jindal and E.T. And that's on his good days. It was ok when he covered the team for WFAN. But watch him? If anyone ever had the "face for radio" its good ol' Sweeny. EEESH. What a meeskeit. Later
  4. Yes, but I'd like some meaningful games in October, too. Later
  5. I just remembered how much I paid for this haircut. Later
  6. Werth and Desmond, killing the Mets, like always. But tonight they're doing it at Chavez Ravine. Later

  8. I'll save you some extra work. LaTroy Hawkins has pitched for every team. You don't have to find his card. We'll understand. Later

  11. My longtime friend Shoeless Don the White Sox fan can now have the pleasure of rooting for him. Later
  12. O'Flaherty - almost choked on a lead. Saved by Familia. Later

  14. Yes. But there you go, trying to be logical again. We should have learned by now that these kinds of things sometimes defy logic. Campbell has proven harder to get rid of than a condo in Florida. He still might last this one out until the rosters expand in September. Later
  15. I wondering if there is one too many on this list. Later
  16. I lost the signal while driving home. It was first and third with 2 outs in the ninth. I wish they'd get a station with a signal that's strong toward the North. Had to drive an additional 35 minutes home before I found out the score. Phew! That game had an asshole pucker power factor (APPF) of 9.6. At 9.8, your chair disappears up inside you. Later
  17. The CPF has had our Lefty Specialist all year. He didn't even spend any time on the DL. Later
  18. Tyler suffers from flat cap syndrome? I hope he looks around and realizes how his cap should look. Later
  19. It made sense that DD and the Tigers both needed to move on. Doing it now allows Avila to get established for a couple of months, but more importantly IMO, it allows DD to talk to other teams without any tampering issues. He got them through the trade deadline (having Avila in charge during that period would have brought the sharks in,) and now the Tigers are positioned to face the future with a new guy. Later
  20. This guy doesn't count? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A9ctor_Espino Or his Mexican league not considered part of what we call "The minors"? IIRC, there used to be four AAA Leagues, the International, Pacific Coast, American Association and Mexican. Was the Mexican League not co-equal? Later
  21. Edgy MD wrote: That's leaving out, for the moment, that the that the Cespedes trade had relatively little concrete impact on the Mets' sweep. He will be OUR Jeter, making the players around him better. And when he does, how many New York writers do you think will use that analogy, instead of writing that when you put a good hitter in any lineup, it improves the offense? Later
  22. Vic Sage wrote: Still, it was heartwarming to see Flores get a big cheer during the announcements, then a standing O every time he got up or made a play (he made a nice one early and that got the crowd going). Who says NY fans are tough? We're big mushes is what we are. As I mentioned in the IGT, Many players are liked, rooted for or loved. But Wilmer has become beloved, the way Fonzie was. And I think he will be for years to come. Later
  23. Thanks for the update on Cesar. I noticed that he hadn't played since his first rehab game, but hadn't seen a reason. Later

  25. Nymr83 wrote: Actually they're not - at least not this season anyway where his .319 OBP clocks in at a few ticks above league average. What folks need to realize is that this isn't turn of the century baseball anymore when .340-ish OBPs were the norm. it is true that the league OBP is down, but 1) i think he'll finish under his current number 2) its higher for starting outfielders (.325 or so for outfielders) And, given the team's needs for someone who actually can drive in runs in the middle of the lineup, I think they need a hitter who trots rather than walks.
