  2. Yes, head-to-head record is the tie breaker. The Mets have the 4-3 advantage. Later

  4. Missed the game due to work. But I read this thread and enjoyed the game through you. Thanks. Later
  5. Forget all other discussion. The main question of fans everywhere is, "Which team will Fred Wilpon be rooting for in the playoff series? OK, so there's a second one, "Why do the French love Jerry Lewis?" But this is a baseball board, so the Wilpon question will have to suffice. Later

  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Werth & Zimmerman in particular look to be getting older quite quickly and barely combined for 600 ABs this year. Werth can't get old too soon for me. Later
  8. d'Kong76 wrote: File it under the whole thing made no sense folder... They should name that folder after that incompetent ump. Later

  10. Weren't they supposed to play a double header today as a result of a rainout earlier in the week? Later
  11. d'Kong76 wrote: If the ump is judging by the latter, he's not doing his job well. Speaking of umps not doing their jobs well, by some strange coincidence, look who was umpiring at first base tonight. (The very mention of his name can result in bad things happening to the Mets) I predict this incompetent arbiter will make a bad call that will adversely affect the outcome of at least one game in this series. I hope not, but his track record is hard to ignore. Later

I can just hear Ahnie as Conan the Barbarian saying, "Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women. " And I like his version much better. Kill KILL KILL! Later
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: You wonder if taking the foot off the gas with all the skipped starts and innings worry out there isnt undermining the club's intensity. I think so. Baseball players (and most athletes) are very ritualistic, from the number of warmups they take to the number of practice swings while on deck to how frequently they scratch their ass. And IMO this constant moving of players in and out of the lineup and the rotation has, to use a technical term, fucked with their rhythm. They were in a good groove until Terry started juggling the lineups, rotation and bullpen hierarchies to "give them some rest". Memo to Terry - you don't stop a locomotive until it has finished the route. You derailed it. Now get it back on track. (Climbing down from my soap box now) Later
  14. With all the MVP finishes, he never led his league in ANY offensive category (counting stats). Not one in any one year. It will make evaluating him more difficult as time passes, and such evaluations are based solely on numbers. Also - I saw all three catchers Kong mentioned. And Campy was that good. It would have been interesting to see how he would have done, playing half his games in the LA Coliseum with that high screen only 250' away in left field. Later
  15. No matter what team people rooted for, if there was one Yankee everyone liked, it was Yogi. He will be fondly remembered. Later
  16. "Deja vu all over again." "When you come to a fork in the road, take it." Later
  17. I think I read that LUIS GUILLORME was named MVP of the league, but don't have a link for that award. I could be wrong and it was just the team MVP. Later
  18. I can't wait to drop Brad Dexter (nobody ever remembers him any how) and see that picture for the magnificent six. Later

  20. Wow! What a pleasant surprise. Good job, Jonathan. Good job everyone. Later
  21. Oh, terrific, relying on Niese to stop a skid. At least I'll be working, so I won't be able to watch. Later
  22. Crap! Boston beat the Jays again today. Girardi might use 60 pitchers. Later
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: If we are to assume that the name Duda is of Polish origins, a book of Polish surnames translates it to 'One who makes needless noise', possibly referring more specifically to 'bad musician' or even 'bagpiper'. Doesn't seem to fit very well with our notoriously taciturn Lucas. How about after he eats kielbasa and sauerkraut? Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: And by the looks of how things are going in Washington, we're gonna need this one. They've scored 10 runs without a Ramos grand slam? Well, the game's not over, so it still could happen. And the Washington team that doesn't want to give up their perpetual Native American insult also won. Later
  25. Edgy MD wrote: That was reported before the game. I just got home from work, which is why I join these discussions late almost every night. I don't get to see many of the night games, much less the pre-game stuff. Later
