  1. This series was the biggest disaster to happen in Washington since Spiro Agnew. Later
  2. This wishful thinking has popped up a few times in the past few weeks (another spot I remember was WEEI sports radio- Boston) http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/09/08/matt-harvey-red-sox/FyN4Al5nM2Lahg1QPA25GK/story.html Later
  3. For those who want to enjoy Howie's call again, here it is: http://dailystache.net/must-listen-howie-rose-josh-lewin-call-mets-historic-comeback/ As Edgy mentioned earlier in the thread, Howie came very close to a "Holy shit!". The homer is after the 1:25 mark. Later

  5. It will be interesting to see the incremental attendance per game since he arrived. I'm guessing it was in the high 20's to low 30's before he arrived. Attention. The following is for estimation purposes only, and I'm pulling the numbers out of my posterior, so don't quibble. Let's say it has increased by 5,000 per game since then. You could conservatively estimate the incremental revenue to be $500, 000 per game (tickets, concessions, parking). That's more than $40 million per year. I'm sure that Boras (or any other agent) would point to that and say it more than covers a $20 million per year contract, and leave plenty left over to spend on debt service, additional players or hookers for Jeff. All we need to do is wait to see what those attendance figures will actually be. Oh yeah, I guess the game results will be kind of important, too. Later
  6. It is no coincidence that your last post started with 666. I hope Winston Smith was not right. Later
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: Okay, so it was the fourth inning for the meltdown. We were both right. Mets led, Niese gagged it up. And, you just missed by one inning. You wouldn't happen to have Pete Rose's phone number, would you? We could make some serious coin when Niese pitches. Later
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: As with all problems in life Derek Jeter comes to the rescue (well, this is from his website anyway so he gets all the credit) You DO realize that when you click on that website, it gives captain perfect money, don't you? I feel used, and dirty. Next time, please paraphrase or summarize, and cite without a link, lest we get a rash. Later
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Jayson Werth is back alive and breathing. That is unfortunate. I look for the Mets to score some runs early and Niese doing his usual thing - trying to cough up the lead. Later
  10. I would hope that seeing Campbell batting cleanup is as likely as seeing Miley Cyrus starring in Mary Poppins. Later
  11. Las Vegas lost in extra innings. They're now 1/2 game behind the dreaded Chihuahuas. (It feels funny typing that) Going down to the wire. Later
  12. He started for Brooklyn tonight, pitching six innings and allowing one run. Later
  13. 4-3 Bad guys. The Cards had three runs on 16 hits!! That's not the Cards we have come to know over the years. Yech! Later
  14. Sorry, I should have included more of the quote. We were talking about Niese. Not Parnell. Later
  15. Ceetar wrote: I figure he'll turn it back around again before then, Oh, he'll probably pitch a great game once (knocking on wood) the Mets clinch a post season spot. But IMO there's no way too much testosterone will ever show up in his next drug test. I don't trust his composure in a key spot. Later
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Which pre-season quarter is Niese pitching in? Any pre-season quarter he wants to. But I don't want to see him in the post season. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Nice little lead your team has built up, Terry, but it's too early to coast, if that indeed is what's going on. I thought I knew his game. But 2015 Terry has been an enigma. There's a difference between in-game moves (tactics) and managing people. Joe Torre showed he couldn't cope with in game nuances of managing in the National League, When he moved to the clubhouse in the Bronx, the back pages of the NY newspapers called him 'Clueless Joe". But with fewer in-game decisions (mostly because of the DH rule, but also because he had Mariano Rivera) he could spend his time on the off the field part of the job, and he did it very well. At a Company I worked for, someone made a disparaging comment a secretary. The Director heard it and immediately called a meeting. He said (I paraphrase) "There's nothing I do on a daily basis that the secretary couldn't do. But there are several times a year when I have to make a difficult decision. And it on those decisions that the difference in our salaries is based". I look at Terry the same way. He robotically manages "by the book" during most of the season. But I'm still not sure whether I trust his judgment in those special spots. Later
  18. I can live with a Cards win, especially THIS one. (yeah, I'm still up, too) Later
  19. Finished the regular season a tinge below .300 in a pitchers' league and awful hitters' ballpark. Will probably be listed among the top prospects in the league and is climbing up on the list of Mets' prospects. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=becerr000wui Maybe some say it WILL be called “The Wuilmer Becerra Trade.” Later
  20. Three stops this year. Looks like my kid is starting to put it together. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=villas001edi Later
  21. I'm rooting for alien abduction. Later
  22. Four different stops in the minors this year. His last game was at St. Lucie. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gibbon002mic Nice start to your career, Kid. Later
  23. Gwreck wrote: August 31: However, the Dodgers won also. I wonder if (for the time being) triple happiness should include a Dodgers loss. Why for the time being? I hope they lose every single game all year long, in humiliating fashion. And then lose all their draft picks on a technicality. The bastages. Later
  24. Every September 1, I picture Edgy acting like a kid on Dec. 25, anxiously coming downstairs to see when presents he has received. It is his reward for the great job he does updating the rosters the rest of the year. We appreciate it, Edgy. Later
  25. Lefty Specialist wrote: I guess next time we'll get two Madoffs. Sounds like you'll read his next piece no more than two steps from a shredder - just in case. Later
