  1. I thought Yasmani Grandal was a character from Beowulf. Later
  2. If there was ever a team that needed a KTE its Cleveland. I think even the most avid baseball fan outside of northern Ohio would be hard pressed to name more than three position players on that team. Later
  3. The last player I adopted on name only was Edioglis Villasmil . He became a minor league free agent after the 2015 season and hasn't been re-signed by any US team since.(to my knowledge) Hope your guy does better. Later
  4. A right handed hitting first baseman with power? For the Mets? We hope the broken finger that ended his minor league season heals completely and he has a fast rise through the system. Later
  5. Back to the catching scene: Brian McCann is probably available from the Yanx for the right price. I can see your point on Walker. As for McCann, he has both MFY and Braves stench on him. More importantly, he has a lot of catching miles on his tires. I don't think he can still be a regular catcher and will probably demand too much money to be a platoon player. That said, he's better than any catcher the Mets now have under contract. Later

  7. Frayed Knot wrote: They obviously would have before the injury. But while it's one thing to pay $14-15 million for a catcher for one season, it's quite another to cough up that kind of cash hoping that you'll get even a half season out of him. And they'd have to pay that on top of the plans they'd have to make to cover the catching position for the first two?, three?, four? months of the season while Ramos is still recovering. Similar issues can be raised in the Walker QO thread. Is he worth it for half a season? Later
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: I'll put it this way, by the time he was pulled from the game there was blood on his hand, the ball, his shirt, his pants, and the rubber. I think that just moved Curt Shilling down to the #2 position on the post season blood lost list. Later
  9. I heard that the one year QO is around $14 million(or more). I don't think that's worth it for Walker. The money can be better used. As others have mentioned, the offer should be made. (some return VS no return) But I hope he rejects it. Later
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: Blisters don't bleed like THAT!! He sliced his pinkie finger open last week (fixing his drone naturally) and had ten stitches in it. They moved his start back from game 2 to game 3 hoping that the two extra days rest would help with the healing. And since rules prevent pitchers from having any type of substance -- including bandages, glues, tape, etc. -- on their hands, Bauer had to make a go with it with just the silk holding the wound together. Quite obviously that idea didn't work. Didn't see it. Just periodically checking the in-game reports on the PC at work. Thanks. Later
  11. Bauer out, Otero in to pitch for the Indians in the first inning. Looks like finger problem (blister?) Tribe (can we still say that?) up 1-0 after 1 on a Napoli RBI double. Later

  13. Zvon wrote: Anyone see the Fowler catches in this game? The Cubs are going all the way! 3-0 Two in one game. I had a Tommie Agee flashback. The Cubs are gonna' win it all. Later
  14. I did an historic KTE on the 1960 WS champion Bucs on the 50th Anniversary of that team, but don't remember any thread about the '71 team here. It sounds interesting. Thanks. Later

  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yeah, it doesn't really matter. If he wants to win it for the ghost of Maury Amsterdam, that's fine by me. Or the Ghost of Marv Throneberry. (Wasn't he a CPF-er a long time ago?) Later
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Wait, hold it... YOU were rooting for the Dodgers? I rooted for the meteor when they were playing on the left coast. But this was played too close to home. The pain the Nats have inflicted is more recent. If they both couldn't lose, this was the lesser of two evils and I still hat myself. I will ask for forgiveness next Yom Kippur. Go Cubs! Later
  18. I hung in as long as I could, but fell asleep with the score 4-3 and the Nats still threatening. When I woke up this morning, the I checked to see that the Nats didn't win and that Ollie Perez was not the winning pitcher. I was happy. Later
  19. 0-3, but with an RBI yesterday. Later
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Padres whack CEO Mike Dee. Yeah, with his bad self runnin things and his bad-breath onion rings. I missed the whole kefluffle but apparently one his many fuckups was trying to get away with opening a Padres Hall of Fame named in honor of that San Diego great... Bud Selig!? They finally called that plan off. I can't think about that now. I'm making travel plans to visit the Marge Schott Hall of Fame in Cincinnati. Later
  21. Sal Tessio is still alive? Later

  23. Another year, another great job. Kudos for the hard work you put into this. Later
  24. Centerfield wrote: Speaking of politics and baseball, I wonder how MFY fans, who adored Giuliani during this terms as mayor, feel about him now. I just wish he was wearing an MFY hat when he claims men just talk like that sometimes. He wears a virtual MFY hat no matter where he is. And fans of that team probably still love him. You can't underestimate the intelligence of the lower phyla. Later
  25. That was the waste of a root. I'll have to root better for the Cubbies in the next game. Later
