  2. Ex Mets farmhand Michael Fulmer, won the AL Rookie of the Year Award. LAter
  3. Glad to see Wuilmer is still on the top 10. Those 5 tools he shows in practice (including the power tool that doesn't show up in games) must be spectacular. Later

  5. Edgy MD wrote: That was against the Netherlands. I'm trying to guess if that was a pitcher we know, like Kenley Jansen or somebody. Mark "Boom Boom" Bomback would have been proud of giving up that one. Later
  6. I'm sure that wasn't covered in the review of grounds rules before the game. He hit it out of the ballpark. And the fact that it did not come back into the stadium short of the fences makes it logically a home run. Can you imagine what Earl Weaver would have done if Earl was his manager and it was called a grounds rule double? Later

    Fritz Polka

  8. Magnificent Seven. When in doubt, pick the one that also mentions an MFY loss. Later

  10. Edgy MD wrote: (They have interestingly won zero American League Silver Slugger Awards and none as DH's.) I'm not guessing on this question because I know the heartbreak of a negative score. But Eddie Murray won a Silver Slugger in the AL before he came to the Mets. Later

  12. How disappointing. I thought this thread was about me. Later
  13. I went against (my) tradition of not giving the Post credit for anything. But Two by Two was two good to pass up. Later
  14. I don't recall any problem with parking when I went to the old park. There WAS a jam leaving once the game was over, but its probably that way in most ballparks. But the problem I see is that they will be 20 miles away from Varsity, so a lot of hot dogs will get cold and a lot of onion rings will get soggy before the fans get them to the new stadium. http://www.thevarsity.com/locations.php?action=view&store_id=9 OE: Its now a local chain, so there may be one near the new place. Problem solved. BTW- the onion rings are world famous, and they deserve that honor, grease and all. Later
  15. Are they going to acquire Josh Thole to catch him? Later
  16. RealityChuck wrote: The home run, obviously. But what I most remember about Bartolo is the joy he showed in playing the game. He was out there to have fun, and let everyone know it. Yes to both. I guess this means there may not be a Bartolo Colon lunch box giveaway day at Citi Field next year, unless they do it when the Braves come to town. Later
  17. I don't care. I'll waste my own time, thanks. Bartolo was Robbed. Later
  18. IIRC, one of the mavens at a Mets blog wrote when he was drafted that Oberste could be the steal of his years' draft because of his sweet swing. He has had a steady rise through the system and played at Binghamton this year. Let's see how he develops. Later
  19. He should cut out that article and have it framed. He could then hang it on that wall near his Heisman Trophy as a memory of his baseball career. Later
  20. Matz Better It has all sorts of good news on it. Later
  21. You almost had me at "Yo and Behold" but on closer inspection it also contained the name of an over rated shortstop. So "Southern Comfort" it is. Knowing Cespedes was coming back gave me a comforting feeling. Later
  22. I thought I remembered that the player spelled his last name differently. I was right: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lovulto01.shtml Later
  23. Per the Binghamton Mets official press release this is how the name came about: The winning name submission came from Nicole, of Binghamton. Her inspiration for Rumble Ponies came from “The Carousel,” a children’s book written by Binghamton University professor Liz Rosenberg about carousel horses that sleep in the winter, but come to life in the spring. Nicole was awarded season tickets for life and the first home jersey produced for winning the Name the Team Contest. “When I rode the carousels as a child every summer, I imagined they were wild stallions or untamed ponies,” said Nicole. “Now as a mother I watch my young sons do the same. The book illustrates the concept of every child's imagination of what these horses truly are. These carousels of the Triple Cities were put here by men of industry from our local history for the community to enjoy, just like baseball.” “Using a local author’s work as her lead, Nicole has helped shape the future of Minor League Baseball in Binghamton while paying homage to the past,” Hughes said. “That speaks volumes about the strength and spirit of the people of the Southern Tier.” Later
