  1. Kieth Law rates him # 60. http://sports.yahoo.com/m/cd8b2e0f-3792-31f3-bf2d-42042ecdfee0/law-says-thomas-szapucki-is.html Later

  3. Similar to Denny McLain's "gift" to Mickey Mantle? Possible. And for all the items you mentioned. Later

  7. David Schoenfield of ESPN.com takes a crack at predicting every induction class until 2045. He has Thor getting inducted in 2044. I'll be 81 years old! I'll be 101. Here's an interesting take on how Raines finally got in on his 10th try. A good read. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/how-the-internet-helped-get-tim-raines-voted-into-the-hall-of-fame-041816589.html Later
  8. Bagwell is the first player from Connecticut to make it into the Hall since two guys who played in the 1800's made it. (Heard their names on tv this morning but don't remember them). He was born in Boston, but his family moved to CT when he was one year old. And, according to the local sports reporter, he was a better hockey and soccer player than a baseball player at Xavier High School in Midddletown. Later
  9. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I feel like we'll be getting some pretty persistent MFY-fan bitching over the next decade or two about Posada getting the one-year/one-finger treatment. And for the next decade or two I will be feeling Schadenfreude about Posada. Too bad the votes for a lousy fielding shortstop and a pitcher who never threw a complete game will interrupt that euphoria. Later
  10. I voted 11th Heaven. So many members of the pitching staff have long hair that the hair angle has become a crutch when they have nothing else clever to say. Later

  12. I like him and want him to do well. I also think that someone like Keith Hernandez (a proven veteran) should tap him on the shoulder and lure him over to the batting cage this Spring to show him how to go with the pitch against the shift. IMO it would do wonders toward flattening out those peaks and valleys. And the reason it should be a stealth kind of training is that if the reporters found out about it, they'd be all over him daily in Spring Training asking how he is progressing. And because of his personality, that would put pressure on him. Later

  17. Edgy MD wrote: You watch this stuff enough, the incidental details start to shine through, like the bad fielders who make the good fielders look spectacular. Derek Jeter made a lot of first basemen look spectacular. Later
  18. d'Kong76 wrote: Rumors from Florida are that Derek Jeter will soon be getting a wall too. Initial reports are unclear if he will pay for his wall or if it's The City of Tampa's responsibility to pay for his wall to keep Tampanians off his com- pound. There are whispers that he may pay for the wall because he can't wait any longer and then bill the city and make them pay for it or foot the bill through some contrived tax or something. Details will be available here as they become available. Well done! Later
  19. I did read the article, and since he DID mention their 2016 MLB service, I wondered why ETA wasn't something like "Already MLB" instead of 2017. Isn't a discrepancy like that something the editor should catch, or at least mention to him? Later
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Sickels list published today. High on Szapucki and Gsellman http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/1/12/14229332/new-york-mets-top-20-prospects-for-2017 Does he ever watch a major league game, or just minor league ones? He says ETA for both Gsellman and Rivera is 2017. Doesn't he know they already made their debuts in 2016 and were major contributors down the stretch? Crap like that damages the credibility of any writer. Later
  21. Underworld - Blood Wars is the fifth in the Underworld series about the battle between Vampires and Lycans (werewolves) that has been raging for centuries. This one is about Seline trying to protect a coven from the united, stronger Lycan clan. She is also trying to find Michael, the father of her daughter who is a direct descendant of Alexander Corvenus, the first true immortal and "the father of us all". If you haven't seen or read about the past movies, you will find out information you should know in two ways. Before the credits, you hear a brief narrative from Seline to set the scene. Then, when additional background is needed, if a vampire tastes the blood of another vampire, they can read his thoughts and learn addition information (also presented as clips from the past movies). Clever way to fill in the blanks, eh? Later .
  22. Watching a rerun of a 1994 episode of Law and Order titled "Wager." There have been a lot of Mets references (including Doc Gooden and Sid Fernandez) in banter about how well one of the policemen would hit against major league pitching. Later

This triggers Noah Syndergaard's inner Liam Neeson. http://tomahawktake.com/2017/01/08/atlanta-braves-just-unintentionally-intentionally-start-war/ The Mets had one of those, but also had a Steven Matz lunchbox giveaway day. Big mistake. The heck with a giveaway, they could have SOLD enough Bartolo Colon lunchboxes to pay him to stay. Later
  24. Vic Sage wrote: i loved it, mostly, and I think the complaints i've heard about the lack of singing and dancing ability of Gosling and Stone are both overstated and miss the point. I do think its somewhat overlong and rambling, and a lot of it is lifted without acknowledgment form UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, but its still a terrific piece of filmmaking, and the music is really good. As we walked down the aisle to be married, the theme from the Umbrellas of Cherbourg ("If it Takes Forever, I will Wait For You") was played. We picked it because we waited two years for me to get out of the Army for us to wed. Haven't seen this movie yet. Should be interesting. We now return you to a movie review frame of mind. Later
  25. Murray Chass submitted a blank ballot, because he's a gigantic douche. Absolutely unacceptable. Thank you, Mr. Chass. We're going to strip you of your vote and give it to someone who gives a damn. http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/01/08/murray-chass-intentionally-turned-in-a-blank-hall-of-fame-ballot/ Chass' column: http://www.murraychass.com/?p=10495 Since the admission is based on percent of votes cast, his actions could theoretically deprive a player who is just short of the 75% needed for induction. As the writer said, if he doesn't like the system, he should find a way to improve it. Chass hole. Later
