  1. cooby wrote: Doc Ellis he is not That was my thought when reading the first posts in this thread. And Ellis tossed a no hitter while tripping on LSD. It reminds me of the famous comment when a woman told President Lincoln that General Grant drank!(alcohol) Lincoln said that he wanted to find out what Grant drank and send a case of it to his other Generals. If Harvey showed up in the clubhouse before today's game totally blasted, I'd wait to see how well he pitches (a la Ellis) and then reprimand him. Now, I'll continue reading this, and other threads, to find out more. But I had to respond to Cooby. Later
  2. For those of you who like catchers who can hit, you'll LOVE my new adoptee. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=664850#/career/R/hitting/2017/ALL The college kid (Stetson) who bats lefty is currently hitting cleanup for St. Lucie and raking to the tune of .374. Welcome to the family, Pat. Make us proud. Later

  4. Nice story: http://nypost.com/2017/05/05/the-next-in-house-mets-starter-hope-is-nothing-like-their-aces/ He finally gave up a run last night. Later

  6. Edgy MD wrote: Look for Wilmer's return. Gary speculates he'll be at second with T.J. remaining at first, but I don't see any reason it shouldn't be the other way around, save for some sort of inertia that has caused a week of firstbasing to imprint upon T.J. that he is, somehow now a firstbaseman, first and foremost, until crisis forces the manager's hand. As long as TJ is still hitting, feels comfortable there, and no small animals have been harmed, let him stay there. Later
  7. Edgy MD wrote: I never understood "You can't make this up." Sure you can. It happens all the time. You say that when you don't want to say "Oh FUCK! Not again". Later
  8. The ERAs of Craig, Jackson, Hook and Miller from the 1962 team look good by comparison. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/1962.shtml Later
  9. On the post game show, Nelson Figueroa said Harvey had good velocity and had 4 different pitches working, but didn't have command of them. And he kept saying it over and over, like he is getting paid by the word. But one other thing he said that was interesting was that all of his pitches were on the outside half of the plate, he never went inside and the Braves were looking there every at bat. But he never questioned why the catcher didn't set up differently and kept calling for the outside pitches. Later

  12. Edgy MD wrote: bmfc1 wrote: Exactly. It's a 3 hour baseball talkshow and it's terrible. They might as well bring Stephen A. Smith in to yell about something as the game is going on. What's the deal with that guy? I don't know anybody who isn't just embarrassed when that guy is on. Does he get good ratings by people hate-watching? Is he sort a black Francessa, where he has a large and vocal he's-a-tool-but-he's-our-tool base. I'm hoping the phenomenon of Smith is like that of comedian Andy Kaufman when he used to beat up women. Viewers thought it was an act. Later, they realized it was for real, he was a sick person and he dropped off the radar screen. I watched about 3 minutes of Smith, saw the pony's one trick and haven't watched since. Later
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Hey "Worldwide Leader in Sports", do you think that maybe your increasing insistence that there are in fact just TWO sports in this country might be part of the reason your subscriber base is plummeting? Maybe they'll do what The Sporting News did when they announced they would "begin to cover other sports". Here comes the NASCAR coverage. Lots of beered up fans to show while the action is going on. They'll love it. (S/C = 92) Later
