  1. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Here's my thought: He "wins" the 5th starter role and is "piggybacked" with his challenger Lugo. They monitor the first half-dozen starts and continually reassess. By then the circumstances change again: Matz comes back, or whatever, and Wheeler becomes the piggyback man. This. But no matter how many games/ innings, I think he'll go 3.45 ERA, 7.8 K/ 9 IP and 3.3 BB/ 9 IP, 1.27 WHIP. Later
  2. There's a (used to be ) free internet news distribution service called PRweb.com https://app.prweb.com/Login.aspx If its still free, put that announcement up on that site, let them send it out, and see what happens. We used it when our start-up was just starting up and got some leads. There's a committee that screens the applicants to make sure they're news-worthy (there are several categories) and their distribution is based on that sreening. Worth a try. Might be fun. LAter
  3. .270 - 20 - 75. Rosario comes up during the season and plays so well that Walker is not signed to a contract extension. Later
  4. Nice list. What was the fundamental reality in Invaders from Mars? I don't recall the plot. Later
  5. Edgy MD wrote: We've caught a theme here. I'm sure he's bad, but I doubt he's re-writing the book on badness. Probably not, but I've been saving up that quote to use for a long time. Later
  6. To quote Dick Young talking about MFY left fielder Hector Lopez, "He plays fly balls like they're going to explode on contact". But the balls do explode off his bat in the minors. Someone in the AL will want him. Traded in mid season. Later
  7. He is a joke, putting himself above the game. https://sports.yahoo.com/news/asdrubal-cabrera-basically-gets-ejected-while-running-to-first-base-224932735.html Oh yeah, Mets lost, 1-0. Later
  8. 17-7, 2.22, 9.3 K/9 IP, 2.2 BB/ 9IP Gets immediately elected to the Mets Hall of Fame by hitting Chase Utley square in the gonads with a 100 MPH pitch. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Seeing how, apart from getting forums named after you, none of these guys is a raving success story, I'd say it's hard to establish a big league starting firstbaseman of any caliber. Over the years, the Mets haven't established too many really good hitters at other positions, either. The organization has seemed to specialize in finding and developing pitchers. And they have done a great job at that. Let's hope Dom Smith will some day reach the top of that list of first basemen and deserve his own forum. Later
  10. You can't steal first. Until he learns to hit his way there, he won't make it to the majors. And he'll be learning at A+ this year. Later
  11. Mets Willets Point wrote: Stroman, the New Yorker who works in Toronto, is pitching very well for the USA in a road game in Los Angeles. I watched some of the game on ESPN2, It had Spanish speaking sportscasters doing it. When I tuned in, they were interviewing Commissioner Manfred and he talked about moving the next WBC to other countries. He also talked about using the replay in earlier rounds. The only reason they hadn't was lack of technical capabilities at some of the venues but that can be addressed by the next WBC. Later, (i'm not sure if it was on MLB TV or ESPN2, they mentioned that Stroman is quite an interesting person. He went to Duke, then left when drafted into the pros. When he tore his ACL, during rehab he went back to Duke and finished up his degree. Since then, he has gone into music (with his own group) and has a clothing line. One of the announcers called Stroman a "Renaissance Man". Later
  12. Smith and Conforto will be the Gehrig and Ruth of the Pacific Coast League this year, until their close-to-.400 averages force the Mets to call them up. That will happen after the All Star Break, and Smith will have a Willie McCovey impact on the team. He'll replace an often injured injured Lucas Duda and hit .338 - 9 - 52 in the second half of the season and lead the Mets to the pennant. Later
  13. He looks like a guy who will continue to smoke 'em at the major league level this year. 55 G, 48 IP (c'mon Terry, give him a chance against all hitters), 63 K, 2.78 ERA. Later
  14. The replay rule didn't seem to lengthen the game too much. Most of them (there had been 5 when I went to sleep) were settled in less than one minute, and one was in 61 seconds. Worth the time to get the calls right. Later
  15. Vic Sage wrote: in the "deluded protagonist" sub-genre (like JACOB'S LADDER, OCCURRENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE, SIXTH SENSE, MEMENTO, BEAUTIFUL MIND, ENEMY, etc.), the plot's reliance on its twist ending makes it a one-trick pony. But its pretty well done, nonetheless. Do you include Don't Look Now in that category? Of course, one movie trailer told viewers not to reveal the ending. It was Witness For the Prosecution. Later
  16. For a player who repeated AA Binghamton and only hit about .250 with little power there last year, I don't see Jayce Boyd being promoted to AAA Las Vegas this year. I don't see who obviously might be promoted instead of him. But after what he has shown this spring, maybe they'll jump Champ Stuart over him. Later
  17. Balentien has serious power. The announcer said he hit 60 home runs in Japan last year. The one he hit tonight went half way up the left field bleachers (of course, in LA they call it a pavilion). Later
  18. Got himself onto the prospect radar this year, but 2017 will be a year of auditioning for a 2018 call-up. Later
  19. When he was drafted, scouting reports said he had good batting contact skills and was good defensively. Those will emerge enough in AAA this year to make him a legitimate contributor in the majors in 2018. And, he'll make some brief appearances when TDA hits the DL, and bat .267 - 5 - 20 in the majors. Later
  20. Shows the reporters who rank the minor league prospects why he should have been ranked #1 by all of them. Proves to be a man among boys in AA and AAA, gets promoted to the Mets in September. His walk up music will be "I'm High On You". By the end of that month, Mets team executives will be figuring out where to put his statue in 20 years. Oh, .357/ .400/ .475. in September. (Don't get too excited. He'll have another 19 years to work on his power stroke.) Later
  21. Agree with JCL, but with more saves (maybe 12), losta' holds and a comfort level that if all else goes bad with some other relievers (suspensions, injuries, expectations not met), he will step in and get the job done, whether it is in the 7th, 8th or 9th inning. Later
  22. He'll fight off the challenges of the others vying for the reserve infielder roster spot that in all rights should be named in his honor. He fought for it, he earned it and he deserves it. He'll hit .325/ .365/ .485 and play enough defense to convince Terry that he should become the regular second baseman when Walker's contract ends. Homey can hit! Later
  23. batmagadanleadoff wrote: MFS62 wrote: Starts out the closer, and when he begins to falter a bit, hands the role over to a returning Familia or an emerging Robles. (yes, Robles) When all is said and done, 75 G, 71 IP, 22 sv, 18 H, 2.28 ERA. If Reed gives up just 18 hits in 71 innings pitched, his ERA's gonna be a lot lower than the 2.28 you have him down for. Unless they're all HR's or something. "H" was for holds, not hits. Later
  24. I guess A-Rod dating J-Lo qualifies for this thread. J-Rod? I think I'm gonna' fwow up. Later
  25. Several stories coming out of Spring Training have been about how Travis is throwing better and the pitchers have been learning how to hold runners on first better. Rivera's playing time will be inversely proportional to how well those lessons have been learned. But however many games he plays, he'll go .235/ .295/ .370. Later
