  2. I remember when Bob Murphy would pronounce his name, he would include every syllable. Most pronounced it "SHANE-dinst". Bob pronounced it "SHOW-en-dinst" Later

Tomás Nido, on the other hand, collected two hits and two RBI in his two plate appearances so win. #dontbesurprised Rosario's first strikeout came against a pitcher who is among the rarest of species in the baseball world - a righthander who throws a screwball. The announcers speculated that was the pitch on strike three. Al Leiter, pitching coach for team USA said it was a changeup. But it appeared to have a "different" motion and I doubt Rosario had ever seen anything like it. I didn't see the second K. Later
  4. Sometimes I look at the Mets lineups and think Terry is this generation's Moe Berg, a secret agent for Washington. Later
  5. He was removed from his game this week in the first inning, and I haven't seen the reason. I hope he isn't injured again. Later

  7. Its a perfect time to start cleaning out my house (and garage) and getting rid of a lot of old and/or useless stuff to make room for new and useful things. Sandy take note. Later
  8. I has read somewhere (forget where) that these lists are not showing the amounts for which Venezuelan players sign because they are fearful of kidnapping and ransom requests. Later
  9. If he is ranked third lowest by the players, I'd guess a number of players who rated him that badly share his ethnicity. Later
  10. Umpire Angel Hernandez Sues Rob Manfred, MLB for Racial Discrimination "Hernandez claims Joe Torre's hiring as MLB's executive vice president of baseball operations coincided with a decline in Hernandez's performance rating. " http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2719717-umpire-angel-hernandez-sues-rob-manfred-mlb-for-racial-discrimination Oh boy, my hottest umpiring button. Hernandez is absolutely the most egotistical and incompetent person to ever wear an umpire's uniform that I have witnessed in my over 60 years of watching baseball. Two others may have been ranked lower by the players, but when combined with Hernandez' in-your-face- style, denying any and all criticism, he slithers below them. His low performance ratings are richly deserved. Later

  12. Edgy MD wrote: 51s swingman Logan Taylor goes on the DL ... after being assaulted with a tire iron and a bag of rocks during an attempted robbery, suffering a concussion. Update: The wound required seven surgical staples (stitches) to close. He's on the DL but is feeling well enough to attend games. The assailant, a homeless man, has been caught. Later
  13. He is now playing for Salt Lake city in the PCL, and has homered in each of the the last two games against the Mets AAA Las Vegas team, his 11th and 12th homers of the year. Later
  14. [crossout:mqrqciio]And Salas gets the win? I know, wins aren't an important part of a pitcher's record, and the official scorer can award the win to another pitcher if the pitcher of record pitched "briefly and ineffectively." But still ... Oh, they won.[/crossout:mqrqciio] Never mind. That's why Schaefer voting is so improtant. Later

  16. I don't know how difficult it was to research this but I heard on WFAN yesterday that deGrom's career ERA in games that start before 5 PM is the lowest in baseball over the past 100 years. It is around 1.60. Its around 6:30 PM, too late to call MLB and have the game moved up. But for future reference ... Later

On a more serious note, MFY outfielder Dustin Fowler suffered a knee injury in the first inning of his Major League debut Thursday night against the Chicago White Sox when he collided with a wall in right field trying to track down a fly ball. Fowler suffered an open rupture of the patella in his right knee and has already undergone surgery. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/ct-dustin-fowler-moonlight-graham-20170630-story,amp.html I hope the Adrenalin from playing in his first major league game kept the pain level down. Sounds bad. Later
  18. Who cares if he can get hitters out? We could use him as a pinch hitter. Bring Bartolo Back! NOW! Later
  19. He'd be better than Ramirez. Heck, I'd be better than Ramirez (hyperbole meter hit 74). Sign him. Later
  20. smg58 wrote: You sign him to a minor league deal, then give him a couple of weeks in Vegas to see if he can right his ship. Worst case scenario: we lose nothing, and he gets a couple of weeks in Vegas. No pitcher has ever completely righted his ship in the Pacific Coast League unless it was an injury rehab and he just needed innings. I'd send him to Binghamton instead. The Eastern League is a little more pitcher friendly and it would be easier to get a handle on his progress. Later
  21. Nice to cheer an umpire for a change. Later
  22. If I had to have one, it would be the Toronto Blue Jays because I have many Canadian friends who root for the Jays. And they play the MFYs. Later
