  2. He's Ashie's adoptee. Later
  3. RIP, Don. You were one of the good guys in the game, no matter which uniform you wore. Later
  4. Vic, I know you mentioned Hollywood films and the AFI 100 list. But an interesting companion movie to Lawrence of Arabia might be Hill 24 Doesn't Answer. You know. The British officer trying to find himself involved in a war in the Middle East. Just a thought. If not, how about Gunga Din? Anyhow, it sounds like a great thing to do with him. Later
  5. Howie for President. He tells it like it is. Later
  6. When I saw that Smith wasn't in the lineup for Las Vegas last night, I started to go into my happy dance. I thought he was on his way to New York. Then he pinch hit later in the game. And I was sad. Later
  7. The announcer's words beautifully captured my thoughts about that organization. Later
  8. Matz vs Ryu (LHP). C'mon guys! Give my wife a birthday present. Later (This didn't violate any CPF tradition, did it?)

These guys say otherwise: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/655028-the-splendid-splinter-and-the-50-best-nicknames-in-mlb-history Neither has a reference. At any rate, nobody suggested that being skinny prevents anybody from being a good hitter. That is correct, nor was my sentence meant to infer than anyone did say that. Since there is no verification of either explanation, that means that either of us could be right. Right? Later

  12. 3-3 in the 6th. All runs scored on home runs. Later
  13. If they're going to have a give away day this series this weekend, it is to late to suggest a Chase Utley voodoo doll, complete with a wooden stake to drive through its heart? Later
  14. Speaking of Spawn of Satan, I din't realize that Chase Utley still plays for them. Bastage. Later

  16. Travis is having a marginally better year than Lucroy, and neither of them is having a good year. Travis is in his late 20's, and Lucroy is in his early 30's, approaching an age when many catchers have started a rapid decline. Not sure if either is a long term solution to the catching situation. Later
  17. Rosario was rated a top 5 prospect on every list. Being thin doesn't mean you can't hit. Ted Williams got the nickname "The Splendid Splinter" at an early age, and scouts called a young Darryl Strawberry the "Black Ted Williams". (When told of this Darryl did not know who Ted Williams was) I'm sure the scouts looked at his swing and where the ball ended up (both on offense and defense), not the length of his limbs when they filed their reports. If all else fails, the latest Sharknado movie will have its premiere on Sunday night. The forces of good MUST defeat the Spawn of Satan this weekend. And I'm not talking about the movie. LGM Later
  19. The story of the evacuation of Allied troops from France to England during World War II. The British Navy was keeping its warships close to home to in order to repel the expected German invasion. So private boats, manned by civilians, went to the French coast to retrieve the troops. The movie centers on three intertwined stories; a soldier trying to get back to England, an Englishman and his sons sailing his private boat to rescue soldiers, and a fighter pilot trying to protect the troops and ships from enemy planes.

I'm sure my stuffed Snowball doll (Secret Lives of Pets reference) does. Yes, I have one on my computer desk, a present from my wife. Its looking down on me as I type this. Later
  21. There must be something they're not telling us because it seems that a lefty pitcher with Edgin's record would be a welcomed addition to just about any team, especially one in a pennant race. Was he the dildo donor? Later
  22. Edgy MD wrote: I'm not sure how Wilmer Flores and T.J. Rivera failed to demonstrate that the Mets have plenty of options at third if Wright doesn't return. Infield depth isn't what has undone the team this year. I would be ok, if that were the plan - Wilmer at third and TJ at second. But it seems Terry doesn't hasn't given them consistent time to develop their skills at those positions. He keeps moving them around and that can't be helpful to their development. If that is the plan, I wish he would just leave them there (once TJ gets back). Later

  24. He can't stay on the DL for the remaining three years of his contract. He will have to be put back on the 40 man roster each year prior to the Rule V draft, and then put back on the DL at the start of each next year. So that could expose a player who might help the club down the line to that draft for the next three years In each remaining year, the insurance policy kicks in after he has missed 60 days. So the club is responsible for about 25% of each year's contract plus the cost of the insurance policy. I don't think those premiums are trivial, since they were renegotiated at the conclusion of his prior contract, and after his spinal stenosis was known. The fact that there seems to be no long term solution in place to address the third base situation is something that still matters. Later
  25. Bottom line, we got three middle of the pack minor leaguers from an organization that is ranked 20th among minor league organizations. As Donald's first two wives ( and a lot of Russian hookers) must have said, "Is that all there is?" Later
