  1. The best, and scariest, "line" in Dr. Strangelove was never spoken. As the camera pans the Generals in the War Room, the title of one of the books in front of them is Estimated Losses in Megadeaths. Later
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: And then their 112 pound midget hits a seven hopper that never comes near any of the infielders. His homage to Derek Jeter. Later
  3. Crap! Can't they keep the ball in the ballpark? Later
  4. Joel Sherman wrote: For now let’s focus on third. Wright has three years and $47 million left, and insurance will continue to take care of a large swath of that if he does not play or retires. As Red Barber used to say "Whoa, Nelly". This is the first time I've read that the insurance would pay for some of his contract if he retires. All prior accounts of the insurance led us to believe that if he retired, he would be leaving the money on the table. If he's getting paid either way, why hasn't this been mentioned before? It seems to certainly make it easier to convince him. No? Later
  5. dgwphotography wrote: So, 79 third basemen in the first 24 years, 86 in the next 31+. The curse lives! I blame Don Zimmer for poisoning the land. Later
  6. This team takes me back to the days when I would tune in to watch Kingman or Foster at bats, then as soon as they were over I would tune out because nobody else in the lineup was capable of doing anything to excite me. I feel that way now about Rosario and Conforto and maybe Smith will soon find his way to that list. But, Dammit, Terry, bat Rosario second or third and Conforto right after him, so I don't have to suffer dynamic ennui during the at bats between them. In the meantime, I'll root. Hard. But its a struggle. Later
  7. You can't lose two games in a row (or any time for that matter) to a guy named Didi. You just CAN'T! LGM! Later
  8. He continues to prove his ranking. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2017/08/15/kinsler-angel-hernandez-hes-messing-baseball-games-blatantly/104635246/ Later
  9. He probably bet on the Cardinals. Bastage. Later
  10. I'd like to remember him by his legacy - the player(s) the Mets got in return. If that return had to go through waivers, shouldn't that have happened by now? Its been more than 48 hours since the trade was announced. Later
  11. Just got here. Did any of the announcers mention that Amed Rosario tonight became the best shortstop to ever play in YS III? (or YS II for that matter).* Later * = A day without a "Fuck you, Jeter" comment is like a day without sunshine.

    LOL Yankees

It was his punishment for wearing a flat brimmed MFY HAT. (It isn't a baseball cap unless the brim is curled). Later
  13. Grab 'em by the Jeters? Instant classic! Later
  14. Edgy MD wrote: I liked that hit by Cabrera. Rips a foul down the left-field line. Rips a foul down the right-field line. Then he drives one off the pitcher. Old baseball saying, he "uses the whole field". Oh, and BOOKS! Later
  15. The announcement was supposed to happen after the game. OK, so who did they get? Later
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: Derek Jeter to run the baseball operations. Price is said to be $1.2 Billion That means we'll be seeing TV shots of him (if not interviews) in the owner's booth on every single telecast, both when the Mets play them and all nationally telecast games. The fucker is harder to get rid of than a condo in Florida. Later
  17. Must be Mike Schmitt. (but I was going to say Big Papi.) Later
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Yes, I noted that his spot was open. Crossing posts. I started typing before yours was posted. As for who goes down, too bad they don't have Eric Campbell any more. He was always good for a demotion or DFA when we needed one. Later
  19. Didn't they open that roster spot with the Jay Bruce trade? I didn't read that the minor leaguer they got for him was added to the 40 man roster. OE: Activated Legares. Someone's gotta' go. Later
  20. Smith? As in the mighty blacksmith of Greek mythology? Then he should be Hephaestus!, or ... Maybe not. Later
  21. Mets fans are asking what two wives and a lot of Russian hookers have said to Donald, "Is that all there is"? Later
  22. For Ryder Ryan (not to be confused with Ryan Ryder), a minor league reliever. (What else?) As per Joel Sherman. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=ryan--000ryd Guess this opens up a 25 man roster spot for Dom Smith. Later
  23. My kid made his major league debut today for the Angels. He went 1-4 (a single) with his first major league RBI and 2 (that's TWO) stolen bases. Glad you finally made it, kid. Stay clean. Later
  24. And a happy ending for Chris Flexen - his first major league victory. Chris... uh .... Chris. You can exhale now. Later
  25. I've seen all of the movies on your list except for three: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly; Touch of Evil; and American Beauty. I saw Touch of Evil in my college films class. Many people talk about the opening scene (at the time, the longest one-take continuous scene in any movie). But my most memorable moment, the one that showed me Welles' genius as a director, was the "second blink". When you see the movie, you'll know exactly what I mean. Enjoy it. Later
