  1. And then maybe its just THIS: https://www.crawfishboxes.com/2018/2/3/16967658/everything-youve-read-about-this-hot-stove-season-is-false-darvish-arrieta-martinez-hosmer-moustakas Are the "big" free agents this year really worth what they're asking? Later
  2. Got another cowboy hat ready? Bartolo's minor league deal with Texas is official. https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/colon-agrees-to-minor-league-deal-with-rangers/265866894 Later
  3. Back to David trying to come back. To me, he's in the same situation as "Eddie the Eagle", the inexperienced Englishman who wanted to compete in the ski jump at the Winter Olympics. We admire his dedication, but we're hoping he won't get seriously or permanently injured, and wish he'd reconsider. Later
  4. Ceetar wrote: as long as he has 60 total days on the DL they get 75% of his salary for every day he's on the DL. 60 total days? I thought it must be 60 consecutive days. Big difference. IMO it would cause a lot of negotiatus interruptus in the determination in any year's insurance payoff if they had to wait to string DL stints to get to the 60 total. When/ where did you read that? 6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Would it really save any significant amount of time? That was my thought. Is a player getting into the cart, then the cart riding around the warning track, then the pitcher getting out of the cart and walking to the mound any faster than a pitcher walking directly to the mound? As the football coach said when asked if he had a good time on his honeymoon, I'd have to see the film. Later

It's time to get Darvish, Moustakas, Arrieta, Hosmer, Lucroy, Martinez, and Lance Lynn in a room. $10M each for 2018, let's win a fucking championship, and then you can all be free agents again and make even BIGGER money. [/my private fantasy world] And I will gladly gag Scott Boras, tie him up, and throw him in a dumpster while this is going on. And I'll keep him there until all the players are signed. Let's do it! Later OE: I'd do it even if you don't do that.
  8. Sandy pretty much rules out the Mets signing Moustakas. Sandy Alderson narrows Mets’ free-agency options Not especially surprising. So, we'll be pacing the floor, waiting to see which 39th and or 40th players on other teams' rosters will become available when those teams sign free agents. Oh goody! Oh well, at least he got a (partial) mediocre eduction out of it. My friend lives there. He pronounces it Tarana and says it is the "Centre of the Universe". Later
  10. I even posted in that other thread. Yikes! I must have been channeling another CPF-er. Later
  11. Travis goes over to the Dark Side. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/9387/travis-taijeron Too bad, he seemed like such a good guy. Later

He was 68, no cause of death reported as of yet. 200 career ML HRs for the Cubs, Phillies, Indians, White Sox (twice), Rangers, Yankees (also twice), and Padres. One of the members had the screen name "Oscargamble'sfroinalid". I'm guessing he took that name after seeing that card. He must be very sad today. RIP. Later
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Right, by a factor based on win totals. So the 15th best player in a 66 win season, for instance, gets 3/4 of the point total that the same rank player gets from an 88 win season. 60 would yield 2/3 of 90, etc. I think that was a similar issue with win shares. A player who had a good year on an otherwise lousy team would get more win shares than a player having the same year with a better team. Or was that true? OE: Now that I read that, maybe win shares had the opposite effect. Or am I getting confused? Maybe that's why I still like counting stats, and the newer slash line numbers. Later

  16. Rosario considers Reyes his friend and mentor. Good move from that standpoint. I'm not sure whether Cecchini can hit or Reynolds can field the position well enough to be the regular should Rosario falter. So I consider Reyes a good pickup should that be the case. Later

  24. I used to exchange a lot of emails with Hoch back in the day. Haven't done it for ages. Every once in a while he pops up in my FB "you might know" spot. One of these days, I might send him a friend request. A job is a job, and I can't not like him because of the team he covers. I like that story - a lot. Later
