  1. Isn't that just like ESPN to report this. It seems like they don't give much coverage (if any) to a sport unless they get a cut, either. Later
  2. They won't have to wait that long. There's another game today - 6 PM at the Astros. Later
  3. Thanks, Ben. I only have one trouble spot in the USA - a 50 mile radius in West Texas. One time, I had to ask a woman how to spell the name of her street and she said "M-a-i-n". And I barely understood that. Think I'll miss the movie. Later
  4. How was the sound? Seriously. I've seen brief clips (including the lead actor and actress in a car commercial) and I can't understand what they are saying because of their accents. I spend all day on the phone and can understand callers from all over the country, but can barely discern what I've heard from the movie. I don't want to go and find out its like that all the way through. Later
  5. Mets lose 3-2, on an RBI double by some guy named Eric Campbell. Later
  6. He's one of those players about whom you can really say "check the back of his baseball card" because that's how consistent he has been. SO, I'll say : 162 664 595 86 148 31 3 32 96 .249 .319 .472 .790 Later
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Acuna will fall like grass before the sickle. As for Berrios, he hasn't been to Bingo yet, having briefing filled in at AAA this season before being relegated back to Columbia and St. Lucie for the summer. You must be thinking of some other modestly built guy. He's listed 5'9" 154 lbs. But he will be in competition for the award with Patrick Biondi, who is listed at 5' 8", 171 lbs. Didn't someone here call him the garden gnome? Later
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Berrios = another undersized outfielder, struggling to stick at St. Lucie. A switch hitter from the interstate who Tim Tebow blew past on the depth chart last season. Does the shortest player in camp get the Quilvio Veras Award? (or is it the Fernando Vina Award?) Baseball Reference lists both of them at 5'9" but I saw both of them while they were at Binghamton and can tell you neither was taller than 5'7". They were dimensionally challenged. - - - - I'm already sick of Ronald Acuna. He was listed the top prospect in baseball by several scouting mavens (Before the next Babe Ruth came over from Japan). And I have a feeling he's going to a pain in the Mets ERA for a long time. Later
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: I almost expect to see Hyman Roth walking in the background of that shot. He was too ill. He's been dying from the same heart attack for 20 years. Later
  10. Duda to the Royals. 1 year. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/m/ae7163e8-0ecd-3d91-8656-e39b49370bc5/ss_royals-sign-free-agent-1b.html Later
  11. Biondi is listed at 5' 7" and is a collitch boy - University of Michigan. Later
  12. Molina is a once top prospect held back by (you guessed it) injuries. Hey, Hahn, Evan Roberts is the only sports reporter I know of who roots for my Nets. He even has season tickets to their games. I trust him Later
  13. Vic Sage wrote: i'm feeling it. I just get a good vibe off of The Basher. I'd rather have a hitter with that nickname, but I'll take it. Later
  14. Thanks, found one (posted late - wasn't available as late as 3/4 hour after the game) https://www.mlb.com/gameday/marlins-vs-mets/2018/02/25/533821#game_state=final,game_tab=box,game=533821 Later
  15. I didn't watch the game because I was afraid a picture of, or comment about, Derek Jeter might send me into painful spasms. (I'm still on pain meds) Now, I can't find a box score. Help! Later
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Guillorme hits one a mile to center off of Bud Norris. A legit major league pitcher that! Guillorme only has two regular season homers on his minor league record! A box score write-up I saw said it went 400 feet. OBP VS SLG . That would have been four of his singles. But I don't think he'll become homer-happy. Later
  17. Thanks. Edgy has mentioned his fielding before, so I guess this wasn't a rare occurrence. If he can hit, as long as he can keep it from going from bad through terrible to grotesque, we'll be happy. The old expression "he drives in more than he lets in" comes to mind. Later
  18. Chad Ochoseis wrote: And I field better. I don't even need to check the stats on that one. I've seen Tiajeron and I know it's true. And so do you. Not so fast, there, young Zach. How bad was it? Do we have to hide our eyes every time a ball is hit in his direction, or was it one of the usual Spring Training "high skies" incidents? (or do we want to know?) Later
  19. Had 'em all the way. David Thompson, the RBI machine. Later
  20. 41Forever wrote: He seems to imply that other players are pressuring guys not to take deals, thinking they would hurt the next round of free agents. And that would be as much of a "conspiracy to set prices" as the players claim the owners are doing. They are working outside of the CBA that was singed by both sides, and isn't that a violation of some labor laws? Later
  21. I thought all the sharks were at Mar-A-Largo. Later
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Or that he needs Tommy John surgery. He HAD TJ surgery - about 2 or 3 years ago. Last year was his first full year back after that surgery. He faded in the second half because, as his pitching coach said. "He just ran out of gas".* His pitching coach last year? Dave Eiland. I think its reasonable that the Mets signed Vargas because of Eiland's recommendation. I also think that because he (hopefully) won't have to start more than, say, 20-25 games, he'll stay strong and be a positive contributor to the team. And having that second lefty in the bullpen won't hurt, either. I like this signing. Later * Heard this on WFAN today.
  23. No Cards, so the third one must be a stuffed animal. Who he? Later
  24. The ACME Market in Purchase, NY did something today that I've never seen in a supermarket. The had a "Lover's Lane". It was one checkout line for people who were only buying Valentine's Day things, such as flowers, candy, stuffed animals and cards. Clever help for those last minute gift buyers. Later
  25. Edgy MD wrote: Guys playing outside their usual assignments always makes a game fun and interesting and memorable, with the potential for unexpected heroism or expected disaster riding on every pitch. Reyes in center, Carter at third, d'Arnaud at second, old Rusty in the outfield, Hundley in the outfield. Emergency catchers! Fat guys batting leadoff! Relief pitchers at the plate! Defensive tackles running with the football! Seven and a half foot centers chucking up a three! Soccer goalltenders taking a turn in a penalty kick shootout! Likely disaster, but possible heroism! Brace yourself for fun! That's why you put the player with the strongest arm out there. When he misjudges a fly ball, at least he can hold the batter to a double. (I first heard that said about Oscar Gamble. RIP, Oscar.) Later
