They'd play for tuna but the Wilpons keep ignoring their letters. Marnie (under the bed cat) says the hell with them she'll play for the Pirates and I'm about to let her Can one of them manage? Later
  2. I just sent a picture of a broom to a virulent YLDB who liked to tease me about the Mets when we worked together. She has since moved to north-central Connecticut, right near the Mass. line. So I also asked her how much she likes watching sports news as covered by stations in Sawks country. I'll enjoy her answer. Schadenfreude, baby. Later

He has pitched two good games since joining the organization, but I've noticed he has made an error in each game. Red flag? Small sample size? Sure. I recall that Juan Legares, who had an excellent glove, got the label of bad fielder because one scout saw him have one bad game on a very windy day. And that label propagated through the scouting reports (because that was probably the only scout who had seen him) until he proved he didn't deserve it. I'm just a casual observer, but if I were an opponent, I try bunting on him, just to see what happens. Later
  5. bmfc1 wrote: Swarzak has finally been pitching well... oh wait, he went on the DL today with a shoulder inflammation issue. Jacob "Match to a" Rahme is back, he of the 8.00 ERA. That's the kind of ERA that makes opposing batters drool with anticipation. I hope that makes the bat so slippery they can't grip it well. Later
  6. This year's #1 Jarred Kelenic is struggling on the interstate after his promotion to Kingsport, but has been improving lately. But Keith Law has been impressed with last year's #1 (#2?) Mark Vientos, who was drafted as a shortstop. From a recent poscast: Nick: I know you were a fan of Mark Vientos coming into the draft last year. He is having a solid year so far in the Appy League. What type of player do you see him developing into? Is he a solid defender at 3B? Keith Law: Small sample so far but I’m thrilled to see him showing some power too. Solid defender at third trending up. Later
  7. Andujar's home run that broke up the no-hitter made at least one Rex Sox fan happy - $100 million worth of happy. https://www.yahoo.com/news/yankees-third-baseman-miguel-andujar-163641357.html Later

  9. The only other opponent to earn Utley -like status was Roger, the fat coward, bat-tossing, motherfucker, Clemens for a dangerous act that should have gone punished. This wasn't even close. It was solid, hard-nosed, old school baseball we sometimes wish the Mets would play. Later

  11. The Red Stockings just put up an 8 spot and now lead 10 - 4. Cee Cee was pulled after three (he's on a pitch count???? ) and the damage was done to the MFY bullpen. Later
  12. Edgy MD wrote: MFS62 wrote: Benching McNeil seems to contradict when he says he wants done. Come on. McNeil will get plenty of opportunities. And if he succeeds, he'll get even more. Hope you're right. I hope he plays so well that it will be impossible to take him out of the lineup. I'm still recovering from TC who I used to (hyperbolically) say would have rather disemboweled himself with a rusty can opener than play a rookie over a veteran, so you see my concern. We're on the same page. Later

  14. Evan Roberts (WFAN) is talking about him. He said the other day, when talking about the Mets off season plans to spend money, that they wouldn't go for a Harper or Machado but would go for second tier players. He mentioned Murphy and said he'd be "perfect" because they could play up the "Bringing a hero home" angle rather than (I paraphrase) making a major on-field impact. His tone sounded somewhere between sarcastic and resigned. As long as he could recover most of his skills, I wouldn't object to having him back. I just wouldn't want him to be the jewel in the off-season crown. Later

But not over yesterday's lineup. Point taken. I had read that he had "improved" VS lefties, but had not seen the numbers. OE: Then again, check out Mickey's quote in the bottom of this article: https://nypost.com/2018/08/01/what-is-still-on-the-line-for-the-mets-in-this-lost-season/ t’ll be on the rookie skipper Callaway, who has two years left on his contract but already has seen the departure of the man who hired him, Sandy Alderson, to ensure this team doesn’t fully pack it in. He has seen Michael Conforto rediscover himself in the second half, he dropped the slumping Brandon Nimmo to the sixth spot in Wednesday’s lineup, and he praised rookie Jeff McNeil for hanging with Nats reliever Ryan Madson in a nine-pitch strikeout. “You want these young players to continue to make adjustments,” Callaway said. “To battle like McNeil. Baseball played the right way by young players that are getting a chance up at the major league level.” Benching McNeil seems to contradict when he says he wants done. Later
  16. d'Kong76 wrote: This is just silly. Look at it this way; if tomorrow's headline was Mets Fire Callaway, Cite McNeil Non-Start in Wednesday Matinee, you'd laugh your ass off. No. Of course not. They are at the point that the long term development of players should be put above any one game. There should be many personnel evaluations made between now and the end of the season. His minor league splits showed he is not totally overmatched by lefties, so let's find out how he does at the major league level to see if he can be an every day player or just a platoon piece. I liken it (for all you Jets fans out there) to last Year's Jets situation where the fans wanted to see what the young quarterbacks could do but the coach kept putting in the experienced guy because he felt winning (and saving his job) seemed to be more important than player development. The McNeil decision is not THE reason, but to me it is the last straw on top of a pile of many decisions we have questioned in IGTs this year. I'm not sure if any other manager could turn this team around. But I'd like to see someone else get a chance. Later
  17. 41Forever wrote: I can almost -- almost -- see the logic in not starting McNeil in a game against Max Scherzer. But, a day after his first home run, we're making him sit against Tommy Milone? I couldn't believe this when I heard he wasn't in the starting lineup. McNeil was the hottest hitting prospect ready for promotion. He plays the same position as Cabrera, who was traded away. He had hit his first major league home run the night before. He wasn't going to face Cy Fucking Young. The pitcher he would face was closer to Loretta Young. Why not see what he can do? There was no logic to keeping him out of the starting lineup unless he was injured. And, since he pinch hit later in the game, I'm guessing he was healthy enough to play. I don't recall whether I've chimed in on any Callaway threads yet. But now I'll say it. Fire his ass. Later
  18. I will go on record now that there should be no correlation between the title of this thread and the results of last night's game. News stories trying to talking about last night's game in that kind of perspective (gloom and doom for the future) are just taking a cheap shot. OE: Carrying Lefty's fire analogy onward, maybe last night's game will be the spark the Wilpons need to get them going to help the team. Later
