  3. Great news! I can't get WOR up here, and WCBS comes in loud and strong. LAter
  4. https://www.milb.com/milb/news/jarred-kelenic-coming-on-strong-with-kingsport-mets/c-291664878 -After a slow start at Kingsport, Kelenic has hit in 11 of his past 12, including 7 in a row. -Hitting 10-27 (.370) off LHP. -Hit a homer last night, got plunked the next time up ( which led to ejections and a dustup) then stole 2nd off the new pitcher. 9. (I'm the last person who should be telling an age joke, but.. ) I thought Julio Franco's birth certificate was destroyed when somebody dropped the stone tablet. Later

  11. Large exhale. Thanks. And Shervyen Newton who replaced him looks like a good prospect, too. Kelenic had 4 hits in the doubleheader and is up to the .230s after spending a lot of time on the interstsate. That Kingsport team has a lot of good young players. Later
  12. Kingsport played a double header yesterday, and Luis Santana, their cleanup hitter (and my adoptee), did not play in either game. I don't know if he's hurt or got promoted. If promoted, he would go to Columbia, but they did not play yesterday. Later
  13. Robert Gsellman has fallen from the 151st-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th (tied again) I wonder how he will do when the relief pitcher rankings come out. Looking at that list, I guess 227 is his lowest ranking. Later

  16. The Las Vegas tragic number nonetheless fell to 1 as the first-place El Paso Chihuahuas ran their winning streak to 7 games, looking to clinch their division running away. I'll always think of them as the El Paso Sun Kings. https://elpasodiabloshistory.weebly.com/sun-kings.html That 1963 team was a powerhouse. Later
  17. Centerfield wrote: When I saw this reply I was hoping to hear that the Marlins had won this game. Annoying. I still their 22 game losing streak in September will drop them out of the playoffs completely. Miami had the bases loaded and nobody out in extras and the MFYs played the shift. Not one of the next three batters either tried to hit the other way or even bunt. And the announcers said one of those batters, while hitting around .160, had "great speed". Naturally, he swung from the heels. The second out of the inning was a nice play be Torres. He backhanded a grounder and made a quick sidearm throw to the plate to nail the runner. They did not score. Yech! Later
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Was a big fan of the TV show way back when. Didn't particularly like the first movie and haven't revisited since. I've only seen number 2, which people said wasn't good. But I had seen the trailer for this and had also read how Tom Cruise had injured himself doing one of the stunts. I hadn't known he does most of them himself. So I was curious. It turns out I was pleasantly surprised. This was one of the best action-adventure movies I have seen in a long time. From one danger to another, it reminded me of the old serial films and later, the Indiana Jones movies, in which Spielberg tried to recapture the serial film "feel". And, yes, the scene where he got hurt was pretty obvious. Edgy's right. Plot? Meh. And at times I had a tough time separating the good guys from the bad guys because some of the actors looked alike at quick glance. But who cares? Its a fun ride. Later

  20. “No one loves the numbers more than I do, but numbers don’t measure everything, especially when it comes to evaluating defense. And in the end, I am going to trust Buck Showalter’s eyes more than a set of statistics devised by someone who never played the game.” Tim Kurkjian “To not look at the data is foolish, but to look at the data as having all the answers is even more foolish. It is a collision of new-school statistics and statisticians against old-school managers, coaches, and instructors. Neither side is right, neither is wrong; there is so much to be gained from listening to both sides.” Tim Kurkjian Here are quotes where he said that you have to look beyond the numbers, yet the other night he used numbers to say Jake doesn't deserve the Cy Young Award. I've heard him say similar things before, and that got me angry. He is a respected baseball reporter, but maybe his senses have been dulled by working at ESPN too long. You're right. If I called him any name, it should have been hypocrite. Later
