  5. They may have found the flaw in his delivery - that he actually releases the ball towards home plate. Later
  6. Phew! When I saw the title of the thread, I thought they'd resurrected the managerial career of Bill Plummer. But, if his career minor league avg. is .221 and he hit .280 last year, maybe he did turn the corner. Later
  7. Some really good ones in this group. Later
  8. Baseball Prospectus Mets Top 10: 1 Francisco Álvarez, C 2 Brett Baty, 3B/OF 3 Ronny Mauricio, SS 4 Mark Vientos, 3B/OF 5 Matt Allan, RHP 6 J.T. Ginn, RHP 7 Khalil Lee, OF 8 Alex Ramirez, OF 9 Calvin Ziegler, RHP 10 Hayden Senger, C Senger hit well for the first half of the season , then tapered off. For a young catcher, it is tough to determine whether it was from his workload or if the pitchers found out his weakness. Later
  9. Bill Virdon 90 https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/Pirates-Bill-Virdon-Astros-manager-dead-obit-16645930.phphttps://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/Pirates-Bill-Virdon-Astros-manager-dead-obit-16645930.php I remember him as a great defensive centerfielder for the 1960 Pirates. Hadn't realized he was the winningest Houston manager. RIP, "Quail" Later
  10. So, according to Edgy's projected 2022 roster there are now 3 open spots. Has anyone read whether the Mets are looking to fill any of those spots in the Rule V draft? Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with someone who is half prepared. I implore you to reconsider this tack of engagement. You're right. He lowered the bar when he said "your speed" and I responded. I shouldn't have done that. Later
  12. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=81595 time=1637626885 user_id=68] Oh. Maybe you need something more analogous, closer to home, your speed. So let's limit the criteria once again. Dave Kingman was a better baseball player than Jeff Kent was because Kingman hit more HR's than Kent did.
  13. You were wrong. R.I.F. Later
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, but I think it should go without saying that we should vote for the criteria we believe in, rather than the criteria we think Joe Morgan believed in. Or to use criteria that would piss Barry Bonds off. Throughout the history of hall of fame voting, voters have voted based on their own criteria. For example - What about all the players who didn't receive a vote because some voters felt a player shouldn't make it on their first year of eligibility? Since this is a fun place and a totally hypothetical thread (none of have a vote, do they?) I decided to have fun with it. I also said Ramirez gets my vote because he's my Homie. When you said "I think it should go without saying" in your post, you were using personalized criteria, weren't you? Allow us to do that , too. And batmag's response to mine is just too plain stupid for an intelligent response. Later
  15. Depends on how you measure. And I explained my criteria. Jeff Kent: .290-377-1522 Joe Morgan .271-268-1133 Looking at the all around game, of course Morgan was better. But when you limit the criteria, comparisons can be made. And if the vote had been taken , say, 20 years ago(before analytics) many voters might have put Kent before Morgan. Later
  16. Since Morgan has said he doesn't believe in Analytics, I used old fashioned "counting stats" Morgan would understand to support my vote. I hoisted him by his own petard. And, the second part of my reason is equally important to me - it would really piss off Barry Bonds if Kent got in and he didn't. https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/kents-relationship-bonds-we-werent-friendshttps://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/kents-relationship-bonds-we-werent-friends Later
  17. My votes go to: Ortiz - Fame is more than just numbers Helton - numbers, in case you don't have fame Manny (my homie from the Heights) Kent - Superior (.290-377-1522) to Joe Morgan (.271-268-1133) and it would piss off Barry Bonds Vizquel - if Mazeroski is in because of his great glove, then Omar deserves to be in, too. Wagner - very effective throughout his entire long career. Later
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Most of these guys played after I stopped paying close attention, so I can't really say for sure. I might just go with Ortiz. I'm definitely opposed to Bonds, Clemens, and Sosa. They're on my no-vote list. And there's one more. Even Carrie Underwood knew about A-Rod and that He Cheats. enjoy ______________________________________________________________________________ Right now he's probably romancing some baseball Annie And she's probably getting frisky Right now, he's probably wishing That he didn't have those shots 'Cause his lovin' has been risky Right now, he's probably up behind her With a fungo Cause his own “bat” don't work Why? 19. =ashie62 post_id=81507 time=1637441702 user_id=90] Add MFS to the 40.
  20. Also (from SNY): In addition, RHP Dedniel Nunez was returned to the Mets and added to the Triple-A Syracuse roster. Nunez, 25, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in last year's Rule 5 Draft, but he underwent Tommy John Surgery in March and missed the entire season, allowing him to return to the Mets. He will not count against the 40 man roster. Later
  21. Eligibility for the Rule V draft is based on a combination of age at which the player signed and how many years they have spent in the minors since they signed. If the player exceeds those limits, they must be added to the 40 man roster or risk being lost in the Rule V Draft. Later
  22. Maybe not for the Mets, but he said something we've been saying for years: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/11/16/carlos-correa-shortstop-derek-jeter-gold-glove/6401374001/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/11/16/carlos-correa-shortstop-derek-jeter-gold-glove/6401374001/ Derek Jeter, how many Gold Gloves did he win?," Correa asked. "Five, I think he won. ... Derek Jeter didn't deserve any." This may not go over well with MFY fans, since they are interested in signing a free agent shortstop. With Gleyber Torres moving back to second base, the Yankees are expected to try to sign one one of the big-name shortstops. Earlier today, I heard Buster Olney on ESPN radio asked what he thinks about Correa's comment. He agreed and said many players of Jeter's era said similar things about Jeter's defense. Later

  24. And the converse is hiring a manager because they have similar characteristics to a past successful one as in "Let's hire Ausmus because he's from Connecticut and so was Bobby Valentine." BTW, I'd hire Brad, but not because of where he's from. Later
  25. Let's hope that draft pick turns into something better than a mediocre middle infielder. At least they didn't also lose LeRoy Stanton, Francisco Estrada and Don Rose this time. Later
