  1. The Arizona Fall League rosters have been announced. Seven Mets are scheduled to play for the Salt River team - Brett Baty 3B/OF (No. 2/MLB No. 45); Carlos Cortes, OF (No. 10); Hayden Senger, C (No. 21); Garrison Bryant, RHP; Connor Grey, RHP; Colin Holderman, NYM; Brian Metoyer, RHP; Wilmer Reyes, INF Baty really impressed with the bat at High-A Brooklyn and then was above average as a 21-year-old at Double-A, so the Fall League will offer a good third test for him in 2021. Watch out for how he's used in Arizona; Baty started to get looks in left field this season, and the AFL is always another chance to work on that versatility. Cortes and Senger are opposite types of prospects. The former is a good hitter who faces questions in the field. The latter is a promising defensive catcher with something to prove with the bat. 4. At some point her abilities will get her through the glass ceiling, so why shouldn't it be the Mets who allow her to be the first to crack it? Yes, there have been examples of Peter principle in the past, especially when good/ loved players become bad managers, but there have been other examples of people succeeding. I think she can succeed. She's my "one other name" and I'll stick to it. Later

  7. Kim Ng - making a statement that harassment will no longer be tolerated. She has succeeded at every increasingly important front office position she has earned. Later
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Those are my conversations. In these conversations, the art and science of athletic personnel management becomes the map for a full and meaningful life. So you're saying we should hire E? First, we should hire James Earl Jones to record Edgy's post in his stentorian voice, so it may be preserved for all eternity. After that, the selection of a manager pales by comparison. Later

  10. 'cause umpire "Country" Joe West announced his retirement today. He hung in long enough to take the record for most MLB games umpired away from Hall of Fame ump Bill Klem. Later
  11. =nymr83 post_id=79234 time=1633375986 user_id=54] Trevor Hoffman was popular I think? and John Franco - as much for baseball as for being a local who was prominently involved with local charities and the FDNY

(Casablanca reference) But the more I think about it, someone with managerial experience at the major league level might be what they need. Time to bring John Gibbons home. Later
  13. So, with people returning from the 60 day IL and one drug suspension, the roster will have to be reduced by nine players by the date of the Rule V Draft (Or whatever Jazzy new marketing name they can give it by then). And additional spots will have to be opened up to protect some prospects who aren't on the 40 man roster yet. (Mark Vientos comes to mind) With so many players eligible for free agency (expiring long term and one year contracts) this might not be a problem. Later
  14. I predicted the White Sox winning it all in March in the "Predict the Mets" thread and there's no reason to change that now. As for the details: Wild Cards: Red Sox over Yanks; Cardinals over LA ALDS: Red Sox over Rays; White Sox over Astros NLDS: Cards over SF; Brewers over Braves ALCS: White Sox over Red Sox NLCS: Brewers over Cards World Series White Sox in 6 games Later

  17. =G-Fafif post_id=79063 time=1633145072 user_id=55] It's a Fox game, starting at 7:15, ending too soon in the season-ending sense and not soon enough in the Fox sense.
  18. Maybe they should try Megill as a position player. He can swing the bat. (trying to wake up the board) Later
  19. Or Dean Chance. Or Tinker or Evers. (yeah, I know. T'wasn't him.) Later

  21. =Fman99 post_id=79006 time=1633089099 user_id=86] Headed back tonight for my final game of the 2021 season. It'll be fun to attend a fall game, usually these guys are done Labor Day weekend. Bringing Fboy and his lady friend and then presumably sitting by myself (too chilly for my wife & daughter to want to come).
  22. Interesting list, Edgy.(especially on short notice) Gardenhire and Gibbons have Mets history, major league managerial experience and would be very by-the-book choices. R.A. Dickey would be an interesting out-of-the-box choice and a breath of fresh (Himalayan) air. Backman has been mentioned for the job for years and has had support from the fans who remember his pugnacious playing style. I wonder if Edgardo Alfonso would take the job if offered. Later
  23. The fans can take some good memories away from this game to keep them warm over the Winter. Later

Now I have something else in common with those guys. A Raiders QB threw a 57 yard "Hail Mary" pass with less than a minute to go. It bounced off three Jets defenders and fell into the hands of Warren Wells, who was lying on his back in the end zone, for the winning touchdown. I punched a concrete wall and shouted a loud obscenity. It chipped the stone on my college ring, too. I still wear the ring, as a reminder about self control. Later
  25. Gene Mauch kept his job after the 1964 late season collapse of the Phillies, so you never know. Later
