  1. =G-Fafif post_id=91758 time=1652127374 user_id=55] leasing out my heart to T#m Gl@v!ne
  2. When the Brooklyn Dodgers left town, I could not bring myself to root for the team from the Bronx. My best friend in high school rooted for the Pirates and I followed them through that sweet 1960 World Series victory over the MFYs. Then, there were rumors that the Reds were going to move to New York bringing National League baseball back here, so I rooted for them, not knowing that they would reach the World Series in 1961. But as soon as the Mets were born, I followed them, from the expansion draft to today. Later
  3. If you're going to own a Papelbon, it might as well be a Jonathan. Later
  4. Must have been the dreaded pitch count limit for Ziegler. He also walked four. Thanks. Later
  5. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=91579 time=1651934172 user_id=119] Went to Friday night's game, and the St. Lucie team won again. Alex Ramirez, who I think was in some of the top 100 prospect lists, looks like the real deal. Would not be surprised to see him bumped up to Coney Island before too long.

  7. =Fman99 post_id=91493 time=1651802789 user_id=86] What an amazing comeback. All thanks to Aerosmith, I think we can agree.
  8. It looks like the actress who appears in the commercial for a depression medication also appears in the Little Caesars Pizza commercial. If my only choice was to eat Little Caesars Pizza, I'd be depressed, too. Later
  9. =Fman99 post_id=91378 time=1651752773 user_id=86] Is Aerosmith the United States' all time greatest classic rock band? I think they may be.
  10. Tax guy + hijinks plot reminds me of this book(IIRC based in England) and movie (USA): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mating_Game_%28film%29https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mating_Game_(film) I read the book and thought it was cute. Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: There's an outside, outside chance we'll get a pitcher batting this game! That would be a memorable once-in-a-season moment in a game we'd like to forget. Later
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Guillorme is kind of taking plate appearances from Smith here, isn't he? Last night I was thinking of which current Mets player would one day be a major league manager, and Guillorme was the one I settled on. This isn't based on any specific trait you could point to, but Buck seems to like him and maybe sees a little bit of himself in him - scrappy guy with a good baseball mind. Or maybe not. Back to the game. Later
  13. Willets Point wrote: Vig Sage, previously known as Big Ralph and Norrin Radd, was one of the CPF greats! The term "A gentleman and a scholar" fit him nicely. Later
  14. I think Charlie Morton is older than I am. Somewhere there's a baseball card picture of him that gets older each year while he doesn't age. You watch him pitch and think you could just grab a bat and get a hit off him. Then you find yourself carrying that bat back to the dugout. Not today, old guy! LFGM. Later
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Jankowski does not have options. When I saw Roger_that's comment I immediately went to your roster thread* to check and answer. Some players had a blank in their status notes, Jankowski had a "0". I wasn't sure what the difference is. Thanks. * = a very trusted source Later
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: He's an ex-agent, so not currently an agent of anyone. Newsday has a quote from Van Wegenen today, identifying him as Cano's current agent, as COO of Roc Nation sports: https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/robinson-cano-dfa-mets-roster-cuts-q7dizz3dhttps://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/robinson-cano-dfa-mets-roster-cuts-q7dizz3d Thank you. 17. Brodie Van Wagenen is Cano's agent. Is he the agent of any other current Mets, or is the BVW era finally over? Later
  18. Where do those of us who pitched a fit at signing a Yankees castoff in the first place go to gloat and scream "I told yuz so!"? Asking for myself. They didn't sign him. The Mets fans screamed because they traded "can't miss" prospect Jared Kelenic for him. But those screams have so far just been snickers, because Kelenic has hit .175 in over 400 major league at-bats since the trade. Later
  19. Mets management is making intelligent (baseball-based) decisions for a change. Later
  20. I'm adopting 19 year old Canadian right handed starting pitcher Calvin Ziegler. He was drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2021 Amateur draft. He didn't play last year but has started off his professional this year at St. Lucie (low A). In four games he has pitched 14 2/3 innings. Maybe opposing hitters are intimidated by his 160 kilometers per hour fastball speed. Maybe Poutine really is the breakfast of champions. Whatever the reason, he has given up just five hits and struck out twenty-six batters (not a misprint) in those 14 2/3 inings. Welcome to the family, Cal. Later
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Trevor Bauer has been suspended without pay for the next two years by MLB, pending appeal. His administrative leave, which was with pay, does not count as time served. Wow! Is there any precedent for something like this? Not sure. When (IIRC)Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays were "out of baseball" for their association with a casino, was that considered a suspension? Later
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Don't swing at the first piece of shit down by five in the ninth, Starling. This is only his eleventh year in the majors. Give him time. He'll learn. Righhhhhhttt. Later
  23. Interesting graphic from a few minutes ago: other than a strike season, the Cards haven't had back to back losing seasons in 63 years. Wow. Had no idea about that. That's because they are supported by the (self proclaimed) "best baseball fans in the world". Any time I hear an announcer say that BS I want to scream at the TV set. Later
  24. I think he's losing his grip, but not in the psychological way. He's losing it because he can't use the sticky stuff any more. And that goo was the glue that held his pitching repertoire together. His numbers will more closely resemble those in the second half of last season, after the stuff was banned. 4.78 ERA, 1.38 WHIP in 128 IP this year Later
  25. The week's recap wouldn't be complete without an "Angel Hernandez is still doing it" story: https://nypost.com/2022/04/24/kyle-schwarber-loses-it-on-angel-hernandez-after-strike-out/?fbclid=IwAR1x_t1C3FSAAPujyqOYRVk8jrvRjC4ZXR3jkXVrBDJtgIUMKKj1uaG7-_Yhttps://nypost.com/2022/04/24/kyle-schwarber-loses-it-on-angel-hernandez-after-strike-out/?fbclid=IwAR1x_t1C3FSAAPujyqOYRVk8jrvRjC4ZXR3jkXVrBDJtgIUMKKj1uaG7-_Y Later
