  1. IIRC, a You Be the Ump- type question used to be a regular feature on one of the old baseball mags. Baseball Digest? OE: The one in BD was a rules interpretation ("If a batted ball hits a penguin in the outfield, is the batter out?") type of quiz, not interactive. Later
  2. There will be no American-born Black players on either team. Interesting article: https://www.thestate.com/news/nation-world/national/article267882102.htmlhttps://www.thestate.com/news/nation-world/national/article267882102.html Later
  3. I'm starting to get schpilkes. (A tingling feeling) Or, maybe its just gas. Later
  4. Hope some of you made it to the http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2022/10/25/rainy-day-parade/Elimination Day Parade. A great time was had by all! I laughed and cried. Later
  5. Since I'm a cat lover I'm a softie for stuff like this. Kinda silly, but it was cute. I gave it 3 1/2. Later
  6. That kind of thing feeds the stereotype around the country of "rude New Yorkers". Not a good look. (Not that he doesn't deserve it) Later
  7. All SIT! And now we'll be inundated with articles speculating whether Judge will re-sign with the MFYs. And almost the same number of articles saying the Mets should sign him. At least it keeps the reporters in a job producing a diarrhea of words and a constipation of ideas. Later
  8. If I had a choice, I'd rather fix an unsatisfactory (I'm not sure it's broken) playoff system than implement many of Manfred's recent "fixes" to the game itself.(e.g.- ghost runner, universal DH) But after reading some of the solutions here, I'm not sure which, if any of them, I would pick. Later
  9. The same paying customers who booed Steinbrenner at ceremonies honoring Paul O'Neill and Derek Jeter are sick and tired of the Yankees saying they willingly signed up to be judged in October, only to repeatedly fail in October. I would have booed O'Neil and Jeter, too. Later
  10. I always refer to him by his complete name. It was a line in a song parody of Taking Care of Business I wrote about that Subway series. "You gotta' give them credit They really won that sucker Even that fat coward, bat tossing, motherf**ker." Later
  11. If I can't root for our 1962 National League expansion team, I'll root for the other one. Later
  12. Manny Machado homered for the Padres. Now 8-4 in the 7th. Later
  13. =G-Fafif post_id=111604 time=1666221818 user_id=55] Houston vs MFYs. Yay?
  14. Pads put up a five spot and now lead 7-4 after five. Later
  15. The escalation of salaries over the years would skew those numbers. A win per 1969 dollar can't be compared to a win per 2022 dollar. The formula would need a smoothing factor to accommodate those differences to be valid. And even then I'm not sure if it is a true measure of how good a GM was. Some may have built an organization with better drafting or changed the "culture" that his successor(s) inherited. Or there may be other factors. But I have no time to be drawn down the rabbit hole to figure them out. OE: It looks like Ceetar came up with other valid points as we cross-posted. Later
  16. 3-0- Pfugging Phills in the top of the second, and they're still batting. First and third with one out. Later
  17. Aaron Hicks back on the IL. Like the swallows going back to Capistrano- he goes back there every year. Later
  18. It's the most wonderful time of the year With ol' Ben Grimm qvelling Back page headlines he's telling It's the most wonderful time of the year It's the hap-happiest season of all With those strikeouts and mound meetings When teams rise and fall It's the hap-happiest season of all There'll be manager roasting Key errors for toasting And rooks in the big show. There'll be game winning stories Compared to the glories of the Pennant races long, long ago. It's the most wonderful time of the year There'll be much pennant blowing And votes will be glowing When selections we fear Might be the cover of the year It's the most wonderful time of the year With ol' Ben Grimm qvelling Back page headlines he's telling It's the most wonderful time of the year It's the most wonderful time Yes the most wonderful time Oh the most wonderful time Of the year Later
  19. =metsmarathon post_id=111583 time=1666203905 user_id=83] also, while i could see chicago wanting to move on from abreu, i also would expect them to extend him the QO, which would of course sour me further.
  20. His age and declining production make me wary of him. I'm not sure what his incremental value would be over Venitos. Of course, he could turnout to be another DH who stays consistent through 35-40 and this was a blip. But I'd prefer not to have to find out. Later
  21. He had surgery to repair his inured ankle, and will be ready for Spring Training. https://metsmerizedonline.com/francisco-alvarez-ankle-surgery/https://metsmerizedonline.com/francisco-alvarez-ankle-surgery/ Later
  22. 5-1 bottom of the 8th. Ima gonna' hurl. Later
  23. 4-0 MFYs in the second. 3 run homer by Stanton in the first. And a pressure-off, pile-on HR by Judge in the second. Later
  24. Why should we change the system if we don't like the result? A (hopefully) Cleveland / San Diego series? Still baseball. As Batmags said, a game seven has its own excitement, no matter which teams are involved. And if some network execs and advertisers (and bookies)don't like that, tough crap. And under the same system, it might be a NY(Mets)/LA(Angels) series next year. Who knows? And that's why it doesn't have to change. Later
  25. Impresive. Is anyone nominating you to be the next head of the National Archives? (the search is currently on) I'd vote for you. Later
