Buster Olney reporting the Rangers may also be interested in trading for Jim McCann to catch DeGrom. Even if the Mets would have to kick in part of his salary, it might be addition by subtraction. Any other Mets rumors worth noting? Later

I remember the ups of watching him pitch and the downs of him not being able to pitch. But remembering those times when he couldn't pitch softens this blow. But that lack of run support - the fact that he didn't lose it in the clubhouse and start breaking furniture or teammates is a testimony to how much of a gentleman he was. Later

I had a nice discussion with Gaylord from a box seat next to the Cleveland dugout at YS I. We talked about whether the players talk about teammates who are no longer with the club. I wanted to know whether any of the Indian players were still in contact with Tony Horton, who suffered a nervous breakdown and never returned to baseball. Gaylord said he hadn't heard any of Tony's teammates mention him, and he went on to talk about the pressure major leaguers encounter, and the lack of psychological counseling MLB should provide. He didn't know me from Adam, but we talked about ten minutes before he was called away to do a pre-game with Bill White. When I saw white, I told Gaylord the White had mentioned to Phil Rizzuto the night before that Perry may have doctored the ball. Gaylord grinned broadly, waked over to White and yelled, "Hey White! I heard what you said about me last light". He gave me a wink and then shook Bill's hand. RIP Later

Something Mets fans have been seemingly waiting for since the Mets traded for Francisco Lindor and signed him long-term. Mauricio was at shortstop on Tuesday night, however, he played the previous three games at third base.

That is the most encouraging news I've heard about Allen. I hope that means they know that he's on his way to recovering from TJ surgery. Any reason for waiting so long to perform the surgery? Seems like they could have done it a few weeks ago and gotten the jump on the recovery period. I'm not a Doctor but my mother aways wanted me to be one. The only thing I can think of is he might have re-inured it by playing in the world series and they had to wait for swelling to go down before they could operate. And I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express, either. Later

Should Jake's injury history be a negative factor for teams interested in signing him? (From an SNY article found on Yahoo/sports). For that, we turned to Deepak Chona, MD, founder of SportsMedAnalytics and a Stanford and Harvard-trained orthopedic sports surgeon who does not personally treat deGrom. "DeGrom has missed substantial time in recent years, but his injuries don't necessarily indicate an anatomic weak point that should make us think he's injury-prone," said Chona. "It's unlikely that a stress reaction in his scapula is related to the elbow inflammation that sidelined him previously. Furthermore, both of these injuries generally heal well without any lingering performance or durability impacts. "Could he get hurt again? Yes, absolutely. The forces of throwing a fastball put the shoulder and elbow at elevated risk in every pitcher. The incremental value of each additional inning pitched (over an average pitcher's total) is something the number crunchers working or Cohen could determine. Brand value is more difficult. IIRC, one of the LA pitchers tried to do it.(It may have been Fernando Valenzuela) At contract negotiation time, his agent presented the average home attendance in games he pitched VS the rest of the starters. They showed an increase in the thousands, which they translated into dollars earned by the club. I got him a healthy raise. I'd guess modern pitchers could use that as a model if that is their negotiation approach. Later. -
