  1. =G-Fafif post_id=108084 time=1663712565 user_id=55] Drew Smith returns. Tommy Hunter is on the IL
  2. Can you please split this out to a different thread? I think turning the death of a Hall of Famer into a trivia question is a lack of respect for the dead. Let's keep this thread for remembering the players. Thank you. Later
  3. =Ceetar post_id=108053 time=1663695630 user_id=102] we were managed by the worst manager in Mets history at the time,
  4. Baseball reference says he's a nephew of Andy Ashby, a major league pitcher from 1991 to 2003, but doesn't mention if he's related to Alan. Later
  5. Francisco had seven hits with a pair of home runs in 20 at-bats in his first full series since an ankle injury sidelined him in late August. Later
  6. Before Max, the last pitcher to win his 200th game with the Mets was Bartolo Colon. I didn't remember that. Later
  7. Willets Point wrote: Kind of looks like an office party. Who took the temp into the copier room? Later
  8. NTC? Later
  9. From SNY Pitchers Max Scherzer and Tylor Megill were reinstated from the injured list on Monday. Scherzer will start Monday's game against the Brewers, Megill will be a bullpen addition. In corresponding moves the Mets optioned pitchers Stephen Nogosek and Alex Claudio to Triple-A Syracuse. Later
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: After all, if a save falls in the forest but you're not there to feel the gut-kick, can we be sure that it even happened? Of course it does. It will show in the next day's box scores, will be counted in baseball-reference and discussed endlessly (about whether there is something called clutch or choke) wherever baseball fans meet. There are no box scores in the forest. Later
  11. =Fman99 post_id=107901 time=1663614580 user_id=86] I noticed it again in that YT video above. You never saw a guy more eager to untuck his shirt at the end of a game than Big Dan
  12. I remember when cinching celebrations were spontaneously rowdy, involving copious quantities of bubbly alcoholic beverages in bottles. Now, with so many levels of clinching before the championship, I guess it has been diluted. Nehi Orange and sheet cake seems to sum the appropriate level of enthusiasm. Whatever the level of enthusiasm, win the game first. Later
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: =MFS62 post_id=107880 time=1663605213 user_id=60] In those days that was only two or three weeks to the end of the regular season. June 16????
  14. In those days that was only two or three weeks to the end of the regular season. Grote was batting .317 on that day. While that was his best BA year, he must have gone into a horrendous slump at the end of the year. He finished at .282. Later
  15. There are two ways to look at his recent performance: He's getting hot at the right moment, or A blind dog hits an occasional fire hydrant. I'm still not sure which it is, but I hope he can keep it going. Later
  16. Francisco is finally off the AAA interstate. His 2-4 (with a homer and 5 RBI today) put his BA at an even .200. Later
  17. RIP. Later

  19. If you were asked to name a utility infielder in 1963, Ted came to mind pretty quickly. RIP Later
  20. If you had told me in Spring Training that those would be the #'s 5, 6 and 7 in the lineup down the home stretch in September, I would have bet against it. And its time for McCann to start getting his shit together because Nido is passing him on the depth chart. Later
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: Yeah, Torres was kind of skittish about injuries to back stops, even while he was playing. It's why he was sometimes referred to as the Chicken Catcher Torre. Thank you, I'll be here all week OOOOHH! That was painful. Good one. Later
  22. Nido es en fuego. Later
  23. I voted Walker but then re-read your "uptick in stuff" comment and want to change to Bassett. I think Walker and Carrasco's stuff lends itself more to starting so I wouldn't use them out of the pen. But Bassett could really bring it for a few innings. Can you please edit the poll so I can change my vote? Thanks Later
  24. Another reason for not liking Torre. Thanks Later
