KC nailed it. A cryptocurrency trading company sponsoring umpires leads me to think there are opportunities for corruption. Whether true or not, it is a bad image. Later

Rafael Montero re-ups with the Astros - 3 years $34.5 million. https://metsmerizedonline.com/report-astros-sign-rp-rafael-montero-to-three-year-34-5-million-deal/https://metsmerizedonline.com/report-astros-sign-rp-rafael-montero-to-three-year-34-5-million-deal/ Later

=smg58 post_id=112797 time=1668187398 user_id=62] You can fill pages with what you think is going on inside a player's mind. But until he unequivocally turns down the best offer -- which almost never happens -- the bottom line is the bottom line.

The first one I've seen is Baseball Prospectus (paywall): 1 Francisco Álvarez, C 2 Brett Baty, 3B/OF 3 Kevin Parada, C 4 Jett Williams, SS 5 Alex Ramirez, OF 6 Blake Tidwell, RHP 7 Ronny Mauricio, SS 8 Mark Vientos, 4C * 9 Dominic Hamel, RHP 10 Calvin Ziegler, RHP Parada and Williams were drafted this year. Matt Allen, who had been carried on past top 10 lists while recovering the TJ surgery has been dropped off - for now. Later * = They had "4C" after Vientos' name. I thought it was a typo and replaced it with 1B,3B. But the more I think about it, it means he can play the four corner positions, 1B,3B, LF and RF. I changed it back.

It will be interesting to see how high (and even if) De Los Santos ranks on the Top Mets 20 prospect lists. He may have the "old for his level" label that lowers the ranking of some prospects who turned out to be just fine(e.g.- Wade Boggs). I hope that was because of the reduction of playing opportunity when the minors contracted during COVID. I think this guy can be very good. Later

"What about Aaron?" asked Powers. "Knock him down, first pitch" said Pete. "Curve him away" said Willard. "Jam him good. He'll swing at the ball a foot inside, sometimes," said Brooks. "Change up on him once every trip," I suggested. "Boys, I think Pena struck him out on a spitter", said Deal. "Good pitch" we agreed. From The Long Season by Jim Brosnan. Hard cover, Second edition. =smg58 post_id=112677 time=1668015571 user_id=62] Personally I'm for signing Judge, giving free Judge T-shirts out to every single Mets fan (in the traditional orange and blue pinstripes, naturally) and having a big parade that starts at Heyman's house and ends at Michael Kay's. But I'm not for starting a war with the Yankees, no.

Just saw that the Phillies are "odds on favorites" to sign Trea Turner if he leaves LA. https://www.audacy.com/wfan/sports/philadelphia-phillies-rumors-trea-turner-new-york-mets-los-angeles-dodgers?utm_campaign=www.audacy.com%252Fwfan&utm_content=1667944153&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_term=WFAN-AM&fbclid=IwAR0B81llC56un8FG1FJp0aAF2cmpOD__o505C_gm78NYOdirp_rQ1dppumshttps://www.audacy.com/wfan/sports/philadelphia-phillies-rumors-trea-turner-new-york-mets-los-angeles-dodgers?utm_campaign=www.audacy.com%252Fwfan&utm_content=1667944153&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_term=WFAN-AM&fbclid=IwAR0B81llC56un8FG1FJp0aAF2cmpOD__o505C_gm78NYOdirp_rQ1dppums Crap! Frayed Knot wrote: It would be like A-Rod changing positions because the incumbent is very good and well liked. ARod moved via a trade. He didn't have the same kind of say in the matter. Yes. But when he got here, A-Rod could have said "Move that other guy off short- I'm better". But he didn't.(to our knowledge) And that was my point. And of the four, if we had to pick any of them, I think Trea Turner might be ok with that. Later

Edgy MD wrote: I don't "know" you're an "iconoclast." Please don't presume to speak for me. Believing allegedly upsetting writers is a Hall of Fame quality is not iconoclasm. Neither is pretending "the HOF rule says anyone who demonstrated superior performance for the time he played deserves to be in there." It's just making an indefensible argument in an attempt to have an interesting opinion. It has nothing to do with you. It's a forum. We are all asked to back up our positions. I don't know how this isn't clear. You're right. Ten years is the minimum to be considered (eligible), not deserves. I think he deserves it because of the numbers I posted. If you didn't know the name, but just saw the numbers, would you have voted for him? Later

It would be like A-Rod changing positions because the incumbent is very good and well liked. And of the four mentioned, it seems to me that Turner would be the one most likely to do that - for the right price. Just a gut feel. Later

I stated the ten year thing because he had a short career. His career was cut short because of a degenerative illness at the age of 33. But in that time he averaged 40HR, 130 RBI, 4.9 WAR and had an OPS+ of 144. You know I'm an iconoclast. We've looked at a lot of things differently since I've been here. I would have voted for him. I would love to see Turner in a Mets uniform. He not only provides needed hitting, but also defensive flexibility. I'm not sure whether the other three would be willing to play anything other than shortstop for a new team. Later

I missed the announcement that Fisher was removed from the 40 man. Seems to me they have room now with all the relievers becoming free agents. And he's a lefty. Why not keep him there, at least until they have to finalize the roster before the Rule V Draft? In case it isn't obvious, I'm starting a "Keep Nate Fisher" movement that I hope will turn into a groundswell. Later

Everyone has been lamenting the transition of the game to "Starters go 5, bring in the bullpen and wait for someone to hit a home run". But this series has shown that the hit and run, stolen base and defense are also exciting parts of winning baseball. And fundamentals can be exciting, too. And the team that did those things won. There IS a future for the game as we knew it. Later
