  2. And, Lindor has WON the MLB Marvin Miller Man of the Year award. https://www.sny.tv/articles/francisco-lindor-marvin-miller-man-year-2022?fbclid=IwAR18o2EPUYkyEkuRQu5kPUp_LDOxH80eNg6aCgDekdQBWwtdsNw47M_wfO8https://www.sny.tv/articles/francisco-lindor-marvin-miller-man-year-2022?fbclid=IwAR18o2EPUYkyEkuRQu5kPUp_LDOxH80eNg6aCgDekdQBWwtdsNw47M_wfO8 The award is given annually to an MLB player 'whose on-field performance and contributions to his community inspire others to higher levels of achievement' Later
  3. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=112395 time=1667592529 user_id=68] Last night, the Phils wore their Danny Ozark-era Schmidt/Luzinski/Carlton throwbacks. The powder blue road version of that uni. For a home game. Used to be, baseball teams weren't allowed to wear throwback unis in the WS.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: Not a Lucchesi fan? It would be a lot easier to answer that if we knew if he is healthy. And if he is, he isn't more than a # 4 or #5 starter and maybe not even as good as Walker. Later
  5. All game long I kept thinking, "What ever happened to going the other way"? So many missed opportunities by both teams (including some squeezes). Their lack of fundies gives me a knot in my undies. Later
  6. Another big night for Ronny Mauricio in the Dominican winter league: 3-for-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R, SB, .961 OPS The 21-year-old Mauricio is leading the league in hits (21), doubles (7), RBIs (15), and tied for the lead in steals (6). Later
  7. And ex-Met Montero played a part in it. Later
  8. No nooooo Noah. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/former-met-noah-syndergaard-glad-234536452.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/former-met-noah-syndergaard-glad-234536452.html Talking about Chase Utley: “I've always admired the way he's played the game,” Syndergaard told Newsday's Tim Healey. “He's a tremendous talent and I'm glad to be able to put on the same uniform as him.” Didn't Benedict Arnold turn traitor in Philadelphia, too? Must be the cheese steaks. Later
  9. When we look in the rear view mirror, some things might seem larger than they actually are - like Cano one day being able to say he played on those playoff bound teams. Later
  10. He was tipping his pitches. When one of the Phills hit a homer, when he came back to the dugout I noticed he called other players over. He let them in on the "tell". Todd Frazier, now an analyst for ESPN showed what it was this morning. On an off speed pitch, he was holding his glove straight up and close to his face. With a fastball the glove was at an angle, and more away from his face. (or the other way around, I forgot) Later
  11. NBC is reporting that Pedro Grifol is the new manager of the White Sox. Later
  12. He says he'd be open to a return to New York. https://metsmerizedonline.com/justin-turner-open-to-idea-of-return-to-mets/https://metsmerizedonline.com/justin-turner-open-to-idea-of-return-to-mets/ How do you feel about that? I'd be concerned about his age and power drop off last year, but he still drove in runs. Later
  13. The words are as important to me as the picture. And Maxwell Smart set that one apart to me. Later
  14. I read that Arenado has already opted to return to the Cards. If they keep talking about moving McNeil around, he may get pissed off enough to leave as soon as he can. Later
  15. Just saw a post quoting Cohen saying there will be a "speakeasy club" in the new area, with a living room-style space with personal televisions, a private bar and an elevated dining experience among other things. "Sir. Here's your drink annnnndddd LOOK OUT!" Later
  16. Why can't Alex Ramirez follow the same path as Michael Harris and blossom at 21 yrs old? It's about time that kind of stuff happened to us. Later
  17. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=112168 time=1667193357 user_id=68] Goosen's presently dead. Thirty years from now, Goosen has an excellent chance of remaining dead.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Maybe they're putting something in that spot and needed to make more room? Yes. I read that they are planning to put a "special attraction" there, whatever that may be. But from the picture, it looks like it will reduce the home run dimension and cause an uneven configuration with a corner, nooks and crannies, like the bullpen in Fenway (right field) and the Kiner's Corner (Left field) in Forbes Field. 19. Maldonado was using an illegal bat in Game 1: https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/astros-martin-maldonado-used-illegal-bat-world-series-vs-phillieshttps://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/astros-martin-maldonado-used-illegal-bat-world-series-vs-phillies "Martin Maldonado is using a different bat today here in Game 2. He found out from MLB today that the bat he used last night was not a legal bat. It was a model he obtained from Albert Pujols, and he used it because he thought it was very similar in size and weight to his own model. The barrel, he said, was slightly bigger. He also thought it was a way to honor the baseball legend, of course retiring with the close of the season, but here's the catch to it, guys: in 2010, Major League Baseball changed the bat specifications and that bat that Pujols modeled was no longer, except if you were playing prior to 2010 it was grandfathered. So Albert Pujols could use that bat but Maldonado, who began his major league career in 2011, was not legally able to use that bat." The way he swings the bat, gornischt helfen*. But still ... * = nothing will help, nada puede ayudar, etc. Later
  20. I keep thinking this John Curtiss is a lefty, just like the well travelled John Curtis of the 70's/80's. Later
  21. Kase, you can play on my lawn any time. Just please don't leave any candy wrappers or divots. Later
  22. Edgy MD wrote: I don't think the Mets' prospects are sow's ears, Pardon my hyperbole. Later
  23. Edgy MD wrote: I would gather that the pursuit of excellence in performance technology would not hamper the pursuit of excellence in scouting, or vice versa. Remember the old expression, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"? You have a better chance of doing that if you start with silk. The greatest Bio-engineering couldn't turn Elio Chacon into Robin Yount. My priority, but not excluding the other, would be the scouting. But that's just me. Later
  24. My priority would be improving the skills of our scouts to identify future star players and getting them into the system, not squeezing the maximum capability out of average ones once they are here. Cue the Six Million Dollar Man theme music. Later
  25. In case you're wondering, there IS a Marvin Miller Award, and Lindor has been nominated. The Marvin Miller award was created in 1997 as a players' choice award and recognizes the outstanding on and off-field performances of players. https://metsmerizedonline.com/francisco-lindor-named-finalist-for-marvin-miller-award/https://metsmerizedonline.com/francisco-lindor-named-finalist-for-marvin-miller-award/ Later
