  1. I liked him on the Pirates and was happy when the Mets got him. RIP Later
  2. I tend to agree with Kate (whoever she is) on the rookie and bullpen issues but definitely not on the "tossing players under the bus" issue. That said, I'm not losing any sleep about his firing and looking forward to finding fault with the next manager. Later
  3. He jump started his career when started throwing the knuckleball. And, like many successful Knuckleballers (a short list), he pitched into his 40s. RIP Later
  4. Win one last one for the Buck-a-roo. And then we'll have another manager to criticize. Later
  5. Francisco earned himself a few votes yesterday. I hope he ends up in at least the top 5. Later
  6. They should have saved some runs from the first game. Later
  7. Let's keep the merry-go-round moving. Later
  8. OY! But I can't get used to Trevor Gott. Later
  9. I can get used to that! Later
  10. I just saw a replay. Nice diving catch by the squirrel. But the look on his face when he threw it in was priceless. Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: I'm not sure what "still done" means, but you can certainly start the thread whenever you like. A five-for-five opener will get Jeff McNeil back up to .300 for his career. It was an allusion to the "___ ____ is still alive" and "____ ____ is still dead" threads. Later
  12. Starling Marte officially done for the year. When will it be time to start a "Starling Marte is still done" thread? Later
  13. Edgy MD wrote: It was a big deal for Mantle fans — at least it's remembered as such. Strange that the in-the-moment coverage didn't note it. IIRC, I read during his last years that he and his fans were afraid that if he didn't finish his career at .300, some voters wouldn't vote him to the Hall of Fame. The .300 career average was a magic number for entry back then. And players who didn't have it were looked down upon by some of the old time members and writers. Later
  14. Lost 0-10. That's all she wrote. Drive home safely. See ya' next year. Later
  15. The Ponies are down 6-0 facing elimination from the championship if they lose. (they're down 0-1 in the series) Get those rally hats on, guys. Later
  16. Significant enough for us to remember? Was it a crucial game when he didn't get a hit with the winning runs in scoring position? Later
  17. Didn't everybody used to hit .339 in the Mexican League? BTW-great work, Cowtipper. Later
  18. When I checked earlier today, Philly weather showed a window when the rain will let up between 3 and 6. Might get it in. Later
  19. Doesn't Buck realize that Alvarez is three homers away from a Johnny Bench record for homers by a 21 year old catcher? He may have fallen out of the ROY race, but I think the kid deserves a shot, especially in a band box like this place. And if he gets them, the publicity could put him back into the ROY race. Later
  20. Lefty Specialist wrote: Later, we were in Budapest and I saw a woman with a Yankee hat, and said the same thing. She didn't react but her boyfiend said in a very New York accent, "Hey, whadda you, a Red Sox fan?" I have stopped doing that. I didn't realize bleacher creature were allowed to travel. Were they in restraints? Anyhow, enjoy your trip. Later
  21. And with that, your October beyond 10/1 is free. Sadly, I "win" this contest, too. I think I was the only CPF-er who predicted they wouldn't make the playoffs. I also won the "where each free agent is going to sign" contest, and I'm still waiting for my prize for that one . Now, if I could only pick wining lottery numbers ... (sigh) Later
  22. When not playing baseball, Rowdey Jordan sounds like someone who will be entering the bronc riding contest at the next rodeo. My daughter works with Trey McLaughlin's mother. They went to a game when Binghamton came to Hartford. I was hoping for a scouting report but Trey didn't get into the game. Later
  23. Now 3-2 Phrigging Phills. A three run dinger for JT. Later
  24. =kcmets post_id=138033 time=1695414879 user_id=53] =MFS62 post_id=138032 time=1695414259 user_id=60]I don't know if I could last to the AS break. His formulaic bullpen usage, his random number generated lineups and siting players after a hot game would have driven me nuts by then.
  25. =kcmets post_id=138024 time=1695404719 user_id=53] I'm fine with Buck for one more year. If the Mets suck at the all-star break in '24 kick his sorry millionaire ass to the curb and bring in Bartolo.
