  1. SNY has a video of Michael Kay complaining about an ad that says that the Mets announcers (GKR)are better than he is. What a whining little snivel. Later
  2. They're gonna' have a lot of passed balls with no catcher (and two centerfielders). Later
  3. Edgy MD wrote: LeMahieu and Torres should be pulled for lack of hustle. The fans of the two teams look at their cleanup hitters differently. Many Mets fans want to keep Alonso. But (looking at Facebook comments) the MFY fans all want to trade Torres. I haven't seen one post that said they should keep him. I guess his lack of hustle is obvious to them , but we don't see him every day. Later
  4. Have fun, Steve. The last baseball game I saw in DC was at RFK stadium. Later
  5. OOPS. Just posted the news in the roster thread. Later
  6. Marte has been placed on the 10 day IL and Ben Gamel brought up to replace him. Later
  7. In Ball Four, Jim Bouton tells the story of when the umpire told Whitey Ford to remove his wedding ring. He said the ring could cut the ball so much, Ford could make it "whistle Dixie". Later
  8. tacky or sticky More detail on how the umps have been trained and the guidelines they use: https://sny.tv/articles/further-reporting-mets-edwin-diaz-ejected-specific-fallouthttps://sny.tv/articles/further-reporting-mets-edwin-diaz-ejected-specific-fallout Later
  9. Chasen Shreve has signed a minor league deal with the MFYs. Later
  10. Agree. Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Even more innocently, one's metabolism could theoretically turn his or her naturally occurring hand oil and/or sweat to be stickier than the mean, especially when combined with resin and/or dirt. it's just guesswork that the umps are forced to exercise. If the pitcher has a natural condition that turns his sweat sticky, he is one lucky pitcher. I can just picture it now - agents spending millions in medical research to determine how that happened and if their client pitchers can be similarly infected. LOL! Later
  12. =nymr83 post_id=160200 time=1719247336 user_id=54] Maybe the umpire should be equipped with an item of appropriate weight (an index card? a quarter?) and press it to the guy's hand, turn the hand over, and see if gravity or the sticky shit wins... if the latter, you are out of the game - and you can test yourself in the dugout so anyone who fails really deserves it.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: That's incorrect. A hand being (or actually seeming) sticky isn't illegal. A hand having foreign, explicitly disallowed, substances applied to it is. The hand seeming to be sticky is (ambiguous) evidence, but it is not the violation itself, and thus the umpires are forced to make an unfortunate judgment call. How can a hand be (naturally) sticky without the application of a foreign substance? Later
  14. I'm not sure how it would work, but ,if we can do rapid testing for covid etc, surely a reliable testing kit can be manufactured? Anyway ,the Union and MLB need to figure this out , this seems unreliable Test for what? How do you measure "sticky"? Either it is or it isn't (to the touch). You don't have to know the chemical composition of the substance. It is sticky. The fact that is a dark substance and easily seen is another matter. There must be clear stick substances that wouldn't have raised suspicion. (looking for better ways to cheat) Later
  15. 102 pitches through six innings. We'll be waiting for a call to the bullpen. Good job. Later
  16. Alonso keeps on hitting Houser lowered his season's ERA to 5.86 Other than that, blech. Later
  17. YES! Shout it from the rooftops! The Mets are going to kick some baby bears in the butt today. Later
  18. Edgy MD wrote: The idea that everybody sees the ball better in daytime baseball is clearly overstated, but it's like, in the first inning so far, everybody's seeing the ball well. Thankfully, seeing the ball better has been limited to the Mets. Later
  19. Don't forget the Iglesias factor. I have no fucking idea what it is, but it sounds impressive Later
  20. The traffic report this morning(which includes commuter rail) said there was a delay on the 7 train at the Hudson Yards/ 34th street station. Didn't sound right. The last time i was on the 7 train it terminated at Times Square/ 42nd street. So I had to look it up. I never knew they extended the line to Hudson Yards in 2015 to prepare for the west side sports stadium that never got built. D'oh. Later
  21. What did he actually say, other than people would react to it? Later
  22. And your final was 17 (on 19 hits) to 5. Drive home safely. Later
  23. As I posted in the 6/18 IGT thread, it was up to 18-1 before the mojo stopped (hopefully temporarily) last night. Later
  24. Mike had a decent start tonight , with no decision: 5.0IP 8H 2R 2ER 1BB 3K his season ERA dropped to 6.75. Encouraging. Later
  25. The polls I've been seeing are for the greatest living MLB player. But you have a very valid point, Oh has to be considered if you expand the scope. Later
