  4. Latest news is that Fox is planning to "reboot" the Fantastic Four series. Apparently they hold the rights to the characters "in perpetuity" as long as they keep making films. So their options are: 1. Lose the characters 2. Make a third movie in the current series, which has had mediocre (at best) quality and less than mediocre reception. 3. Reboot, as was done with the Hulk. New cast, new interpretation, new... whatever. I think this is good news. I'm still hoping to see my favorite characters get the treatment they deserve. I was afraid that the two recent movies doomed my hopes for at least a generation. Now... maybe not. Same deal as they have with the X-Men franchise, hence why Wolverine's movie was called "X-Men Origins" I wouldn't quite call this "good news" though. While the FF, Doctor Doom and others aren't essential to to the Avenger stories, I wonder what characters are "officially" Fantastic Four properties? For example, what if Marvel Studios had a hankering to use the Skrulls, or Inhumans in a film? Both of those races got their starts in the Fantastic Four universe. Or even Namor! Is Namor considered part of the FF "family" of characters? This also has the potential of seeing some Roger Corman style rush jobs as well because they HAVE to get a movie made under whatever deadline that the contract says.
  5. In honor of Wright coming back, ehem... He's been pretty sucky in his 27th year Now heading to a place where Church was hurt before Could his past be behind him, or could he be born again Might 2010 be the same as the years before Prior to this year Wright seemed far and away The Met leader and the team's heart and soul But this team is now broken So does he really care? The season ended fast and the end won't be too long Colorado Rocky Mountain High Can Wright launch balls into the sky Instead of trying to softly hit line drives Rocky mountain high, Colorado...

Is that how Bond says "thanks"? and thats not the Bond I know, Brosnan's character or Clooney's aren't doing something like that. Clooney? I could see Dalton doing that.
  7. Houston, we may have a problem... Disney buys Marvel Comics for 4 Billion Disney owns the characters now, but I don't think they own the film rights. I see big legal battle coming. This is pretty much all because of the DVD legal mess of the 1990s cartoons (X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Fantastic Four and Hulk).
  8. ="Valadius":2v0z8ifc]="Philadelphia Inquirer":2v0z8ifc]He played in Philadelphia until 1960 when he was sent to the Cubs in the Tony Taylor deal.[/quote:2v0z8ifc] Did anyone else read this and immediately think to themselves, "Who the fuck is Tony Taylor?" On a completely unrelated note, the keyboards in Italy are all screwy.[/quote:2v0z8ifc] You mean the same way they'd read a story from a New York paper that referenced, oh say John Milner? MFS62 Aug 21 2009 06:26 PM ="Benjamin Grimm"] Were you aware of Ed's history? ] Yes, it was reported way back then. Later
  9. So is Don Newcombe. And Preacher Roe died this past year. And not to sound even more like an annoying twat, but only Gil and Jackie passed in the decade of the 1970s of the group you mentioned!
  10. Should be celebrating the '69ners on Saturday, and picking up a pretty darn nifty Citi Field miniature on Sunday.
  11. ="Benjamin Grimm"]I'd prefer that they not retire his number. Even if the Hall has him in a Met cap on his plaque?
  12. Eli Marrero behind the plate would be my guess if it wasn't Castro. Going to try Green at first
  13. ="Edgy DC":2xw7yflq]Tommy Lasorda not getting us any credit. I guess he wasn't on the post-season roster after all.[/quote:2xw7yflq] IIRC, he was taken off the Dodger postseason roster in order to put Sandy Koufax on.
  14. ="Frayed Knot"] He could also be a cantankerous, surly bigotand that's exactly the kind of "reporting" that tends to disappear whenever a company insider and acknowledged friend writes a bio. I've read enough Munson pr pieces over the years. If this book was any different it might be worth a look but I'm not betting on it. Hmmm, that part of the deconstructing of Munson I haven't heard. I know he was cantankerous and surly, but I got the impression that he just wasn't a people person, not that he targeted specific kinds of people. I hope it's not the Reggie situation, because didn't Reggie's infamous "straw that stirs" line cause the relationship to be non-existent in the first place? And then Munson's famous lack of people skills did the rest.
  15. Thurman Munson was killed. A new bio is out by Marty Appel, the former Yankee PR guy whom actually co-authored Thurman's autobiography back in the day. Amazon.com: Munson: The Life and Death of a Yankee Captain (9780385522311): Marty Appel: Books[/url:1p2gvkgk]
  16. ="Ceetar":2bh4yohp]="MFS62":2bh4yohp]I'm not sure if Matthews is a registered cretin. But he seems to be working hard for his certification. Later[/quote:2bh4yohp] Heard Michael Kay gushing about how on top of everything Matthews was and how much credit he should get for his articles on this stuff. I went back to listening to WFAN commercials in the car after that.[/quote:2bh4yohp] Hmmm, unless I read everything wrong, or misremembered, could have sworn Michael and Wally were pretty much at each other's throats back when they both worked on 1050. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 29 2009 10:56 PM Deadspin big-upped the Matthews story as well. But that's probably because it fits the Omar-as-boob narrative they've been crafting over there. While there should be no impact on day-to-day operations of the Wilpons' personal losses-- and anyone who suggests so doesn't understand how the accounting works, or is willfully ignoring it to ply their hackery-- it's entirely feasible that the losses lead semi-directly to the Wilpons' selling the team. Mex17 Jul 30 2009 04:16 AM ="MFS62":3gvohqx2]Matthews knows boxing. That's it.[/quote:3gvohqx2] And boxing is a dead sport. so that is not even anything. Matthews probably cringes over the fact that Newsday's sports editor is an MMA fan (I know this for a fact). MFS62 Jul 30 2009 10:26 AM ="Mex17":1tvxjr2y]="MFS62":1tvxjr2y]Matthews knows boxing. I wouldn't give him any credit for knowing anything. If anyone should be checking out that website for a douchebag name (see other forum) it's Wally. Later
  17. Just wondering. No biggie.

  20. ="metirish"]All the players I think as nice guys didn't juice , like Thome , Piazza....and the guys I think are dicks did juice..... To be fair, I've heard a smattering of "Piazza is a dick" stories. Again, they aren't as plentiful as say Seaver is a dick, Bonds is a dick or so on. And yes of course the stories tend to boil down to a few seconds of interaction between someone acting like a fanboy and a famous person who just might not be in the proper frame of mind to be gladhanding or whatever, but the point is you can't cherry pick "nice guy" and "dick" like that and judge if someone did something illegal based off of it.
  21. ="Fman99"] Wayne's a mercenary. He's got no pedigree. I don't want anyone doing Mets games that's not a) a former Met player or a lifelong Met fan. Gary, Howie, Ron, Keith. That's it. Hmmmm And the guy on the left was good when he was in the Met booth, sure he got wacked out since going national, but still
  22. Thursday afternoon for some Gay Dame action... Come to think of it, that would be a nice thing to enjoy for a postgame...
