Plus I didn’t have the CPF back then. Kevin McReynolds was (is?) my favorite Met of all time. Hell, I even owned a "22" Zubaz hat that I bought at Shea. I don't ever remember anything negative except the "rather be duck hunting" quote, which IIRC got taken out of context. I would guess that it didn’t help that the guy we traded to get him was: 1. A world champion 2. Fiery and well liked 3. An eventual MVP who hit 50 HRs I think a lot of that is revisionist history - I don't remember Mitch being all that particularly loved. I do wonder, though, what the internet would have done in 1989 when Mitch went bananas at the plate and McReynolds was just, well, McReynolds. A lot of it was there from the start though. The idea that the Met owners were trying to make the Mets more bland and mechanical has always been a knock against the move. Not to mention the assertion that he was a bad influence on Doc & Darryl which clearly was a wrong assertion.
  2. A LOT of Beltran’s criticisms were leveled against Kevn McReynolds as well. Who replaced an Afro-San Diego-ian whom many of the “Wilponzis have been bad owners since the 1980s” brigade has judged that if he was still a Met instead of McReynolds, things would have been different. Beltran being the face of the Los Mets “transformation” that was making headline news, and SI covers, probably is an added element, but its not the overwhelming element that you seem to think it is.
  3. I see all you writers who didn’t vote for me. Don’t make me sic my alpacas on your ass in the coming years! Either way, John-Boy and K-Rod are the only members allowed in the 400 Room!
  4. Yeah Mel, while your rep isn't the greatest around these parts, but you are in the right club. Looking for another guy though in the same room as I am though.
  5. What the hell does it say about my curiosity about such things, that I’m trying to search Google for The Air Strip to see where the establishment was. Even to the point where I just looked for it on Yelp! Yeah, knowing full well that it probably was long gone, or a least under a different name by early 2000! Heh, which is too bad, since Al’s description sounds like its either a 5 Star or a Zero Star review on Yelp!
  6. YES! I FOUND A CLUB WITH A LOT OF METS IN IT! Take it easy there buddy, there is a long way to go to the top of the food chain here. Ugh! I was this close to getting in here! Sorry man, I'm one of the bouncers at the gate, we should have our 150th member in the club, and more, very early next year though. Would you guys down there pipe down, I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to be in the Platinum Room here by the end of the decade! Anyway, there are 18 guys not represented here!
  7. One is the loneliest number, Dog!
  8. I guess no one else wants to play along? That’s what it looks like! That’s alright, this is still a cool club! Mets who have hit 300 or more career homeruns!
  9. That’s great to hear, and can’t wait for that Jay! This club is getting too crowded that hardly anyone comes here anymore! Speaking of which, 4 more guys are supposed to be in this room!
  10. Technically I’m not a fully fledged member of this room, but I am one of the bouncers of the Club overall! Right now I have John Fucking Sterling in my head...UGH! April can’t get here soon enough! Oh, sorry to hear that Rajah. Don’t worry, I should get my pass vaildated by at the latest, September.

  12. Bob Costas will be the second Frick Award winner not to put in any time with a specific MLB team’s broadcast booth(s) The other is a recent recipient, Graham McNamee who was a radio broadcasting pioneer, who died in the early days of teams having their own broadcast teams.
  13. Didn’t you already bring the cigars Carlos?
  14. Don’t worry Straw, I’ve got something cooking!
  15. Hey George! Now that I think of it, My Boys of Summer Dodgers, vs your Big Red Machine Reds, I wonder who would come out on top?
  16. Zvon wrote: Mister Rogers, is that Beltran pic the dreaded NLCS hook K? I love the Gil pic. Looks like it's been done up artsy style but it's too small to tell exactly what was done to it. If thats the NLCS K, there's a card there. ....But there's a card in everything! ( More card worthy than with Trump loomimg ominously, glaring down as F’N Yadlir jumps for joy! Gil is from an art card I saw on eBay.
  17. Because you’re the Chairman of this club Willie! I did bring some sweet cigars though!
  18. Well, this has been a fun club to be a part of Anyone got any advice on any rules of conduct here? If you win, they'll love you forever! *sigh* Speak for yourself, its really if you win the last postseason game you play of the year! Awww, don't pay too much mind to the Gloomy Gus there. Plenty guys in this specific club are beloved, despite their postseason performances, I mean one guy went a few WS hitless, right? HEY! No need to remind people! Anyway, there are 12 more members of this club that haven't shown up yet!
  19. Met Guys From Michigan?
  20. Maybe? Multiple numbers that include single digits?
  21. Uni numbers?
  22. Ding! Ding! Met broadcasters in the Hall proper like Seaver and Ralph, or Frick Award winners like Murph, Nelson, McCarver and Buck Canel, who worked in the Spanish booth in the 1970s.
  23. cooby wrote: Mets announcers? Yes, but such an exclusive one that we aren’t a part of, either way! Well not yet anyway
  24. Hola! Looking to join a club around here! Sure thing! You can join this club I’m in. But through the other entrance though. Yeah, I may be the charter member around here, but I’m still not allowed to use that other enterance! *sigh* Hopefully you’re catching on, as there are two members not accounted for, at the present time.
