Virtually a career ALer https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buehrma01.shtml I see he put in a lot of years, and pitched a lot of innings, for the White Sox but his numbers definitely don't look retirement-worthy to me. I think retired numbers are becoming seriously devalued. I'm glad the Mets have showed restraint. I agree. FYI, out of the White Sox' 11 retired numbers, Buerhle is the 5th that is currently on the outside looking in of Cooperstown. The other 4 are #9 Minnie Minoso, #19 Billy Pierce, #3 Harold Baines and #14 Paul Konerko.

  6. Doing some research on various stadium honors, such as number retirements, statue installations, etc and thought the year in such would make an interesting quiz: This year 6 numbers were retired: _____ MFYs _____ Boston Red Sox _____ Chicago White Sox _____ Texas Rangers _____ Seattle Mariners _____ Cleveland Indians There were 13 additions to various team HOFs _____ St Louis Cardinals _____ St Louis Cardinals _____ St Louis Cardinals _____ Minnesota Twins _____ Minnesota Twins _____ Washington Nationals _____ Washington Nationals _____ Milwaukee Brewers _____ Brewers's Braves Roll of Honor _____ MFYs _____ Anaheim Angels _____ San Francisco Giants _____ San Diego Padres Bonus, there was a team that had a HOF enshrinement announced, but had to rescind it close to the date of the ceremony. Name the team and person. There have been 8 new statues installed in and outside stadiums _____ Atlanta Braves _____ Atlanta Braves _____ Cleveland Indians _____ Cleveland Indians _____ Los Angeles Dodgers _____ Minnesota Twins _____ Seattle Mariners _____ Cincinnati Reds Usual CPF rules (one guess per person) apply and hints will be provided every five posts
  7. Mike Marshall?
  8. I’d take a 5 year run of division champion 95-100 win seasons of domination, even with a Wild Card in the mix, despite zero rings over having to scrape and claw late just for the chance to make the postseason as an 85-93 win team every few roster turnover cycles. OE: Yes I’m now aware that their NL Champion 2017 season was the Dodgers’ first over 95 win season since the McCourt era broke bad.

Rather than being interesting, this observation reinforces CF's point that the "hot stove is slow" So slow that I thought this was a bump due to some Bartolo news! And I’m now remembering that he finished the year in Minnesota, but that’s never stopped a thread like that becoming a catch-all in the past!

I don't follow you, Steve. What's that about? Hamilton put a curse on the Mets, and discussed it with Everett on one of their many different shows they did for MLB TV, Radio or podcasts.

  13. Jose Reyes for 2012?
  14. Scooter rocking the no tie look as well. Suppose it could be worse, like his shoulder still being in a sling since September!
  15. Brandon Nimmo got married on Friday, and Travis d’Arnaud on Saturday.
  16. ...Kevin Spacey was a well regarded actor with a deeply guarded private life, and a hit show that showed no sign of stopping any time soon.
  17. Holy Moley vs Grandy Man, and Turner, but more importantly miserable fucks like Utley!
  18. Centerfield wrote: This crap I'm seeing about the Yankees likeable overachieving underdogs makes me hurl. How the fuck is the #2 payroll team in all of baseball an underdog? Fuckers. I’ve seen MFY fans claim that a lot of it is dead contracts (ARod). But yeah, as Hahn said, there are plenty of veteran, and playoff tested, performers on the roster to counter balance the few that haven’t been here before.

  21. Wonder if a home uni wearing Duda would get the Strawberry Apple treatment if he hit one out? The way the Shea Apple came halfway out for Straw back in 1998 when the MFYs sullied Shea vs the Angels when beams were falling down in The Death Star II.

It was dumb, but he was clearly talking about some distant abstract future. I guess it makes the list of shitpiles the Mets have stepped in this year, but pretty low. I agree, especially since its not an uncommon sentiment among athletes. If an ex-Met had said the same thing (Strawberry might be an apt comparison especially since he still thinks of himself as bleeding orange and blue), the tenor would be more "how can we facilitate his return/underscores how dumb it was that he's no longer here" instead of "way to backstab your current organization, teammates, manager and fanbase!" I REALLY can't believe this is actually a matter of note, much less one of concern. We're in an era where the most sensational early "connect the dots" theories can become "well worn and shared facts" on social media/networks. And I'm just talking about reasons for Harvey's suspension, which included obvious MSG photos as "photographic proof that he was in Ottawa" for the Ranger game! Not too mention a fanbase still hurting over defections that seemed short sighted (Murphy, Turner and even Colon based on his popularity). Not too hard to believe the knee jerk reaction to a FA that commanded big money, twice, would cause a reaction by expressing fondness for hos original franchise and skipper.
