  1. Johnny Dickshot wrote: ="seawolf17"]Dude can fly. That's why they call him the "Japanese Jose Reyes." Thwack! I kinda like Eric Byrnes. He's the David Lee Roth of baseball. Yeah but that wasn't Burkhardt coming in during a break in the action and breaking back for about 5 seconds, this was something while the action was very much going on
  2. Besides the point mm. But actually if they tried to ever use that call in any sort of highlight package of ASG moments, they actually would have to edit out that non-sequitor as Byrnes was saying that JUST as Young delivered the pitch pretty much. Or at the very least it was where usually you'd hear the start of the highlight "Here is the pitch..."
  3. Here is the truely funny part, and probably tells you all you need to know about how the ASG is treated, FOX ALMOST missed that because they have Eric Byrnes out there in McCovey Cove with his dog swimming the wrong way and his boat springing a leak.
  4. Well did Victor's Mini-Me go through life threating illness to the point where Victor created a foundation in his son's honor? Hmmmm? =
  5. Did Jorge have his Mini-Me with him in the intros?
  6. Iubitul wrote: Maye it's just me, but those plays in the field sparkled a little more with the blue hat/pinstripe combo. YES! Somewherelse I read based on our future game rep that it looked like black/blue hat with black tops. THANKFULLY the proper pinstriped/blue hat attire is being worn. I'm guessing it has been a while since a Met has graced the ASG with pinstripes
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: ]Now i didn't see the 1st episode, so its highly unlikely i'll watch any of the rest. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that they're going to re-run it two or three (or eight or nine) times before getting around to episode two. None of which makes it not incredibly stupid that, not only was their highly publicized self-produced series bumped off of its starting time, but that it was done for a contrived event which ran long thru ESPN's own fault to begin with. Excellent point. They hyped it as starting at 10ish but ended up being 11. Though I'd suspect that they made it that way so the HR Derby would get a late "spike" even if it had Griffey, Bonds, ARod, and other big stars.
  8. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Check out the FanFest when it comes to New York in a couple years. It's a lot of fun. I don't know how the recent Chicago ones have been, but there had better be Met representation and its not all Yankee-centric next year. I will go to that, but staying far away from the game, derby, futures game, ect.
  9. I have a Journalism class tonight "Freelancing, For Fun And Profit" but I am Tivo-ing it, mostly just to see the introductions and fastforward to the Metly actions. Hopefully Reyes (well all of the guys) make it out without any injuries =
  10. ="Edgy DC"]Ex-Met news coming from... The Cecil Whig! Bubbas long road back Tuesday, July 3, 2007 9:48 AM EDT By Mike Phelps mphelps@chespub.com... Saw Bubba and Aberdeen when they played in Staten Island recently I tried to get a better shot but I was too high up for a profile or anything.
  11. 296, done, 297, done. One more and Tommy Boy is officially the 23rd winningest pitcher of all-time. But that means he is Or perhaps more appropriatly with Tommy being a Brave and all away from 300
  12. The Catch shows up nice on Endy's Upper Deck card, #381 Well it does on the actual card! Well Upper Deck doesn't want photo stealing, but ebay doesn't mind
  13. The Ballpark In Arlington has every player in Ranger history, season by season, listed. Brian Bohanon's name on the 1992 roster is listed as such
  14. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Yeah. It had to be, meant to be, Sky King. Same sequence also saw # 17 Felix Millan, but A) Felix is shorter, Felix is not caucasian and C) the batter did not choke up on the bat, It looked more like it could have been Mike Vail or Lee Mazzilli and also # 28 John Milner, and I believe I called it when a pic was posted of an indy league player on "set" in a Met uniform a while back who looked a bit like The Hammer circa 1977.
  15. G-Fafif wrote: When I first heard of the .44 Caliber Killer at 14, I thought it was an overwrought nickname the News pinned on Jackson. I wasn't paying attention. In Spike Lee's "Summer Of Sam" some yos speculate that the killer actually could be # 44. Obviously no one outside of someone suffering from paranoia would think that, but it was just a funny part of that movie.
  16. G-Fafif wrote: The more buffoonish they make Big Stein, the better. HA! Everytime Platt spoke I kept thinking of Larry David's "Steinbrenner" from Seinfeld.
  17. G-Fafif wrote: Good thoughts. But nah. The less Billy Crystal making 62*, 63* and so on, the better. How awkward are those McGwire scenes now? Insanely awkward. But I'll just give the movie the fact that it was made in (IIRC) 2001, despite everyone "knowing" about McGwire since the late '80s
  18. Randolph, and Gardenhire named coaches Along with Bruce Bochy (Giants) and Ron Washington (A's)
  19. Hey m.e.t.b.o.t. I have a nice picture of you hanging with some other famous 'bots that I'm going to send to metsmarathon hopefully this weekend/early next week. A co-worker of mine has a nifty collection in his office, and I think he may get a kick out of the concept of m.e.t.b.o.t.
  20. Misery LOVES company, Yankees SWEPT out of Colorado 1-3 Tuesday 1-6 Wednesday 3-4 This afternoon They get the Giants in SF this weekend, Baltimore this week and Oakland next weekend.
  21. metirish wrote: That's good to know Steve.....of course I was taking the piss with you.... Ah ya bloody bloke. Ya better watch it or I'll send some of the pipers up to your neck of the woods to serenade you!
  22. metirish wrote: Have fun Steve...sounds like a good night..... btw, what's a Brit like yourself doing at an Emerald gig? Bloody hell, got Grandparent ties all over the Emerald Isle. 75% Irish, 25% Mexican (Grandpa on my Dad's side, worked as a chef in a Caskills resort in the 20s and met a cute Irish chick who was a waitress, rest as they say...) There is not a single ounce of England blood in me!
  23. Going a week from tonight, going to be in the picnic pavillion as part of the Emerald Society of the NYPD's Pipes & Drums band picnic at Shea. Despite my feelings this morning, next week had better be a STATEMENT WEEK! Kind of weird though, playing back-to-back series vs the Phillies at home before playing at Citizens Bank Park, but ah well.
  24. Fair points. Just my personal frustrations coming out I guess. Just reaching thinking that a dip in the standings will end the "Hey at least we are still in first" mentality and cause for Omar to pull the trigger on some deals. Put it this way, when I see the Mets in Chicago first weekend of August, I really don't want it to be the Mets battling to stay on the fringe of the race, and the way things appear to be going, I may be drowning my sorrows rather than drinking in celebration.
  25. ="Frayed Knot"]Yes, because the reason they're playing poorly is that they don't realize it yet and only through a drop in the standings will it occur to them. Fair point, but how many times have you seen teams think they can turn it on and off. I'm out of "staying positive" things to say at this point, who knows maybe that might work. ]Boy, this team historically doesn't do well in these "down to the wire" years do they? And we know what kind of effect that'll have on this team.
