  1. Agree with the first two but think over on the Ks.

But if you gave me 5 guesses as to what year he played for the Mets…and the window couldn't be that large…I think it's at best 50% chance I get it right.
  3. The AL winner was Beltran?
  4. Don't think I would have expected Gary to be dropping John Doe references. (Although the song was actually written by Dave Alvin).
  5. =Gwreck post_id=98161 time=1656891360 user_id=56] Mets played a day game, with no extraordinary travel required to get to Cincinnati. Reds in the middle of a homestand…and this 4th of July game starts at 6:40 PM.
  6. Scott Williamson. He was a closer? I want to say — late 90s/early 00s, but would've been before Graves so I could be off on the year.
  7. Responding to r_t. Maybe I have a soft spot for people complaining about my city, especially if they haven't been here in a while. (Toll lines at the Whitestone ceased being a thing at least 10 years ago or more. For a while, you had to be aggressive to keep the idiots out of the EZPass lanes, and then they switched to open-road tolling).
  8. Do you not do much driving in New York? A Friday afternoon at 5:00 PM might take you 40 minutes between the stadiums. Otherwise, you'd have to be taking several wrong turns for it to take 40 minutes.
  9. =roger_that post_id=98174 time=1656937224 user_id=128]I think they're closer together than Citi and Yankee fields.

  11. 7 of his 24 pitches were 100+ mph.
  12. I'm not sure I understand that comment, in part because (1) there was no a link to a story (and hence it by definition is not “clickbait”) and (2) isn't the easier move to just not follow him? Anyway, Olney's a fine reporter and writer and all, but I do agree it's a seemingly out-of-nowhere comment. I suppose we'll find out in the offseason. I am certain that deGrom will opt-out, and am reasonably certain the Mets aren't likely to be outbid. But definitely there is nothing preventing him from going to Atlanta if he wants to.
  13. Buster Olney: “There is a perception in some corners of the industry that if Jacob deGrom follows through with what he said in the spring and opts out of his Mets' contract, the Braves will be the favorites to land him.”
  14. Escobar was ready to go first both on both strike 1 and for strike 2. Oh well.
  15. Two things can be true. (The genius was his agent)
  16. Edgy MD wrote: I don't believe bullpen arms are what's needed. All the relievers in the world won't win you a game if you don't score. What do you think the Mets need? (Or would you just stand pat)? Me, I'm worried that Drew Smith is on pace to blow past his career innings high by August and after him and Ottavino there's a whole lot of “eh” in the bullpen. Getting shut out by Justin Verlander is not some great shame, and the Mets are, even despite the paucity of runs scored this week, third in the league in scoring runs. So while I agree that they also need to add a hitter, it is not the top priority.
  17. The discussion of the pitch clock and its effects was fascinating. That seems like a rule change that would actually address a real issue. Nothing in this article suggests that Manfred does not hate baseball, however. His refusal to admit a mistake was obnoxious. (The recent rule changes he pushed for have tainted and cheapened the game and don't solve the issue of game speed).
  18. This should be an eye-opening series: -The Mets are a good but not elite team. -An upgrade to 2 bullpen arms should a priority -Some reallocation of Davis/Escobar's playing time needs to be considered; they're not getting it done. Another bat should be considered. -Mets have beat no elite teams. 2-2 against LA; 0-4 against Houston. 1-2 against SD. Results against Giants/Cardinals/Brewers more encouraging but suggest the Mets are a pretty good team that likely could Make the playoffs, not a very good team that would be expected to go far in the playoffs.
  19. Passenger struck by train at Grand Central. Not great. Mets throughly outclassed by Astros now in 3 games.
  20. The lipreading is the best part. Essential context.
  21. Interesting to not pinch run for Davis.
  22. Correcting myself from a different thread: apparently this game is not free, and to see it requires signing up for a Peacock premium subscription. (The Friday Apple TV games are free). This is offensive, MLB. Rob Manfred is bad for baseball.
  23. Blake Snell, not Ian.
  24. =Ceetar post_id=97233 time=1656109372 user_id=102]then those people are working too much. I suspect they should unionize. Even the bare minimum, 5pm, gives you 100 minutes to get there. AND even if they're late, I'm sure more people appreciate getting home 30 minutes earlier than the ones that worry they might miss an inning.
