  1. If we got a rainout tonight, does that help? Peterson pitched Friday at Syracuse, so we'd be stuck with a bullpen/Williams game tomorrow anyway?
  2. Tim Healey of Newsday recently pointed out that both Guillorme and Smith are potential emergency catchers. Does this count as an emergency? Hmm…
  3. 1165: Colin Holderman The first-ever Colin to play for the Mets. (McHugh has two Ls in his first name).

Fans waited through a 68-minute rain delay, we're getting on toward midnight, and it's still crazy loud with every pitch." Translation: They were good and drunk Disagree. Did not see evidence of that anywhere near me. No fights/bad behavior/streams of obscenities - the kinds of things one does see when the crowd is over-served. I have no doubt the Mets sold some beers last night but “good and drunk” is a bad way to describe it from afar.
  5. Good win. DiComo with a shoutout to the crowd. I don't attend as many games as he does but it *was* a good crowd.
  6. I don't think you hit for Canha. Davis and Nido, yes.
  7. On the one hand, Cano was the first player the Mets acquired post-PED suspension who turned out to be a dud. Marlon Byrd, Bartolo Colon, and Starling Marte (TBD) were all fairly good signings. On the other hand, trading key prospects for 36 year olds coming off PED suspensions is always a dumb move.
  8. =G-Fafif post_id=92111 time=1652405082 user_id=55] The Mariners were due at Citi Field in 2020 until the pandemic had other ideas. Still a long time.
  9. This is the 14th (!) season Citi Field has been open. There's no clearer example of how stupid the scheduling has been that there could be a team that still hasn't visited.
  10. This view is great. No, Juan, you don't get to go to third.
  11. Weird. Gameday said Nido hit and I was thinking it very odd to not get a PH there. I would've hit for Guillorme too.
  12. Need an extra base hit here from Starling.
  13. I took one of the tours many years ago, and it did include dugout and clubhouse access, as well as some other otherwise non-public areas. Those are just unlikely to be available during a homestand. That said, I'd still do it. I would typically always try to take a tour when seeing a ballpark for the first time.

But it never bothered me that we never had one the way it clearly did some Met fans and, I strongly suspect, Wilpon-era NYM culture where middling-type milestones often seemed "over-celebrated" (Franco's round number save, Lenny Harris's PH record, Piazza's most HRs for a C) as if in a forced attempt to enrichen NYM lore with those accomplishments. I wasn't around for Qualls, but my recollection is the “no no-hitters” issue first became prevalent towards the end of Nolan Ryan's career, when he threw his sixth and seventh no-hitters (1990-91) — well before any of the “Wilpon-era culture” stuff you mention. I also recall the issue being magnified when Doc and Cone threw no-hitters for that other team. I generally try not to care too much what happens over there in the Bronx, but those two (particularly Doc's) were not the happy memories they could have been.
  15. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: One of the reasons I disliked the Santana hitter was how the spectre of the Mets history as having never had one was interpreted as a black eye for the Mets when it needn't have ever been, and really imo spoke to the paranoia and low self esteem that marked the Wilpon Era. No hitters should be random and earned, not forced into existence to slay some imaginary dragon, willfully pretending that Beltrans hit was foul. I disagree. The Santana no-hitter was a pure moment of joy in what was run of really bad years. I mean, take a look at the IGT that night. Was there as fun a game in 6 seasons between 2009 and 2014? http://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/17900/f14_t17982.shtmlhttp://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/17900/f14_t17982.shtml I guess we can worry about a missed call (and there unquestionably have been other missed calls in other no-hitters) but I have a really tough time accepting that it was “forced into existence.” Maybe that's easier to say now that there was a second one this year, but I don't buy that narrative. It was a tremendous achievement and a great moment for the franchise. I'll admit my own part in being extremely fed up with the Mets and ownership and lots of various missteps that were made in this time period. But not everything has to be forced into a “LOLMets” or even a “it's just not quite right” narrative.
  16. I thought the sculptor's answers were reasonable and sensible. Am I missing something, or is this not a big deal at all?
  17. Interestingly, Keith agreed with the send/aggressiveness: would take an on-target throw to get him at third, and it was a very close play even with a good throw. I think that one's on Joey Cora/Buck, less on Nido.
  18. Lot of missed opportunities in this game. Mets did not look great in their approaches at the plate at all.
  19. SNY booth saying that Nimmo has no confidence to steal bases.
  20. If this game gets cancelled, it's not as clear when it gets made up. -Doubleheader Sunday (most likely): basically fine from the Mets' perspective, given they are off Monday. Sunday is getaway day for Philadelphia, however: they play in Seattle on Monday. -Doubleheader Sunday, 8/21: would make the August trip to Philadelphia 5 games in 3 days.
  21. Something in the middle. 24 is probably going to be treated like 7 or 8; it's not going to openly assigned, but if someone asks and has a good reason, sure, they can have it. As opposed to anything actually retired (or #5), which are not available.
  22. "Split doubleheaders", A/K/A two games in one day with separate admissions, are a scourge and should have been banned for at least this year as part of the faux apology that Manfred made to the fans. Banning split doubleheaders only works if the “rain check” policies are revised and refunds are available if the game isn't played as scheduled.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Still no two game losing streak. First week, they lost the fourth game of the initial Washington series, then lost the first game at Philly.
  24. Lost in the shuffle: second straight game Buck gives up the DH in the 9th inning.
