I don't see a conundrum, especially because nobody is blindly screaming “do something.” (Or if they are, no one should listen to them). The point is to make good moves and this…doesn't look like a great one: an uncertain upgrade at a high price.
  2. =Ceetar post_id=101906 time=1659470310 user_id=102] sure, he can murder lefties/sinkers pretty well, and that's a good skillset to have. But that's only marginally better than what you had in Davis AND you gave up prospects for him and tepidly committed to him for next year too.
  3. Ruf is signed through 2023 with a club option for 2024. This trade seems…odd.
  4. It depends a bit on the deal parameters. If San Diego was going to eat the contract (or part of it), then at some point they could just release Hosmer. If the point was to get money off the books, well, paying Hosmer $30M to waive the no-trade is still some salary relief (he's owed $39M for 2023-25 plus balance of this year).
  5. Wonder what Hosmer would be able to extract for waiving the no-trade clause. $5M? $10M? $20M?
  6. No excuse to not have a no-hitter tonight. (Combined. I get that deGrom still has a pitch limit)
  7. Still looking for two bullpen arms (even if Trevor May comes back healthy/productive). Whatcha got, Billy Eppler?
  8. Thrilled to see bunts against the shift. Keep doing it and they'll stop shifting.

I think it was the writer who said that, not Canha himself. I figured it was Canha because of the reference to his little kids, for which I would guess access to a pharmacy would be quite convenient.

  11. I'll take a free dollar.

  14. Presumably Jankowski heading to the minors. Naquin is neither as fast nor as good a defender…but he can actually hit some while Jankowski has not really shown that ability.
  15. =nymr83 post_id=101412 time=1659065014 user_id=54]The food is the only part of the 5 boroughs i miss
  16. The suggestion in the Real Deal article that a new 25k soccer stadium would be able to host World Cup games is laughable.
  17. Mets fans chanting back “MVP” after third Judge Strikeout.
  18. Yankees playing four outfielders (no third baseman) against Escobar. I think he's got to bunt there.
  19. Ottavino needs to come in for the 7th against the top of the lineup. Not Lugo.
  20. Also: David Cone is a moron. -Implying that it was ok for Clemens to hit Piazza -Explicitly saying that “You have to be a lot more careful around the head today, for obvious reasons.” As if throwing at the head 20 years ago was somehow ok.
  21. Scherzer would pitch Wednesday against the Yankees on regular rest.
  22. Also: Cardinals reliever Johan Oviedo won't be going to Toronto. Not for lack of vaccination but because his passport is expired.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Goldschmidt & Arenado to miss StL's upcoming two game series in Toronto due to ... exactly what you think. I hope the Cards lose both and then wind up missing the playoffs and/or division by one game. It's a bad look for any team, but these are the only two guys not going? The two superstars? That's really bad.
