  1. Would think about a Taijuan Walker pinch runner here for Nido.
  2. Positive COVID tests? Not sure what else would have prompted them both being pulled.
  3. 17: 3-0 Phillies 3-1 Braves 3-1 Phillies 2-0 Yankees 4-0 Rockies 2-1 Dodgers
  4. A Daily News article from May indicated that Guillorme had indeed volunteered to serve as emergency catcher if needed. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-luis-guillorme-super-utility-infielder-20220524-ul7imeqcf5czvdl5pnpmm6dvci-story.htmlhttps://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-luis-guillorme-super-utility-infielder-20220524-ul7imeqcf5czvdl5pnpmm6dvci-story.html
  5. It's not too early. This is the best Mets team in more than 35 years, and has a real chance to be the best-ever Mets team. Start the countdown. The postseason is happening.
  6. Weird play there on Nimmo. I tried to type out what happened for those who aren't watching, but it took too many words. First and second now, one out, Buck is still angry despite "winning" the challenge. He didn't win; he just retained the challenge. Nimmo, running from first to second, was tagged with an empty glove. At that point, he would naturally stop running. So, for the umpires to then rule that the Braves would have been able to throw to first, and the back to second and still get Nimmo is, to put it precisely, total bullshit.
  7. Three sounds good. LGM.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: there are still 50+ games remaining including seven more with the Braves, all at their place: 4 stating next Monday and then 3 more to end the season (critical or meaningless??) Those games in October in Atlanta no longer end the season. There is a home series against Washington (moved from April due to lockout) that now ends the regular season. The good thing about this being a home game is that, in addition to not having to listen to 'the chop' and that silly accompanying war chant A large number of Mets fans were doing it on the 9th last night to mock the Braves. A little taunting is fun but wish they could find a non-racist way to do it.
  9. deGrom, Lugo, McNeil, Nimmo: 2022 is the 5th consecutive year all have been on the Mets roster. No trips to minors other than rehab starts.
  10. It's not exactly a compelling argument to say the Mets “fumbled” the off-season but only have as follow-up “I don't feel like rehashing it.” For the record, I agree the Mets could have done more at the deadline. But the off-season moves? The results are pretty compelling, eg. the five key additions cited above.
  11. =Ceetar post_id=102422 time=1659708912 user_id=102]I don't feel like rehashing the deadline, some non-moves worked out (like McNeil bouncing back, MeGill pitching amazing, etc.
  12. =Ceetar post_id=102363 time=1659663145 user_id=102]fumbling the offseason AGAIN with the GM,

  14. Reigning LAMSA (Longest Ago Met Still Active) Joe Smith has been DFA'd (designated for assignment) by the Twins. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/twins-dfa-joe-smith-select-sandy-leon.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/twins-dfa-joe-smith-select-sandy-leon.html New titleholder is…Darren O'Day?
  15. Assume, as we must, that the Mets will make the playoffs. If Diaz and Ottavino are locks for the bullpen, who are your other 6 relievers? (Feel free to write in a 7th if you you think they should have an extra reliever over an extra bench player).
  16. There's a strong argument that as of today, the Mets have the best, healthiest, and most complete roster they've had all year.

Any maybe Jason Bay (who went through a second organization before becoming a star). That's all you can come up with? Even those are enormous, and enough to realize that deadline deals can be very costly. I'm not sure where 25 years comes in, but I can certainly offer more. Jason Isringhausen. Ty Wigginton. Jeff Keppinger — the throw-in in the Wigginton deal. Brian Bannister. I'm only thinking of midsummer, pump-up-for-the-race deals here.
  18. Of course we can't predict the future. But history has value. And it does tell us that trading prospects at the deadline rarely comes back to bite the Mets. In the last 25 years, the prospects the Mets truly regret trading, in which the value they traded away was greater than the value received are…Kazmir and Melvin Mora? Any maybe Jason Bay (who went through a second organization before becoming a star).
  19. Edgy MD wrote: =Gwreck post_id=102217 time=1659582961 user_id=56]But can we at least agree agree that that the Mets had spots in their lineup and bullpen that could have been upgraded with better talent? Maybe.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: I'm-a never going to equate making deals with "going for it." I'm biased, because I hate trades on principle, but going for it can also mean committing to and believing in who you have. It's fine to hate trades. Not every trade gets you Keith Hernandez or Yoenis Cespedes. But can we at least agree agree that that the Mets had spots in their lineup and bullpen that could have been upgraded with better talent?
  21. =Ceetar post_id=102211 time=1659578529 user_id=102] =Gwreck post_id=102208 time=1659575235 user_id=56] Grumble under breath that Eppler was willing to make a stupid trade of a great prospect in 2021 when Mets didn't have a great chance, but now was gunshy about doing so.
  22. Gwreck series preview: Win 5: Schedule mini-vacation for 3 days when other NL teams are playing first round games Win 4: Sigh contentedly. Prepare to deliver knockout punch during 4 game series in Atlanta later this month. Win 3: Recognize that while Mets are still better, Braves need to be taken seriously. Sigh anxiously. Win 2: Remind self that despite 5 game series, Braves could only make up 1 game. Nervously pace while contemplating facing San Diego's new look lineup in October. Win 1: Reread Tim Britton article in The Athletic about Mets not sufficiently “going for it” in their best start to a season since 1988. Grumble under breath that [CROSSOUT]Eppler[/CROSSOUT] the former GM was willing to make a stupid trade of a great prospect in 2021 when Mets didn't have a great chance, but now was gunshy about doing so. Win 0: Panic.
  23. =G-Fafif post_id=102141 time=1659549684 user_id=55]Official roster moves TBA.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: So, yeah, I think we've mostly established that first place is still worth fighting hard for. Based on how the season is shaking out, there's a compelling argument that first place - but second seed - is what the Mets want. The division winner without a bye (Milwaukee) will play the lowest-ranked wild card team (likely St. Louis or Philadelphia). The other two wild cards (almost certainly the NL East second place team and San Diego) will play each other. For obvious reasons, playing San Diego is unappealing. Then, in the second round, the first seed (LA) gets the winner of the 4/5 matchup. The second seed (hopefully Mets) get the winner of the 3/6 matchup. Again, for obvious reasons, playing San Diego or Atlanta is unappealing. This year, being the first seed is only really helpful in providing home field advantage for the NLCS (and possibly World Series). (Needless to say, MLB should change this so that the top seed faces the weakest team in round 2…but these are the rules we have for this year).
