  1. The reason I don't go Senga in game 1 is that Peterson might be more useful as a reliever in games 1/2 (or even 3). And if you don't need him, then he backs Senga in game 3 or 4.
  2. We also play under the real rules so there is a chance of a 14 inning game.
  3. Through two rounds, neither Ottavino nor Danny Young has pitched. (Young has never even warmed up, I believe).
  4. I go Severino 1, Manaea 2. That way they each go on an extra day's rest.
  5. Sunday, October 13: Mets at SD/LA, 8:15 PM EDT Monday, October 14: Mets at SD/LA, 4:08 PM EDT ALCS Game 1, 7:37 PM EDT Wednesday, October 16: SD/LA at Mets, 8:08 PM EDT Game 4 and 5 start times will depend on who is playing. If KC wins, Mets will certainly be an evening start. If it's Mets/Dodgers, that may take the primetime spot away from CLE/DET vs Yankees.
  6. Love Francisco. Nimmo standing on second base during the celebration, taking in the crowd, with tears in his eyes.
  7. The Phillies' family section was nearby where I was sitting. There were a few jokes amongst the crowd about daddy not wanting to show up/not being welcome.
  8. Public sale for NLCS started today, with low price of $220 for promenade outfield.
  9. It'll forever been the Foxwoods Resort Casino turning point of the game for me.

  11. Outstanding win. Great crowd. Introduced the entire taxi squad (McNeil, Baty, Reyes, Kranick, Senger, A. Young) and the injured guys (Scott, Smith, Raley). Nice cheers for McNeil. I too wanted Ottavino. Diaz was inexplicably up in the 8th.
  12. To be fair, when his number was retired two seasons ago, Keith threw a “first pitch” from first base to at catcher (his brother) on the edge of the dirt circle at home plate — at least 70 feet.
  13. Houston played division series games in primetime last year (against Minnesota). Who is Mike Francesa?
  14. Game 2: Presumptive AL Cy Young Winner Tarik Skubal pitched 7 scoreless for the Tigers…who were also held scoreless. Tigers hit a 3 run homer off Clase (47 Saves, 0.61 ERA this year) in the top of the 9th.

That's right, at 1:30 local time (home and away) so the prime slot can be filled with pinstripes. To be fair, there are potential AL matchups that would force the Yankees into the afternoon. For example, a Houston-Boston series would do the trick. Makes plenty of business sense that they're (almost) always going to go with the biggest audience in the best slots — this is the rare situation because the two biggest potential audiences are two matchups in the same league.

  18. Logically: MLB championships can only be won on the field. And — particularly in the pre-interleague days — how can we be sure they were the champions? There's at least one (or more) AL team that would rightfully have a problem with that. Politically/PR: just a bad thing all around to bring more attention to 1994.

SRO tickets start at $248 I looked into this too -- the same upper deck behind the plate seats that I scored five of for $70 on TickPick, for a July matinee, are going for $500 apiece for tomorrow. Pass.
  20. Part of the problem is that MLB sells the AL and NL playoff rights separately, and then can't force one network into two afternoon games. There's little doubt that Mets/Phillies and Dodgers/Padres are the most compelling matchups, and yes, both would likely outdraw the Yankees versus Royals. But Fox has both NL games, and Turner gets an evening AL game. Now, on Tuesday, when it's NL-only, I cannot figure out why the Mets had to play at 5. With the west coast game starting at 9, Mets should be starting at 6. (How could a 5:00 start time out-draw a 6:00 PM start time?)
  21. 1. Just too much Diaz. He's thrown 130 pitches in the last week. His meltdown bothers me least. He needs Tuesday off, though. 2. Severino: I'm not too upset about Harper. You're up 3, he not the tying run, fine to challenge him I guess. Sometimes these things happen. BUT: you have to then adapt and change your approach to Castellanos. 3. Megill: you cannot walk Turner. Challenge him. Hell, if he hits the walk-off homer, oh well. But there were two outs and you have to make him swing the bat. On the positive side: The Phillies bullpen has been thoroughly exposed as unreliable and the Mets proven repeatedly that they can hit any of them. Pressure remains on the Phillies more than the Mets. The one game the Mets come in with an advantage in starting pitchers. Expecting a very good crowd at Citi on Tuesday.

  23. Three guys in my section here with a sign: “Pete is a Tool Box.” And chanting “tool box” every PA. They're quiet now.
