  1. Don't you DH Lindor in that circumstance?
  2. National Weather Service: Today A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 78. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. Tonight Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 67. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
  3. 10-0 Giants after 5. Thanks, fellas.
  4. Lots of interesting developments: 1. Giants opened up a 4-0 lead on Arizona. 2. Dodgers with an early 1-0 lead on San Diego. 3. Baltimore clinches a playoff berth
  5. Alonso's grand slam on the opening weekend series in Washington? The 5-run 9th inning in St. Louis? The 7-run 9th inning in Philadelphia? The no-hitter? Marte's walk-off against the Yankees? deGrom's 6 perfect innings on his return to the mound? The Nimmo catch on Timmy Trumpet night against the Dodgers? The Mark Canha game in Philadelphia? 2022 was a magical season by any measure.
  6. Arlington was also posited as a possible alternate site with the Rangers on the road.
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: That might be the smartest option. Not the favorite option necessarily, but the one with the best chance of getting in two uninterrupted games. Probably the worst for the Mets, as Manaea wouldn't go short rest AND if he pitches Friday instead, he won't be ready for Game 1 of the Wild Card round.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: I guess he's 85 now so he gets something of a pass. (OE: He's 88.) I don't think his age earns him a pass. Sell the team if you aren't going to compete.
  9. The Mets are low-key among the most fan-friendly teams in sports in terms of being able to bring in food and non-alcoholic drinks. If it's your one game a year, or course, get the hot dog and beer and everything else, but as Lunchbucket says, the frequent attendees have lots of other options.
  10. Does this sound familiar? As if something very similar happened the last time there was a late September series in Atlanta with an opportunity to clinch? Well, you'd be right: https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/31700/f1_t31738.shtmlhttps://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/31700/f1_t31738.shtml As for 2024, the forecast seems particularly bad, and that game should certainly be moved up, especially since they set a precedent for doing so in Detroit today.
  11. =Centerfield post_id=171507 time=1727147620 user_id=65] 5-2 Giants. Bottom 5. Come on Giants.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Also that maybe, once again, the ownership change wasn't the magic elixir many expected. Setting aside the straw-man problems here (who expected it? How many is “many?” Who said “magical elixir” or similar?), we're 4 years in, with 2 winning seasons already. Obviously it's way too early know if sustained success will ensue but the results are a lot better than what we were getting under prior ownership. As for attendance: there is a definite lag between on-field success and attendance. 2007 attendance was significantly higher than 2006, 2016 over 2015, 2023 over 2022. With a very down year in 2023, it is not surprising that attendance is down in 2024, although I too am surprised it is down as much. It is notable that the change in W-L record from 2021 to 2022 and 2022 to 2023 were the largest year-over-year changes in team history. And, as noted, the team was not expected to be very competitive this year. Maybe the whiplash of bad-good-bad-good dissuaded people. Tickets aren't cheap, but they didn't go up in any significant amount over last year. I've had a quarter-season plan for the last several years and went back and checked: the price change was a ~1% increase from 2023 to 2024. I don't buy any of the location/accessibility/neighborhood stuff as having any meaningful effect. Stadium's been in the same place for 60 years, mass transit's always been good. It's always going to be a pain to get to from Jersey and easier from LI but that's not new. The 7 train has been under construction and isn't running full express this year but that adds maybe 5-7 minutes each way. I do understand that parking went up to $40 either last year or this year, and that seems excessive, but it's not as if it went from $5 to $40; it was always high. There are probably some longer-term/generational issues, such as the fact that the Mets failed at any point after 1990 to have prolonged success while around the same time our close neighbors to the north have not had a losing season since. In the end, the only factor that really matters is winning. Attendance will go up next year and it will go up more in direct proportion to the number of playoff games the Mets win.
  13. A Citi Field all-timer. A few thoughts offered https://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2024/09/23/once-more-with-feeling/here. This was excellent. As a far less frequent closing day attendee (this might be my first time since 2013 when Piazza was inducted) I think I may be missing out — that said, the discussion of it being a “primetime” moment really resonated. I look forward to hopefully reading again about this game in a definitive FAFIF recap of the greatest games at Citi Field…this decade (ever?).
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: They have the advantage over the Padres and Diamondbacks. The tiebreaker between the Mets and the Braves will be determined this week. The Mets would lose a tiebreaker to the Dodgers for the #4 seed. Granted, this would require Padres sweep of Dodgers, Arizona sweep of Padres, Rockies sweep of Dodgers, and Mets sweeps of Atlanta and Milwaukee, and Philly to win at least one game. If all of the above happened and Philly lost out? The Mets would win the East and the #1 seed tiebreaker over San Diego.
  15. Tuesday: Severino Wednesday: Peterson Thursday: Manaea
  16. =kcmets post_id=171389 time=1727055557 user_id=53] Not particularly happy with this over-use of Edwin. But we'll see....
  17. Baty's played in Syracuse a couple games over the last week. He can be brought back (and might be soon, given that Eddy Alvarez is ineligible for the postseason).
  18. That pretty much clinches Quintana's spot (at least in later rounds; might go with an extra reliever in the wild card rounds).
  19. =Centerfield post_id=171250 time=1726966549 user_id=65] Brewers better suck this bad when we get there next weekend.
  20. =Fman99 post_id=171238 time=1726958496 user_id=86] Zack Wheeler vs Tylor Megill Also, my stomach versus the ESPN broadcast booth
  21. Let's put JD in to pitch. Would be most valuable thing he's done for the team in weeks.
  22. Miami beat Atlanta. Milwaukee finally woke up and tied up Arizona in the 5th.
  23. =MFS62 post_id=171132 time=1726880637 user_id=60] The people who voted Ottavino to be put on the post season roster (another thread) are hopefully re-thinking that decision. Later
  24. Edgy MD wrote: I'm curious whether the team will give him any outfield appearances if and when Lindor returns. I think a second base start or two is more likely. I think any outfield time would only come as a last-man-on-the-bench-in-extras scenario.
