  1. I believe it's a Chevy Tahoe. I saw elsewhere it costs about $80k.

With the known disclaimer that WAR is far from perfect in measuring defense, Harrelson had a pretty decent run from 1969 to 1974, averaging over 2.4 WAR for that 6-season span. Ordonez…does not even come close.
  3. Struck out Aaron Judge on a Franco-to-Bonds style pitch to close out a win against the other NY team last year.
  4. Much better pitcher than he got credit for. Best seasons by a Mets reliever by WAR, last 25 years: Ottavino appears twice (along with Diaz, Wagner, Familia, and Reed): Diaz, 2022: 3.2 Familia, 2015: 2.9 Loup, 2021: 2.8 Reed, 2017: 2.7 Looper, 2004: 2.4 Ottavino, 2022: 2.3 Hernandez, 2005: 2.2 Wagner, 2006: 2.2 Weathers, 2003: 2.2 Lugo, 2019: 2.1 Benitez, 2002: 2.0 Feliciano, 2006: 1.9 Familia, 2016: 1.8 Robertson 2023: 1.8 Rodriguez, 2010: 1.8 Reed, 2017: 1.7 Wagner, 2007: 1.7 Guthrie, 2002: 1.6 Diaz, 2020: 1.4 Stanton, 2004: 1.4 Blevins, 2017: 1.3 Ottavino, 2023: 1.3 Parnell, 2012, 1.3 Raley, 2023: 1.3
  5. Agreed. I recall reading that there has been experimentation in the minors with allowing either 2 or 3 overruled challenges per game. Wouldn't shock me if, when this comes to the MLB level,i it's 2 in regular season games and 3 in the postseason.
  6. Boston media reported that Ottavino had other offers, including a major league contract offer from another team he didn't want to sign with. He had some tough outings in 2024 but was outstanding in 2022 and quite good in 2023. No one is being “fooled” here.
  7. I saw this in person at an AAA game last year. It worked quite well, with quick results shown on the screen for everyone to see. There were a couple overturned calls for each team, and while it was a small sample size, but all the challenges I saw were coming from the batter (and not the catcher or pitcher).
  8. Bold prediction from the Mets Roster Central staff to ticket Mauricio for the major league roster and Madrigal for Binghamton. (I might bet the opposite).
  9. You don’t need it if you’re not in the Mets territory. A “normal” MLB.tv subscription already provides access to all the SNY games (except of course, certain games, if living in the territory of the Mets’ opponent). For those who do live in NY, it’s an interesting alternative to subscribing to cable just for SNY access.
  10. The Hot Corner wrote: Wow, Bregman didn't get the long-term deal he craved, but he got 3 years at an excessive rate and opt outs. The Detroit Free Press reported that the Tigers offered six years, $171.5 million with an opt-out clause after the 2026 season. And Bregman turned them down.
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: Hey Frankie ... how 'bout a bit less yapping, some more hitting Agreed. and maybe calm down a bit on the tattoos and designer eye black! What does that have to do with anything?
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'm guessing one or two of the guys who were traded for Leiter or Piazza. (I don't remember who they were, however!) AJ Burnett was the key prospect for Leiter but he might not have been drafted until 1996, I think. Wilson was the key prospect in the Piazza trade. What about…Kirk Presley? I think he was a first round pick in the early 90s.
  13. What about Robert Person? He was flipped to Toronto for John Olerud after the 1996 season so…he was probably on the 1995 list, right?
  14. They also won 101 games in 2022. Things are trending upwards. That said, of course it's incorrect to say that now. If they reel off the 10 straight winning seasons we all expect…sure. Not yet though.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: I think we have a solid entry here for the worst contract EVER! How quickly we forget the contract of his former teammate Stephen Strasburg: 7 years, $245 million. He made 8 starts (which mostly went quite poorly).
  16. Some fun photos on Instagram today from pitchers and catchers in Port St. Lucie. Players were asked about their favorite player when growing up. Below we review those choices: Good Choices Max Kranick: David Wright Sean Manaea: Johan Santana Huascar Brazoban: Pedro Martinez Reed Garrett: Pedro Martinez Dedinel Nunez: Pedro Martinez Acceptable Paul Blackburn: Barry Bonds Jose Butto: King Felix Grant Hartwig: Miguel Cabrera Christian Scott: Jose Fernandez Luis Torrens: Bonds Retired before you were born, but ok Tyler Zuber: Nolan Ryan Who? AJ Minter: JB Moss Makes sense, but unfortunate Francisco Alvarez: Yadier Molina See me after class, we need to talk Austin Warren: Chipper Jones David Peterson: Jeter
  17. Who else did the Mets send to Cleveland for Alomar? Mike Bacsik?
  18. If Blackburn is even slightly good (save his rookie season of 10 starts, he’s never had an ERA+ above 100)…I’d be pretty shocked. Valentin was at least good once in his career before coming to the Mets. And, in fairness, so was Iglesias. Blackburn’s always been sub-par. I think he’s an ok dark horse as I expect him to be either bad or not on the team.
  19. How about Luke Ritter? Infielder. Hit 26 homers in Syracuse last year. 27 homers in 2023 between Binghamton and Syracuse combined. Maybe Madrigal gets hurt and Ritter gets a shot. I read about him in Will Sammon’s piece today in the Athletic. I’m not sure I knew about this guy before today.
  20. In reverse order: -Can’t a 40-man spot be cleared by sending Christian Scott to the 60-day IL? -If Blackburn opens the season on the IL, as expected, doesn’t that preserve a spot for Danny Young? -Was having only one reserve infielder a real issue last year, and will it be so again? Unlike the JD Martinez and Daniel Vogelbachs of the world, the Mets aren’t using a full time DH who can’t do anything else. And, McNeil can play three infield positions, Vientos two, and Winker can play first. So long as the one can credibly play shortstop, that seems sufficient.
  21. I don’t think Blackburn makes the opening day roster, and even if he was healthy it’s hard to say he would be assured a roster spot. I’d assess Danny Young as having the inside track for that spot, as a second lefty.
  22. =Centerfield post_id=184748 time=1738952876 user_id=65]And also, we kept Sproat. We kept Jett and Acuna and all the other young guys.
  23. What’s missing from that calculation is that injuries/a slightly down year means that the second year of the contract becomes much more likely. Put another way: the Mets wouldn’t have agreed to the contract if they didn’t think it highly likely Pete would hit at least that many homers.
