  1. Let's not forget the repeated failures to sell out playoff games.
  2. From today's Daily News: Victor Diaz was expected to travel to Atlanta as a hedge against Carlos Beltran or Bannister being placed on the disabled list today, but there's no guarantee Diaz will be activated.
  3. Iubitul wrote: Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz I know a big Tiger fan who still defends this trade. Without Alexander, Detroit wouldn't have won the division and made the playoffs. This isn't a Larry Andersen-for-Bagwell type of deal, where Andersen did squat for the Red Sox.
  4. NY Times wrote: Heilman is clearly the best option, but the Mets do not want to tinker with the majors' best relief corps. Whoa, are we really sure about this? I know Heilman wants to start, and I'm sure player motivation counts for something, but I'm not entirely convinced that his history supports this claim. I know Aaron had an excellent winter and spring, but his major league performances seem to highly support that he's at his best as a reliever.
  5. Centerfield wrote: What gives? Is Cincy for real? No, I don't think so. Their starting pitching just isn't that good, even if Arroyo is way outperforming his potential.
  6. The 15 extra spots on the 40-man seem to be pretty crowded these days. My guess is Maine would get the call, unless they think Darren Oliver can make the start. I was surprised when Feliciano got called up and they had to try to sneak Iriki through waivers. Not sure who'd they be willing to risk with the need to add someone else to the 40 man -- my guesses would be 1. Fortunato and 2. Juan Perez (??)
  7. Bannister 3 Oliver 1.25 Sanchez 1 Bradford .25 Woodward 1 Franco 1 Delgado 1 Matsui .5 Reyes .5 Chavez .5
  8. Nice Steve Bieser reference by Howie as Reyes tries to induce the balk.
  9. Intentional walk of Delgado gives Wright the chance for redemption.
  10. No worries, it's Armando pitching. Reyes walks to get that go-ahead run on.
  11. Shit. Barry up as the tying run. Edit: No intentional walk, hmm.

  13. Randy Winn is Damon Buford's cousin.
  14. TheOldMole wrote: How many players do the Giants have wrho are related to other players? Steve Kline...Larry Niekro...Tim Worrell? Any others? Some guy named Barry.
  15. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Gwreck--were you seriously praising a major league manager for remembering to double-switch? Or were you goofing on Willie? I don't know how to read your tone. Definetly the latter.
  16. Piazza hit #400 against San Diego this afternoon.
  17. First time this year that Duaner's allowed the first batter he faces to reach. Edit: Big double-play makes that irrelevant.
  18. Now with the lead, Sanchez throwing in the pen.
  19. Is he the oldest player to steal a base?
  20. Valentin wouldn't have gotten those runs home. SC=not as high as you might think.
  21. Single plates 2. C'mon old man...
  22. 2nd and 3rd now with 1 out. No word on the pinch hitter. Was he announced before the pitching change?
  23. Alright, we'll take it any way we can. Endy on with the go-ahead run, no outs...
