  1. Next Monday is Maine's 25th birthday. 92 pitches with Maine starting his 6th inning.
  2. Elster88 wrote: If the lead runner of a double steal is thrown out, but the back runner takes second, is the back runner credited with a steal? Edit: After checking the rules, I amend my answer to "No." In the opposite situation, if the trail runner is thrown out, the lead runner doesn't get credit for a stolen base.
  3. It wasn't "intentional" but they were definetly pitching around Wright. C'mon Cliff, feel disrespected.

  5. When I post the lineups, I get them straight from the MLB gameday. Lineups for games at Shea are typically available 30-40 minutes prior to gametime. At other parks, they're sometimes available earlier (Seattle has been known to have them up 90+ minutes before gametime). I know that they are usually available to the media earlier. It's been a while since I've been to Shea for batting practice, but IIRC, the lineups are posted when the gates open (2.5 hrs before gametime). I seem to remember at least once having a lineup posted here very early, courtesy someone who had access to a "MLB insider" private blog or something like that (?) which had a clubhouse source, I think.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: More seriously, I curiously inquire: who else throws the knuckler nowadays? i don't understand why there isn't at least one knuckleballer in every system. R.A. Dickey, the Rangers pitcher who gave up the 6 homers to the Tigers early this season -- except he got sent to AAA as a result....leaving Wakefield as the only knuckler currently in the majors. I found this page linked from Steve Sparks' baseball-reference page: http://www.oddball-mall.com/knuckleball/list.htm (list of everyone who's thrown the knuckleball, ever -- including Mets pitchers Dennis Springer, Rich Sauveur, and Todd Zeile)
  7. Maine called up, Victor Diaz back to Norfolk. According to ESPN.
  8. "You hear opposing teams or you hear yourself always saying, `Get into the bullpen,' but I don't think guys want to get into our bullpen too often." -Cliff Floyd, 5/1/06

  10. Big opportunity as we get past Zambrano (HBP) without an out. C'mon Jose.
  11. From the WFAN Pre-game show: Zimmerman will be back for Tuesday's game. Willie officially announces John Maine as Tuesday's starter. No word on the corresponding roster move but logical assumption is that Victor D. is headed back south.

  13. Elster88 wrote: I think this has been touched on but not adequately explained: Why the HELL is there a four day All-Star Break? Just a scheduling quirk, to have an off-day on a Thursday following the break. Schedule doesn't allow having a 4-game series for every team that weekend.
  14. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I'll allow Zambrano three more starts. If he's still awful, he's gotta go. He doesn't have to be released but I'd either make him a mop up guy (although we already have Julio for that) or send him to Norfolk. 3 starts from now, Julio may well not be needed as a mop-up guy anymore. His outings recently have been encouraging -- even Sunday's, with the 5 Ks. I could see Zambrano in the 'pen, but that may mean Maine and Bannister starting until a midseason deal can be made for another starter.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Cool, Elster looking to track a 2003 trade: Victor Diaz, Joselo Diaz, and Kole Strayhorn. The return on Burnitz is in the bank for the Dodgers. The Mets didn't have to eat any money on that one, did they? Could be wrong, but I think the Mets ate money on Burnitz (hence getting Diaz, a better prospect) but ate no money on Alomar.
  16. I gotcha covered. I plan on being at 2 of those games, probably Friday and Sunday (tenatively Pedro), so happy to do the KTE. You can have the Pirates one from July if you want...
  17. Beltran 2 Reyes 1 Chavez 1 Floyd 1
  18. Thanks, fixed it. 7 was the number of strikeouts.
  19. 2005 Review: Wilson had what was his worst offensive season backing up Pudge in Detroit. Hernandez showed promise in both AA and AAA, but only managed 1 hit, in his last at-bat of the season after being a September call-up. 2005 Stats: PlayerTeamLgGABRH2B3BHRRBIBBSOSBCSOBPSLGAVGOPSTCEFPCTCS%HernandezBHPTNEAST6627346891417241458119.360.462.326.821--14.946N/AHernandezNFLKINTL662613479642302246249.354.379.303.733--9.971N/AHernandezNYNL6181100001401.105.056.056.161--1.964N/AWilsonDETAL61152183040319112600.275.283.197.5582663.98934%
  20. January 6, 2005 New York Mets traded Vance Wilson to the Detroit Tigers for Anderson Hernandez. Vance Wilson is entering his second season backing up Pudge in Detroit. After spending 2005 in Triple A, Hernandez made the Mets opening day roster in 2006, only to be disabled after 12 games with a bulging disc in his back. 21. How long do we track trades? The Mets got one year of Ishii, and he's now with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. The Dodgers had one year of Phillips, he was signed by Toronto, played 3 games in the majors this year before being sent to AAA. Does that still need to be tracked?
  22. I'll, uh, take the Vance Wilson (3-run double today)/Anderson Hernandez deal.
  23. Nymr83 wrote: we'll need at least 3 off of Chris Reitsma in the 9th. He of the 6.23 ERA. With Beltran-Delgado-Wright-Floyd coming up.
