  1. Other than "free season and playoff tickets for life for Gwreck," I'd get rid of the DH first. There can be no other choice.
  2. SI Metman wrote: Last year the ALDS teams had the choice, so it should be the NLDS year to choose. I thought so too, but the NLCS starts before the ALCS this year, again, which makes it unlikely that they'd allow Game 5 of the DS and Game 1 of the LCS on consecutive days. I did see somewhere the rumor that they would start only two division series games on the first day but I haven't confirmed that with solid info.
  3. Clearly a typo. That's AL Game 6 and NL 7.
  4. Yes. All of these dates are fixed.
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: We'll have a much clearer view of the division situation on Monday morning, barring rainouts. The Mets and Phillies have no common off-days for the remainder of the season, so a rainout on Friday or Saturday will almost certainly mean a separate-admission doubleheader on Sunday with the first game starting at 1:10 PM. A rainout of the Sunday night game would be made up (if necessary) on Monday, September 29.
  6. Division Series There is no difference in scheduling for the NLDS this year. The top AL team will have the choice of the "A" series (starting October 1) or the "B" series (starting October 2). (Edit: It's now confirmed that the top AL team gets the "choice" of when to start their series, therefore the NL schedules are the same for both sets of games in the division series.) 8. Pelfrey.

  10. Nice Mets-style bullpen collapse by the Phils there.
  11. Zimmerman homer off Durbin in the bottom of the 7th ties it up, 5-5.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: ="Gwreck"]I think Wright gets tomorrow off. I bet he doesn't. Days off Thursday and Monday ... we're in a pennant race here. You know, I forgot about that Thursday off. Still, I wonder about a 2-day rest being good for him.

  14. Phils are likely to start Hamels on Sunday (skipping Kyle Kendrick). Hamels pitched tonight, so he'd be on regular rest. Lots of off days coming up gives the Mets the ability to basically do whatever they want with the rotation for the time being. 1. They could simply go to the 4-man rotation for a while; 2. They could also use the extra off days to get some extra rest for the starters -- either game against the Nationals could be another Niese start -- or a Figueroa/Knight game if they were so inclined; 3. They could do some combination of both. There was talk of completely skipping Pelfrey one turn of the rotation a while back, and that could be done too. at MIL Wed Sep 3 - Perez v. 15. I think Wright gets tomorrow off. He needs it.
  16. AL comeback player of the year -- sorry, Josh Hamilton -- is Cliff Lee of the Indians.

  19. Agreed. The Nationals taking one out of three is all we could have asked for.
  20. 6-3 Nats. Some clown named Marco Estrada walked Pedro Feliz with the bases loaded and then hit Chris Coste with the bases still loaded to force in two runs. Fortunately he got the next batter to end the rally. 6-3, middle of the 6th.

  23. With the Minor league season ending, it's about time to check back and see how the players we gave up for Johan are doing. Obviously Gomez has a month to go. The Twins also just called up Humber for the September roster expansion. 24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yes. If the Mets win the division, the march to the World Series will be a difficult one, going through Milwaukee and, probably, Chicago. I'd downgrade that "probably" to a "maybe," given the Arizona rotation. Would you necessarily favor the Cubs if they had to face Webb and Haren twice each in a five-game series?
  25. Apparently everybody is in Milwaukee and ready except Knight and Al Reyes.
