  4. As a kid, I remember thinking the apple was really neat. As an adult, I am totally indifferent. As a rational person, I of course recognize that what the Mets are doing is best -- they are keeping a home run apple, but using the *same exact* piece of crap that doesn't work right and is 27 years old would be a silly idea, no matter how many people argue until they are blue in the face about it. *Exact Same* Home run apple from Shea : Citi Field :: *Exact Same* seats from Shea : Citi Field. --- I will also note that I was never consciously aware of the skyline at the top of the scoreboard being animated during a home run. Strange. Just a byproduct of how I watch, I guess. Will have to look for it tomorrow.
  5. HahnSolo wrote: I will miss the scoreboard, particularly the OOTS, terribly. SNY did a promo for the new park -- basically Kevin Burkhardt interviewing Jeff Wilpon. Wilpon revealed that there will be a full-time out of town scoreboard showing scores of all games, and will include the lights of how many outs there are and runners on base. Additionally, the main scoreboard will have both team's full lineups, all the time.
  6. I will admit to having left that game early, after Strickland gave up the grand slam to Sheffield. Heard the call while driving on the Cross Island Parkway.
  7. Fun game to attend. Seems that Oliver's problems are usually control oriented. Tonight, he just got hit hard (6 in a row at the end). I give it an "eh" as long as he bounces back next start. Delgado's homers were announced as 450 and 395 feet, respectively. Luis Aguayo is almost making me long for Sandy Alomar. (Certainly Ken Oberkfell, at least). What was up with the call at the end of the 8th inning? Seemed like the ump took forever to call Beltran out on strikes and then the interference call (?) seemed bogus.
  8. No. 12 tonight is Ron. I'm surprised that #14 in oughtabe land wasn't a Hodges representative. (Or is Hodges coming with an even lower number?)
  9. Cut him NOW!!!! Edit: For compliance.
  10. The Brewers and Phillies have a key four game series in Philadelphia starting this Thursday. Even if playing LA is more attractive, I'm still rooting for the Brewers.
  11. Nice Transmonk. I would guess that once the mathematical tragic number gets down to 2 or 1 for the first 5 or so teams eliminated from each league, they've already met their practical demise due to scheduling, etc.
  12. One per person. Multiple entries don't help. Doesn't say one per household, however, so sign up Luncbucket Jr. if you want.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Might as well. Especially since it looks like there might be some weekend home games for the Mets this year. World Series games 3 and 4. And NLCS Game 7, if they're not playing the Cubs.

  16. Pittsburgh, with their loss yesterday. On the clock (tragic number): Baltimore (1) Atlanta (1) Cincinnati (2) Kansas City (2) Oakland (2) San Diego (2)
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think Keith is richer than an astronaut and does games for fun. Ron to me seems more career-minded, if you will, in the broadcast game. Exactly. I think it has been mentioned elsewhere, but Ron is also working as lead (?) analyst for TBS for their Sunday national broadcasts and I assume will be for the division series/LCS this year as well, unless his SNY contract takes precedence.
  18. ]We should get something back from Wright Beltran, too. Only 26.5% of Beltran's ABs this year have come against lefties, but he has hit 41 points higher (and 53 points higher in OBP) as a right-handed batter this year.

  21. Went to the game as well. Extremely satisfying to see the Mets get Hamels. Tons of moronic Philly fans in the upper level. I *was* encouraged that for the most part, the response to them was to simply do the "Let's Go Mets!" chant even louder. Funny story: the seats that I picked up for the game -- front row of the upper deck -- were the same exact two seats that we had for NLCS Game 7 in '06. I now consider the seats sufficently exorcised. Things I'll miss about Shea -- emphasized this game: the upper deck shaking during the big moments of a big game.

  23. KC wrote: Doesn't really explain large sections of the outer-uppers with like no one in them. You'd think the place would be packed, it has basically been kinda packed for a lotta games and this one was huge. Found that very strange, too. Paid attendance was 48 and change, which means those sections just weren't sold. Walk-up sales must've been real poor. Found that a little disheartening. On the other hand, I thought the crowd was *really* loud in the 9th. Not much good to take away from this game. I figure we just get the next tow and be on our way.
  24. Tonight: Met Employees with 25+ years of service: Juan Alicea Tony Carullo Jay Horowitz Bill Ianniciello Roland Johnson Charlie Samuels Tod Tilloston Bobby Yost Trivia time: For how many of these individuals do you know -- off the top of your head -- their position with the team? I can get 5, I think.
  25. AG/DC wrote: Look after Schneider! He looked after you! Interesting philosophical question. Do we adjust Schaefer for luck? Church clearly was getting the love for the 'slam, but Schneider was 2-for-3 (with the same number of homers as Church) while Church was only 1-4.
